I am very happy witht the progress that Vicky has made in her job so far. She has been with the Bureau about 8 months and she has become invaluable to us. I worked for a corporation that is very diverse and they believe in giving back to the employees and the community in Johns Creek, Georgia. This corporation has companies all over the world that believes in giving back to the community and making sure the employees are happy in their workplace. The company has many teams and group that support the organization. The people seemed eager to be a part of the team because they felt they were giving something back to the community. Everyone wanted to feel like they were doing something good and they enjoyed themselves doing it.
Diversity is an essential aspect when it comes to productivity in a workplace. Having multiple types of people with an assortment of different backgrounds can be very rewarding when coming up with ideas and reasoning business plans. In order to be successful you must be able to look at things from many different perspectives and understand how each decision effects different individuals. Having an assorted group of people on a team can provide inside advice from many different socioeconomic, cultural, and racial perceptions of how things are and how they think they should be. Not only will this make your business more successful, it will also open your mind to new traditions and cultures that you have never been exposed to. When the word diversity is mentioned, what comes to mind is the ‘obvious’ differences between people, such as race, culture, gender. The true and broader viewpoint would be - "diversity" is used broadly to refer to many demographic variables, including, but not limited to, race, religion, color, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, education, geographic origin, and skill characteristics. America's diversity has given this country its unique strength, resilience and richness. This is stated on a page of the U.S Department of the Interior. America has acknowledged that its diversity has much contributed to its relentless success.
Growing up as a child, I was always fearful of what other thought and considered of me. This fear brought forth self-esteem difficulties throughout my school as well as I entered college. Unfortunately, my fears restricted me from forming friendships, and even to the point of preventing me from developing as an employee. This fear that crippled me from within was the main source of what caused me to holdback in life rather than exposing to the world the true individual I actually was.

It is a known fact that in order for companies to flourish, excellent leadership practices and employees go hand-in-hand. What most companies have failed to acknowledge is how diversity within the workplace, especially in management and executive leadership, does not have a very strong presence. Numerous executives have embraced the fact that their hiring practices are inconsistent with their new motto (we do not discriminate…), but fail to realize that it is more of an internal issue than it is external. The government has tried to regulate some of the practices of hiring and firing applicants. The Americans with Disabilities Act includes protection from discrimination based on a disability as well as requirements for employers and those offering other public facilities regarding access and accommodations for disabled employees, vendors, and patrons (Canas and Sondak, pg. 33). The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (est. 1965) states that is it is an enforcing federal law that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex [including pregnancy], national origin, age [40 or older],disability or genetic information (Canas and Sondak, pg. 187). Though these laws to the have been implemented for the development of a company and provides an equal opportunity for many applicants, they fail to provide the structure to educate senior executives in these specific challenges being faced today.
