Introduction:
The two industries that I have chosen to research is the Film industry is of Indian film industry, Bollywood, and the Film industry Nigeria, Nollywood. Both Film industries are one of the biggest industries in the world, creating thousands of films a year. The two directors to come out of the countries as some of the best directors in the respected countries and the world are Kabor Khan, from the Bollywood industry who is presently one of the most sought after Bollywood directors. And Andrew Dosunmu who is a Nigeria Director and had gained much support in the US after directing various music video for many acclaimed artists. Both industries

The Indian film industry started its journey in 1899 when the first Indian silent film was shot and sent to be processed in the UK. The film was shot by Harishchandra Sakharam Bhatavdekar (also known as Save Dada) who became intrigued by the art in 1896 when the Lumiere brothers sent over short films to be screened at the Watson hotel. It was mostly watched by a British

Madan had made a lot of money as he had assimilated the rights to show films from overseas studios. Madan was also the first to establish an India’s first purpose-built cinema in 1907 called the Elphinstone Picture Palace in Kolkata. Madan film businesses grew to dominate the film industry in the 1920s and 1903s. But the Indian film industry had not only started with just Indian film-makers but also foreign film-makers came to Indian mostly to shoot documentary footage which had an influence in the film industry as film directors from places such as Britain, namely Charles Urban would often give out his equipment to be used by foreign film-makers. But one of the biggest problems when looking at Indian film history was that an estimate of 99% of Indian silent films had been
In chapter two of The Cultures of American Film, the main focus is the establishment of studios. As demand for films rose in the early 1900’s, production companies needed to expand; this lead to the creation of large scale studios.
In cinema’s early days, the film industry was based in New York, the nation’s theatrical center. Most movies were being filmed in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and Florida. However, by the 1920’s, southern California had become the leading film capital due to its cheap land and labor. Films gained their popularity after Vaudeville actors striked in 1901. This left theaters scrambling for acts and films became the main event. Silent films were widely popular in the early 1920’s and were usually accompanied by live piano or organ music. Talking-pictures were first introduced in 1923, but did not become popular until 1927.
In the contemporary context, when one tries to analyze the idea about women from previous decades being an audience and not the crew of a film industry, one wants to question and ask: why were women only an audience or, actors? Maybe there were some culturally held values and beliefs with respect to their contexts? However, with the passage of time, cultural and professional values improved. Technology began to improve and so did the mind-set of professional groups along with the audiences. Film industry has had an impression of providing first entertainment and, second education. Hence those working for the films might have had hurdles in choosing working for films as their career or vocation. At different times in the history, women in different cultural contexts have worked for certain film industries. I want to explore the idea about women and their talent in the film industry. Since I am primarily a viewer of the Bollywood industry and an occasional viewer of the Hollywood cinema, I want to compare the cultural and professional values of those who work for films in different settings. Since the course readings provided information with respect to certain cinema contexts, I wanted to add some ideas providing a comparative analysis of the women talent in diverse film settings.
Silent films first appeared around the 1890s in America. 1 They are films that were without synchronised sound and especially no spoken dialogue. Music was recognised as an important part of film/moving images from the beginning, as it contributed to the atmosphere of the films and allowed the audience to understand and feel the emotions being portrayed. 2 When music was first being combined with moving image pianos, organs and phonographs were the first instruments used to provide the music, and as the popularity of film grew over the years, some of the larger theatres began using orchestras to accompany the film. 3
Hundreds of movies are released every year. Filmmakers try to create the next jaw-dropping movie that audiences will stand in line for hours and pay top dollar to see. The key to success is finding ideas that appeal to a mass audience. Viewers are the lifeline of any production company so making something for everyone is a savvy business move for the film industry. To cover all bases, there are over fourteen different genres of movies. Film making is not a solo effort. It is a collaboration between the actors, directors, producers and other key contributors. This combined effort or mise-en-scene includes all the elements of the film to include actors, backdrops, costumes, props and lighting used to meet the director’s vision
Film has been a prominent topic in society since its conception. One of the most important physical areas of film creation is located in Hollywood, California. Hollywood has produced some of the most recognizable directors and film creators. Walter Elias Disney is one major example of this. He is still extremely well known because of the vast business he created that is still thriving today. Many people have argued that his career fits within either the classical auteur theory or the structuralist auteur theory, but no argument has been as strong as the one that supports Disney’s career as the commercial auteur theory. The fact that Walt Disney’s work was very much affected by elements outside of his films shows that his career fits within the commercial, or consumer, auteur film theory.
