Single sex education, which is also known as single gender school is an old approach that’s is gaining new momentum. Single sex education consists of separating males and females into different classrooms or in separate buildings or schools. Advocates of single-sex education believe that there are persistent in how boys and girls learn and behave in educational settings such difference merit educating them separately. Many people thought that the shyness in a person is a good thing. Yes, it is good thing, but not in every situation. Most shy people are modest. They are the last ones to let the world know how great they are. When you are not talkative and shy when around other people it's hard to make friends and be sociable. A students who is full of shyness, will lose some advantages and benefits because shyness is like a barrier for people who wants to acquire knowledge. For example, student who is afraid to ask a teacher about something that they do not understand due to the shyness in them will actually lose their benefits to gain knowledge from a teacher. In a single sex school, they will have a confidence in them and the shyness in them will decrease since they are in the single sex school that give more confidence surrounded with the same gender. Somehow, it will be easier for a student to work together for some project because there will be no boundaries between them.
In conclusion, there is actually more than one benefits and advantages in a single sex education school which most of the people do not know about. There are strong claims for and against single-gender education around the globe. Despite extensive research in developing effective teaching practices for boys and girls separately, there are fundamental similarities between meeting the educational needs of girls and boys. There are more commonalities between the two than there are dissimilarities. Boys and girls seem to elicit different kinds of teaching they need due to the constraints that social norms put on each gender. For countries with European roots in their culture, this is also true. Although certain sex-linked characteristics are biologically inherent, how one learns is not dependent on their gender. Both girls and boys are relational learners, educe the kinds of teaching they need and find greater meaning in lessons they find interesting. It is not what sex individuals are born as that dictates what kinds of teaching methods they require, but rather it is how they are designed by their environments that shape their needs. This is particularly true for girls; and even more so for girls of color.
Just as there are arguments against single-sex schooling, there are also arguments for the use of these schools. One person who supports these schools is Hillary Clinton; an article by Nancy Autin states that “In 2001, in pursuit of gender equity, an amendment bill coauthored by Hillary Clinton allowed provisions for public schools and districts to offer the choice of single-sex schools or classrooms to its students” (1). This amendment was adamant on providing equal opportunities for boys and girls in these single-sex schools, while also using the results as research towards furthering the theory that boys and girls learn differently. In modern society, most people believe coeducational school is the real school, and only this type of school will give students better future, but another think single-sex school will provide higher education that coeducational school.
