When I first read that we are doing morning pages I didn’t know what to think. I honestly didn’t think I had the time nor anything to write about. My grades are important to me though so I knew I needed to get them done every morning. When I picked up the pen and started writing I had a hard time stopping. The last six weeks morning pages has had a huge effect on me. Not only I have I noticed I feel better, I have noticed my grammar has improved immensely. Morning pages has helped my writing and my life. When I first began writing them I honestly didn’t think it would help much but I was wrong. For the first few weeks I would usually write later in the day. With work and school, I am very busy. Once I started waking up earlier and doing it in the morning I felt even better. One of the things I would change is I would have woken up earlier every morning to do it, so I would feel refreshed for the rest of the day like I do now. …show more content…
Not only has it given me discipline it has also made me more focused. I wake up with the motivation to do morning pages and after that I go to work focused. If it wasn’t for morning pages who knows if I would have learned those skills. Morning pages has really helped my grammar and writing. Before this English class I hadn’t wrote in years. My grammar and writing skills were kind of rusty. Morning pages has helped my spelling and grammar a lot. My good grade in this class has a lot to do with morning pages and I am very
The realization growing up through school that not all of what I had been told were mandatory in writing, but in fact flexible changed my perspective in my approach on writing. While the task of writing itself was still distasteful, the approach to it was less so. My writing process has changed through the years I would typically start off with an outline on the first day and begin to write as soon as the outline was completed. While the method I had used in the past was probably the better way to do it; the current process I use has made writing a paper for school more bearable. Another major factor on the way I approach writing was my introduction into creative writing a process by which to quickly and easily form ideas and cohesion. Though the genre in which I normally write in is primarily fiction the exploration different types of fiction gives me the perspective of writing with a new approach for the new challenge. Creative writing has also changed the way I thought about my original distaste for writing, into a passion, though academic writing still is not my favorite.
Writing has always been one of those things that I have had to work at to get words on paper that is not the case anymore. For some reason just letting myself free write for a couple weeks has suddenly made it much easier for me to write, and write significantly
Over the past four months, I have made great strides as a writer. The area where I have seen the most growth is in my use of the writing process. Prior to my enrollment in this course, I would sit down and write all my papers in one sitting. This class has taught me how to lay out a plan for my papers. I have learned how to effectively brainstorm/research, draft, and revise my writings before I complete them. Also I have learned to not just stop there, instead I am now going back and reflecting on my work after I complete it. This allows me to identify where I prospered and also where my downfalls may have been. With this information, I am able to apply this to future writings of mine; lessons that will stay with me forever.
Over the course of this semester, my confidence in writing has improved greatly. In high school, I didn’t really know how to write effectively. I wasn’t really sure what was considered to be “good writing” until I took AP* English. However, even while I was taking this “Advanced Placement” class, I was still trying to figure out how to really create “good writing”. I feel as if this had something to do with the fact that I never really had to work with the rules of grammar intensively. After taking this course, however, I now have a much better understanding of how to correctly use proper grammar. I also improved on using transitional phrases in my writing. I have implemented my understanding of proper grammar and transitional phrases in both my writing inside and outside of this class as a result.
Before I begin writing a paper, I usually try to begin writing my first draft at least four days before the required deadline. Once I begin, I reread the assignment as many times as necessary for me to fully understand the task as hand. After I am comfortable with what is required, I begin brainstorming any ideas that come to mind about the topic on the paper. After I feel
I have had many successes and difficulties in my timed writings. In the beginning of the year, in 10 minutes I could write about two paragraphs and now in 10 minutes I can write about two whole pages in my notebook. I do need to improve on being more organized in my timed writings and I need to practice getting a lot done in a short amount of time. When I do my timed writings I just stress
Most of the times, I started my writing on Saturday, or Friday if I was lucky. Something that I noticed was how I always ended up writing for a longer time than I was supposed to. On the first week of writing (August 15), I ended up writing for almost two extra hours! I always tried to remind myself about weekly writing, but I recall a time when I totally forgot about it. Thankfully this was the week when you were not checking the
Throughout this semester in English 101, I have made a significant improvement on multiple things, including how to be an exceptional writer and thinker. English has always been one of my most favored subjects to study because to me it instructs students how to be intelligent, how to become a more creative and critical thinker, and be able to develop ethical values and imagination. You can express yourself more efficiently in English than you can in any other subject. This class has truly made me a more confident writer and helped me express myself in different ways through the different types of papers I wrote. By writing different types of papers I have improved multiple areas of my writing. I have grown as a student in diverse areas such
I go to the gym five times a week and it has helped me to become more organized and be more discipline, going to the gym helped me to know how to organize my
I cultured the idea of discipline as a result of my high school years being drained in work, soccer, and the gym. I took strenuous courses in high school which made it difficult to balance all of my activities, especially my junior year. When the school day ended, my long shift started at Chipotle. At Chipotle, I was driven to work as a team or else I would have been fired. Responsibility at 16, was a mandatory trait I acquired because if I messed up, it was my fault, I had to clean up my mess. The most dreadful days were the late nights; I did not get off until 12 a.m. However, money was beneficial for my family and I. Sleep deprivation was another battle I fought. No matter how late it was, I made it to the gym after work. I learned stress
When am I most successful at writing? The perfect place to write for me is in my living room because it is more tranquil. Not only is it peaceful, it also gives me enough room to operate. An additional purpose for writing in my living room is because of the lighting. My light must be dim because it gives me a soothing mood, which helps me think. Another important aspect of writing a swell essay is the time of day I start writing. My preference for writing is in the morning because I seem to have more energy to complete tasks. Writing in the evening makes me tired and accompanied with writers block. Therefore, my best writing is acquired earlier in the day. The most essential way for me to compose a great essay is to write it on paper. This
Overall I think that my most of my writing habits have improved and for the ones that have not I know what they are and what I need to do to improve them. My strengths that I already had as
Perfect paragraphs taught me a vast amount as well, as I was now forced to take some of my roughest writing, and make it as perfect as I can
One of my weaker points as a writer is my time management. Managing time throughout the writing process is critical and necessary for a well-written paper. There are times where I have rushed a draft of a paper while skipping fundamental steps of the writing process. This is very clear when I go back and read over my first draft. Lack of time management has sometimes led me to make very noticeable and fixable errors all throughout papers. Most of this is due to a mix of procrastination outside of writing and being busy. Time management is an important skill to work on as there are many benefits that come from spending more time in the writing process. It would help not to rush when writing as I would be able to produce fewer mistakes and better, better thought out ideas.
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had.