The Australian film industry has over the years revolutionized from what was called a silent era, to the sound era and then the new wave. The silent era as the name implies featured film making without the use of sound while the sound era introduced the addition of sound to films. From the years 1906 to 1911, Australia happened to be the most prolific producer of feature films in the world. As at this period in time, Australian producers had easy access to cinema screen because of the irregular supply of foreign films. This notable success however began to experience a gradual decline as the Hollywood
The American film industry needs to step up its ‘game’ if it wants to succeed as an international player. Create new genres, TV series, increase publicity and advertising to gain back its international viewers. The American film industry should search for new and upcoming talented producers who can bring a whole new meaning to the global organisation. It has to reach out to all
The film industry has continuously changed since its inception due to rapid technology advancements. Camera technology has been a key factor that has influenced the growth of filmmaking. The first motion picture in the world was produced in the early 1880s, and the first public screening occurred ten years later. It didn’t take long for the quality of films to improve as new filmmaking equipment emerged. Ever since the first movie was produced, the film industry has been continuously changing in response to emerging filmmaking technology. Introduction of digital photography and digital data storage along with the development of internet significantly influenced the film industry (Barsam, 2015). These technologies contributed
The film industry has always been somewhat of a dichotomy. Grounded firmly in both the worlds of art and business the balance of artistic expression and commercialization has been an issue throughout the history of filmmaking. The distinction of these two differing goals and the fact that neither has truly won out over the other in the span of the industry's existence, demonstrates a lot of information about the nature of capitalism.
Cinema of the United States has played an undeniable role in the transmission and interpretation of many values that we hold today. We perceive real life situations based on what Hollywood has taught us. Some ninety years after the first huge success of American cinema, “The Great Train robbery” was released, we were introduced to a new brand of films. The cult classic “Living in Bondage” was distributed. This low- budget film produced in Onitsha, Nigeria set the scene for what would become an explosion. So impressed were the filmmakers and actors by their work, they coined the term Nollywood- the Nigerian Hollywood. The different environments and practices have resulted in obvious
As we know it, the Entertainment Industry has changed numerous lives in America and the world as a whole. This market has an influential impact on most lives today, by the way of our emotions and perception. We lean to music as our comfort as different artists impact differently; listening to Trey Songs at the end of a relationship and Barry White to set the mood. It is safe to our lives revolve around what goes on in the entertainment industry. The Caribbean has tried on many occasions to produce award winning films,Third World Cop in 1999, Shottas in 2002, Dancehall Queen in 1997, just to name a few. However, those films only left a mark on neighboring countries and a few places in America with Caribbean decent. Attempts were made to produce music and sitcoms which impressed the world but not for a long period; example Dwayne Bravo's "Champion" and to those who remember, "Westwood Park." It is to say that if the Caribbean was to introduce film making, would be a successful business opportunity, one however that will face many callenges.
film industry is the largest of any industries with India making the most number of movies per year than
Film Industry has been expansively affected by the changes in technology. The mechanical and digital innovations give cause to the influence of equipment, distribution and the way in which films are made and consumed. New trends shape directors and filmmakers to expand creatively towards telling stories in motions. The film industry has developed to one of the most important tools of communication, it's cause so powerful affecting the way individuals and societies think, act and behave. Among the new Era approaching film, and seeing celluloid film fade is that of the Digital Era and a camera that saw celluloid films passing hastened.
Recent films like Tauba Tauba, Murder, Julie and Jism have focussed on something not explored before in mainstream cinema - the sexuality of the Indian woman. Though this has given the director and producer ample scope for exploring the anatomy of the woman in a hundred different ways to lure the box office, the one positive spin-off of these films is that they have uncovered the sexual desires of the Indian woman. The woman need not be beautiful though it is mandatory that she has a beautiful body. The woman need not be single either.
