Digital photography, though pretty much the industry standard at this point, is still a young technology. Many of the greatest advances in digital happened within the last ten years, and if you're a later adopter it's nothing to be ashamed of - there are millions of people out there that have never touched a digital camera.
And the best part? Learning to take digital pictures is a lot easier than you may think!
The Main Tool- A Digital Camera
When digital cameras first came out they were far outside most people's price range, but now they are affordable for almost everyone. Now you can get a good point and shoot camera for less than $200 or for more features you can

Some of these tools are better than others but if you have a Mac you can use iPhoto. And in terms of uploading, as long as your computer can see your camera or the card reader, you can upload the files however you choose.
As for editing software, there is a wide variety of options out there for every price range imaginable. Paint.net is a great free image editing software that offers features like layer editing and other advanced features that other higher end software offers. Another good free photo editor is The Gimp or you can go the professional route and buy Adobe Photoshop. But remember with Photoshop you're buying a professional tool with a lot of features you are probably not going to need right away.
The Final Product
Finally, once you've uploaded and edited your images, you'll probably want to share them with your friends and family. There are many different ways to share photos, but the most popular are using sites like Facebook or Flickr. Sharing your photos online allows your friends and family to see how you're doing without you taking the time and effort to print out and mail them
One of the biggest aspects of my life is photography. Ever since I can remember, picking up any camera within reach was almost a natural reflex. Capturing moments, a split second in time, has always fascinated me, especially the beauty in that nobody is quite the same. Investing in a camera of my own, as well as all the incredibly expensive equipment to go along with it has arguably been one of the best decisions of my life- allowing me to freeze the time I want in the way I want.
The first device that I reviewed and evaluated was on the point – and – shoot camera. This camera that does not have any additional settings or options other than manual. Basically, all you do is to aim and press the button to take the photo while the camera does the rest of the work for you. The reason why this camera does a majority of your works because it has an autofocus. It has the ability to focus on anything that is automatic. This camera is considered as a still camera, which means that it's used for taking photographs. Not only is this camera digital, but it's also a film camera as well. You can record or make videos while you use it. I have never used a camera before because I've always taken pictures with my iPhone rather than taking them with an actual camera. It took me a little while to adjust myself to using this
According to KPCB’s internet trends report, in 2014 nearly 1.8 billion digital images were uploaded online everyday. That’s not even including the number of photos that were taken and not uploaded. Taking photos has been simplified to opening an app on ones cell phone and pressing one button. Now a days everyone can take photos. Although many view photography as an every day occurrence, photography can be used as a powerful tool for social justice, documenting history, citizen journalism, and marketing.
Between the use of film or digital photography, film is the more effective method when looking for originality and creativity. With the adoption of digital photography, the younger generations, as well as the older and more current photographers are becoming lazy. These groups must recognize that the art of the photograph is being jeopardized by the digital camera and the camera phone. For the current photographers as well as amateur photographers, this essay will serve as testimony to film as well as other chemical methods, and how they shouldn’t be ignored, but preferred. The digital era has had a massive impact on the art world and all of its mediums, but for photography this impact has resulted in the removal of the human from the photograph making process. This intimate process is what makes it an art form. All of films imperfections and unique qualities, as well as its monetary value and scarcity are just a few factors that have made it so precious. To replace this entire process with a microchip is offensive and undermines the importance of the process that is needed to make a photograph. Anyone can take a picture but you must make a photograph, and this skill is being simplified to a digital camera. The impact of the digital era on photography has hindered the process of making a photograph; painting the art form obsolete in today’s society.
