Introduction
Before I acknowledge anything about software, I called every intangible program that I used in my life- ‘Apps’. My thinking is no difference from anyone else. After I attended the lecture for computer software, then I realized there are two types of software that we are using in our daily life. In my opinion, I think that software is created to help solving problems in different sector and make human’s life easier.
What is Software?
Software is a term which defines the various types of programs that used to run and operate the computers or computer hardware. Software is required to be installed as a program in a computer before the instruction given by the computer hardware works. There are many types of software such as application software and system software.
What is Application Software?
Application software does not only allow computer users to have more productive but also assist users done their tasks. (Gary B. Shelly 2011) It is divided into two types of categories which is General purpose applications program and function specified applications program. (James A. O'Brien 2011)
General-purpose application programs
First of all, General purpose applications are the Pc software tools that process information for end users. For examples, Software suites, Web browsers, Groupware and spreadsheets are general purpose applications program. System software is the software used to run and maintain the pc these are essential to the pc and without it the pc would not function
A computers operating system (OS) is the core of the computer and is more than just software. The OS controls the computer’s memory and processes as well as its hardware and software. It is the brain of the computer. Software applications on the other hand perform a certain task. Ex. Google Chrome provides internet and Adobe allows PDF files to be read (among other things). The OS is what makes all of these applications work successfully and accomplish whatever the application is designed to accomplish.
The purpose of a software developer is to develop software and computer programs. A majority of the things we use on computer were made possible because of software developers. They are responsible for applications that allow one to do specific task on computers. They are also attributed in creating programs that are vital for your computer. As technology becomes more prevalent in our society. The need for software developers has increased greatly. Software development is the freedom of innovation and creativity within the realm of computers. As software slowly becomes more vital in today’s society as we progress into the future.
Application software is essential to make workers more efficient as well as maintain company information. However, determining the best software to use is often difficult. Your course readings provide an IT Performance Model to determine how software contributes to the company. What are the individual areas in this model and how would they be used to determine the type of software needed for an organization? I agree with you general purpose application program packages provide basic software programs that gives both for the common person and business end user to powerful office tools. Along with powerful communication tools much like email, internet and social media, which has high value in today's society and workplace.
