Islam and Christianity have so much similarities than people tend to perceive. The main differences between Islam and Christianity include their place of worship, view of Jesus, Holy scriptures, certain practices and even the use of images and statues. People who practice Islam are known as Muslims and people who practice Christianity are called Christians.

On the surface, Islam and Christianity appear to have very little in common, however, as you get deeper into areas such as rituals, beliefs, ethics, founders, and sacred objects, the two show strong mutual similarities, particularly in the fundamental areas, while being totally different. In this essay I will compare and contrast many of the facets that make up the worlds largest and most recognized religions, Christianity and Islam.

The areas of disagreement between Islam and Christianity are quite clear. Although Islam accepts the holiness of Jesus, it denies his Godliness. According to the teaching of Islam, Jesus is not God, nor is he united with God. On the other hand, Christians view Jesus as a God and live their lives in accordance of him. Moreover, Islam teaches that Jesus is not the Son of God. God does not have any children because He is above that. Conversely, Christians know Jesus as the son of God, a Savior and Lord who died on the cross to take away all of our sins. Islam by contrast, denies the crucifixion of Jesus. Muslims believe that Jesus did not die on the cross; he only made people think he was and God saved him.

The Christian worldview is the most radical and counter-culture belief in the world. Christianity adopted this position of radicalness by its main teach Jesus Christ. One of the major examples of this is when it comes to how Christianity views people who have other beliefs. In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus commands his followers and disciples (like Matthew) to love their enemies instead of hating them. This is apparent when he says “I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44. NIV). Jesus gives this commandment during the famous Sermon on the Mount. Which arguably had the largest crowd of any of His teaching so it is clear that this command is meant to be universal to all. Instead of seeking revenge on the people who do others wrong, Christians are supposed to love them. Jesus says this because all of humanity falls short of the glory of God. No matter how far gone a person may seem God stills loves them and they are equally as needing of a relationship with God as any other. This extreme forgiveness in love is hard to comprehend when it comes to other worldviews especially when it comes to the radical part of Islam and their Shia law. David Hansen in his description of radical Islam says that “To exert their authority, groups of radicalized or “Talibanized” Muslims carry out acts of unbridled violence against the general population, including gruesome murders, decapitations, lashings, and the amputation of limbs.” (Hansen, 2014, pg. 153). The word followers is referred to the people who believe in the certain religion, it does not mean that these people are huge followers, however. There are many facts about the Christianity and the Islamic religion, but each one has differences and similarities that are worth mentioning.

Initially the two religions may seem to have nothing in common, but when you go beyond the surface and examine the rituals, beliefs, and founders, as well as the spread of both religions, they share many similarities. In many ways, there is irony in tension between Christianity and Islam, given the extremely similar history and nature of their religions. It is perhaps lost on many people who subscribe to these religions that there is no more truth to one than the other. But when observed from an objective viewpoint it is undeniable that both Christianity and Islam are remarkably similar in origin and ideology. In order to see and understand their similarities, it is important to look back to the birth and rise of both religions.

The differences and similarities appear in many aspects of the religions. As such, it is easier to discuss them intensively by restricting the discussion to selected aspects. The life after death and belief in the Supreme Being by the believers of Christianity and Islam religions has many differences and similarities.

Christianity and Islam are wide spread religions which impact the lives of believers spiritually. Both religions have had substantial impact on the course of history and have formed the basis of many countries laws and are highly recognized by governments. Though Christianity is more widely known, they both pose the same challenges to each other. Considering the similarities and differences of Christianity and Islam, it can be said they are both very different.

Many religions have impacted the thoughts and beliefs of millions around the world. Two of these religions are Islam and Christianity, both of which are similar, yet, incredibly different. Christianity, which had come long before Islam, is known to be the root of Islam which makes sense since the two religions share much in common. They are both Abrahamic and monotheistic religions which means they share the belief in only one true existing God and are rooted to have many similarities. Their differences, however, are what make them two distinctive religions, which is why they are recognized and classified for being so.
