When it comes to five year old children there is a big difference in their developmental characteristics compare to when they were three or four years old. They have the need for more independence. Five years old children no longer want to play just by themselves now. They want friends to play with and they like to be able to please their friends and imitate them. The second biological explanations seem to accord with our own observations: Women and men seem too different to us most of the time (Kimmel 20). For example, women are more emotional therefore they seem to love chick flicks because of the meanings and actions of love, meanwhile men are more aggressive so they prefer to watch action movies. During our lifespan we each change neurologically, structurally, and physiologically, and we each develop at our own pace. Our recent lab, Spring Olympics, tracked physical competency between myself and Jake Chastain. The results are evidentiary of our developmental differences. Developmental psychology is the scientific study of how and why human beings change over the span of their lifetime. Developmental psychology’s general focus was children and infants but now it has enlarged and now also focuses on adults. Although it would have been logical for me to choose a biopsychologist or neuroscientist as a specialization considering that I am pursuing college to become physician, I chose the topic of developmental psychology because the world is changing rapidly and it is significantly affecting the way the new generations view the world.

In fact, you mentioned an important statement that juveniles should be addressed different from adults and reasons for your statement. Today, thanks to advances in technology, such as sonograms, and fiber optics ,we have been able to see and study babies inside their mom’s womb.
Jean Piaget, a swiss psychologist from the 1950’s, researched and created a theory for cognitive development during the lifespan. As a theorist, he impacted nursing through his analogies of how the mind develops.The 1950’s theorist developed a theory consisting of three stages: preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Each of Piaget’s stages consisted of different parts of the human lifespan. To add to his research, Piaget also wrote a book to rationalize deferred imitation in a child’s mind. The book was titled Play, Dreams and Imitation in Childhood. Evidence supports Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development with a study done by Elizabeth R. Hinde and Nancy Perry that was performed in Arizona. The study consisted of 50 elementary school history teachers who rationalized Piaget’s theory for school curriculum. The study was conducted to test the child’s understanding of historical time and concepts related to the cognitive development of different aged children.