One reason the camera was the greatest invention was because it helps people keep a hold and learn from the past. When people take photos, they can retain them from generation to generation making sure the memories
(Bellis, 2009) Nevertheless, the main selling point of digital cameras was the convenient way that they could be stored. Every exposure is almost instantly saved to a removable disk drive, which remarkably expired the use of darkroom processing. It was convenient, less time was needed to produce an image, making it particularly appealing to journalism. The photograph has since then become an instant process. Combined with the invention of the Internet, and booming industry of personal computers, the newer technology would expire its predecessor. There are billions of photographs on the Internet, comprising the largest most diverse photo collection ever assembled. We have access to imagery from all over the world, using key words and hash tags to catalogue imagery and content; we can see what is happening without being there. The introduction of digital photography has enabled photographers to record terabits of imagery which can be stored in minute places, meaning the coverage that we have of the modern world is greater than ever. Unlike the formats that Henri Cartier-Bresson used, where each roll of film, or negative slide needed storing in a large physical place, under controlled conditions, an archive of objects. Automation came with digital photography, its combination of digital components allowed the camera to automatically detect light qualities, and
Many famous photographers use editing software, most people use Photoshop; editing software help us make our photographs better, we can crop, brighten, auto-fix, add filters and so many other things. You can focus, and blur. Things you might not consider while taking the photograph.
For the student choice activity, I chose a lynda.com video titled “Photography: First Steps”. In this course, Jim Heid goes into detail regarding various photography subjects; such as: different cameras, lighting specifics, editing photographs, etc. While I am fairly efficient in my photography skills, I have not learned the camera basics. That is to say, I rarely use a professional camera for my pictures; instead, I typically capture photographs on my phone. After finishing this course, I have learned quite a few beneficial tips in regards to photography. For instance, I have become quite knowledgable in reference to exposure. Since I take pictures on my phone, I have not been too concerned about finding the correct exposure. On the contrary,
From my first picture on my aunt’s Canon, I knew I loved photography. After the initial click, I couldn’t get enough. That’s when I decided I wanted a camera of my own. It has impacted my life in many ways, such as: learning responsibility, meeting new people, and realizing my future occupation.
And without the proper camrea and lens a photographer could waste a lot of time, money and engery. But that doesn’t nessceryly mean that a photographer have to go out and buy an overly priced $3000 camera setup. Like Malcolm a photographer can go and aquire a $200 camera with a $150 lens, and this would be perfect to start off.afterall The camera is just a tool, and like any other tool it is the handler that is responibli for the work that is
But it doesn’t have to be this complicating. These tips will make your photo experience more fun as well as relaxing as well as assuring that you and your camera make a safe return.
Finally, use editing photos software. One of the most popular editing photos software today is Photoshop. With Photoshop, you can make your photos much more beautiful as by
In 1888, George Eastman made the first light and portable camera under the company name Kodak (Graham 28). These cameras gave people the ability to take a photo almost anywhere. The cameras had to be sent back to the factory so the photographs could be printed. Twenty years after Kodak’s first camera, they produced an improved camera, called “Brownie”. The Brownie was simple to use, making the art of photography boom. Flash cameras did not appear until the 1930s, letting people take pictures in areas with dim or little lighting. In 1947, Edwin Land invented the instant camera. Land got the idea after his daughter asked to see her picture after he took her photo. The next step in improving the camera was by making it digital, which was done in 1975 by a Kodak employee. As the camera gets smaller and simpler to use, the quality of the photographs it produces gets better.
-The change occurred from the introduction digital photography and over the reign of the film based photography, in other words the switch from chemical based image capturing towards data storage represent perfectly the disruption effect an innovation can have within an industry and its players. The introduction of cameras using digital imaging started to be sold in the last decade of 19th century. With this new technology, the products and their composition changed; the main hardware which is the camera but also the consumables. When cameras used to rely on a roll film before, they now are composed of a memory card. This technological switch allows the cameras to be of smaller size, of easier use and manipulation and basically in overall, more user-friendly. However, when those new products were initially developed and introduced to the market, the quality of the pictures provided by the digital cameras did not match the ones using the old traditional technology. Indeed, the chemical films still had a quality advantage, and as a new technology is created, it requires some time to be refined and affordable to best satisfy consumers. It is said that time will enable the innovative company as well as competition to adapt the product and compete over price which is in the interest of the customer (ref). This explains why it had been anticipated that this disruptive innovation would take one or two decades before responding to market expectations. The
Until recently, at least, it was possible to define photography as a process involving optics, light sensitive material and the chemical processing of this material to produce prints or slides. Today though, that definition is subject to change. Technological innovations…are shifting photography from its original chemical basis towards electronics… It is not overstating it to say that the advent of this new technology is changing the very nature of photography, as we have known it. (Bode and Wombell 1991)
