Imagining Argentina is a novel written by Lawrence Thornton, which is set in the era of the late 1970s of Argentina, during the dirty war. The dirty war came into effect when a military junta had taken power by force, shortly after the former president was removed. The main cause of the dirty war was to suppress the people of Argentina who are on the side of left wing politically. Anyone suspected or even related to the side of left-wing would have a green falcon visit their home or wherever they are, and will be kidnapped and tortured, becoming known to the people as the “disappeared”. Although thousands of Argentinians have disappeared through the years of the dirty war, their identity has not disappeared, through the power a name holds. Carlos Rueda, the protagonist, believes names to be much more than just a name. A name holds a person's uniqueness; their personality; their identity; and their story. Carlos is gifted with an imagination, which can predict the fate of the “disappeared” through the power these names hold. Although identity is a key theme, the overall message revolves around imagination. Throughout Imagining Argentina the use of imagination is always present. Thornton provides a powerful message which is imagination being our strongest tool; our reality. Imagination helps us through times of desperation and despair. Religion is cordially express with all origins of Hispanics groups. The vast majority of the Hispanic communities acknowledge religion in their every day activity. In the world, 90 percent of the Spanish-speaking world is Roman Catholic. When evaluating the Hispanic population in the United States it is, reveal that 70 percent of Hispanics are protestant (Census, 2002). There are many different types of Latinos and/or Hispanics in the United States today. In 2003, 37.4 million Latinos reside in the U.S., outnumbering 34.7 million African Americans (Ramirez and de la Cruz 2003 Racial and Ethnic Groups Chapter 9). Each of these types has similar cultures and customs, but is uniquely different. No one person can be so sure of which of these ethnicities one belongs to, unless you already know the person.

Argentinian culture is a mixture of many other cultures and it has been largely influenced by Spanish colonialism and immigrants from all around the world and mostly from Europe. Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina. The city is also known as the cultural capital and it represents political, economic and cultural heart of the country. Argentinian culture is spreaded in lots of areas from dance to language and it has very unique sides which makes the culture extremely interesting.

The misconception among American’s is that all Hispanics are alike. They have the same cultural backgrounds and speak the same language. This could not be further from the truth. In actuality there is great diversity among different Latin ethnic groups. Hispanic Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and Columbians all have different cultural and historic back grounds that identify them as separate ethnic groups.

With these new religions developing the social changes in Latin America does provide a much broader outlook on their beliefs. There are various groups or community gatherings within the particular religion. Each religion unites and brings together their faith and social aspects within their own community.

Hispanic students who were brought at an early age through immigrant parents wanting to provide a better, safer environment for their kid may usually end up stuck and excluded. There are programs like Hispanic Unity that help their Hispanic community by providing a place for daycare, volunteer programs to teach kids, teenager and adults about important subjects necessary to succeed in the U.S. The classes range from studying for the citizenship test, or learning English, to filing taxes. They also provide help for family in need of clothes, shelter, food, materials. I would like to similarity build a team that sets a goal to inform and support their fellow community members. What does it mean to be an American? We are all different in this world, diversity includes everyone. Diversity refers to all of the ways in which people are different. The diversity of the United States society is increasing dramatically, due to high rates of immigration. America is built of people coming together from different races, nationalities, religions and sexes. This includes individual, group, and traditional differences. Diversity is a major role on impacting the the United States character, history, and tradition. Diversity made america what it is today. Can our society deal successfully with these changes?

Being Hispanic to me means being different, strong, hard-working, and colorful. I go to school in a little village called Baltimore, with a whopping population of just under 3,000 people. Living in such a small village has its ups and downs, for instance, you get to know everyone, but you also really get to know everyone. One of the downsides of living in this area is the lack of diversity. In my entire high school, there is a total of five Hispanic students including myself. Growing up I never saw myself as different to my classmates, we were all just in school to learn about education, life, and each other. The predominant religion throughout history in Latin America has been Catholicism. From big cities to small villages, churches, basilicas, and cathedrals are found. They bring to America the values of faith in God, love of family, hard work, and self-reliance; the values that made us a great nation to begin with (Ortiz)". One of our great president, George W. Bush, said these enhancing words and it now concerns me in this day of time. That now the world wants to imprison the Hispanic culture all for varies stereotypes. With President Trump theory of the wall this will cause many more issues not only with Hispanic immigrates but within America itself. Without the construction of the wall, America wouldn’t be wasting money, it will keep generating diversity and wall wouldn’t go against our founding father's rules and regulations.

I am currently at a placement site, where there is not much diversity when it comes to race. Many of my students consider themselves white or non hispanic with the exception of seven students. Out of those seven, two identify as African American, three identify as hispanic and the other two identify with two or more races. Besides race, I have diversity amongst gender, socioeconomic status, learning styles, accommodations, and modifications. My classes are comprised of more females than males who come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of the students come from well off families with occupations such as pastors, educators, military personnel, business owners, and doctors while others come from farmers, grocery store workers, restaurant employees and construction workers. The tension within the society was also tremendously started to open due to the Peronists' efforts to redefine the culture. As we all know, most of the people in Argentina are Catholic. The Catholic Church, an early ally in 1946, and began to distance itself from the regime. They felt that their own culture is being infringed. The oppositions, in this case, the elite – upper and middle classes - also intensified as they saw their vision of the country challenged. One could say that this conflicted between Peron and the Catholic Church was one of the events that led to his downfall. Peron’s had supported religious education was for his political expediency, in response, the Church considered forming its own political party to oppose Peronism.
