Cats have been around for a long time, they have been worshipped, praised, and cared for like family. Originally, it didn’t start that way since unlike dogs they have not been domesticated yet nor were they ever domesticated since ancient times. It all started as a mutual friendship or a symbiosis relationship where both benefit from it. Depending where once origin lies it can be an alternative where cats were treated or depicted in legends and stories. In the end, it can be ambiguous that cats never were ruled by humans but more that cats ruled over humans, and they still do so today.
In the beginning of human civilization, where people began to settle down and begin agriculture as population grew, and such as the crops grew so did the problems. Diseases and rodents were becoming more common and capable of spreading in fatal rates because of the rapidly densing population. Cats approached civilizations, being lured by the gain they could have from rodents that thrived in the population, being predicted that cats could have saved humanity to some extent and prevented epidemics. Cats remained with the humans just for their own personal need and people never complained about their appearance since cats were regarded as pest control. This let crops from being eaten or being contaminated by rodents.

The generosity of the people lead the cats to slowly pacify with humans, the egyptian let them live with their families and were regarded highly enough that accidental or intended death of a cat would cause the person who killed it to be executed. The cats being mummified in death was also very common in ancient egypt as
Cats entered the New World on the Mayflower. A new breed called the American Shorthair was created. This tame cat would have been distinguishable from the wild cats by their color patterns, hair length, and size. The tame cat could help hunt for birds and rodents because they are hardy, tough, and athletic. It is also likely that the tame cat bred with the wild cats, so new breeds that had the characteristics of the wild ones entered the domestic stock. Cats were not always liked though. There were many superstitions about cats, which made people afraid of them. The cat became known as an indispensable pet for all the genuine witches. The black cat also became known as one of the symbols of Satan. These superstitions may have started because nightly, silent expeditions of feral cats, or their weird cries and shining eyes in the dark. So, cats have not always been accepted as a domestic pet.
I, Nicole Shantel Geiger, believe I’m a strong candidate for the CAT Scholarship. I was born four months early at one pound and one and a half ounces and have since then been known as a miracle baby. I’ve always been known as a fighter and described as strong due to the medical triumphs I faced from open heart surgery to almost dying at birth.
"All the things I am about to tell you are shameless lies." So begins the Books of Bokonon. Bokononism is an original religion that is introduced in this book, Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. The book shows the importance of religion, even if that religion is "shameless lies". It also displays how people convince themselves that things are better then they really are. I read this book because of a promise I made to my father. I'm glad I made that promise; I just read a delightfully funny and deep tale about the end of the world.
The cats versus dogs debate is probably as old as the existence of early canines and ancient felines. Dog owners have long argued that dogs are better pets, but me, as a cat owner, beg to differ, and here’s why.
Edgar Allen Poe’s short story The Black Cat immerses the reader into the mind of a murdering alcoholic. Poe himself suffered from alcoholism and often showed erratic behavior with violent outburst. Poe is famous for his American Gothic horror tales such as the Tell-Tale Heart and the Fall of the House of Usher. “The Black Cat is Poe’s second psychological study of domestic violence and guilt. He added a new element to aid in evoking the dark side of the narrator, and that is the supernatural world.” (Womack). Poe uses many of the American Gothic characteristics such as emotional intensity, superstition, extremes in violence, the focus on a certain object and foreshadowing lead the reader through a series of events that are horrifying
Some reasons being that they serve as a social support during difficult times, such as the loss of a loved one. Cats have been shown to help people get over their loss more quickly and relieve physical symptoms of pain, such as crying.
The first thing temple Grandin explains is that cats domesticated themselves because early human civilizations had lots of mice for the cats to eat and pray on. Then she explains that when cats were domesticated there brains got smaller and they purr even when they are adults also meow. The next big point that the author explains that cats are closer to their wild counterparts than any other animal which means that they can easily return to the wild than say dogs. Temple Grandin then explains that cats weren't domesticated when dogs were because early humans wanted something to protect them and the cat being small could fight like a dog could. Then she explains that domesticated cats do not look that much different from non domesticated cats. She says “They evolved some different coat colors, but most
Being natural predators, they would hunt rodents, which encouraged Middle Eastern farmers to keep them around. Grange explains that this set up could be dubbed as “mutually profitable for both sides” (qtd. in Saey). Also, as many cat owners know, cats typically mark their territory and stay in one place. Using this knowledge, scientists have drawn conclusions that cats were transported to Europe; they didn’t migrate there themselves. This idea is backed up with evidence from mitotypes. “European wildcats carried one mitotype. It’s called clade I. A 6,400-year-old Bulgarian cat and a 5,200-year-old Romanian cat had a different type of mitochondrial DNA. They both had mitotype IV-A” (Saey). These mitotypes are relative to location, so when cats in Africa were found with mitotypes previously only found in Egypt, it suggested that cats were being transported by people. Saey also brings up a valid point, “Thirty-two of 70 cats from Southwest Asia also had that mitotype. That rapid spread may indicate that sailors traveled with cats, some of which could have jumped ship to find a new
With feral cats posing ecological and public health threats, many different techniques, reflecting a range of moral and ethical values, have been proposed and implemented. TNR is considered one of the most humane methods, but other methods that exist include euthanasia, trap and eradication, and more intensive versions of TNR that include vaccinations and rehabilitations. These methods vary in their effectiveness, practicality, cost and social acceptance. Additionally, differences in how people perceive animals and their intrinsic value, have made feral cat mitigation efforts an extremely charged topic for animal welfare advocates, policy makers, conservationists and pet owners. When analyzing methods, it’s important to evaluate what their goals are in terms of managing feral cat populations, state their ethical and moral perspective, and determine their effectiveness. Additionally, their impact on cat behavior will be explored using evidence from a variety of related studies, which will serve to assist in judging the effectivity of the population control method.
Have you ever wanted to go on a vacation, or at work, or maybe your just to busy and don’t have time to take care of your cats for a few hours, and no one has the time to come over and take care of them either, well thats why i have invented the Kitty-Care-2,000. The Kitty-Care-2,000 allows you to go anywhere without finding someone to take care of your cats. It’s capable of doing what any average person can do to take care of a cat, those include: feeding, watering, brushing, playing with, and scooping the litter box.
As stated in the article “How Cats Became Domesticated”,” they hypothesized that cats were accepted by humans because of wild cats hunting rodents in agrarian civilizations as long as 9,000 years ago. This hypothesis carries weight as cats are excellent hunters and are still praised for killing unwanted rodents even today. I personally know family members that only own cats for dealing with rodents in their property. These family members are still maintaining the traditional cat human relationship from our ancestors. What was interesting in that same article was when they stated, “Cats, unlike dogs, are really only semi-domesticated… we were surprised to find DNA evidence of their domestication”. This explains the independent nature of cats that allows them to hunt rodents without the guidance of humans. Cats carry in a wild nature that keeps them self-sustained and unlike other domesticated animals are not completely dominated by their owner. Being semi-domesticated does not mean that cats are completely indifferent to humans; cats still have a unique connection to their
This article is about the cat species that is commonly kept as a pet. For the cat family, see Felidae. For other uses, see Cat (disambiguation) and Cats (disambiguation).
The ancient Egyptian cats were held in the highest esteem; the penalties for harming or killing a cat was death. They worshipped a cat as a goddess often represented as half feline, half woman, whom they called Bastet. The main center where they worshipped Bastet was in northern Egypt at the city of Bubastis. The cat became a symbol of grace and poise. Some cats received the same mummification after death as humans. During the new kingdom, the Egyptian cats were sometimes painted in the paintings. Cats were also important in interpreting dreams, because if you would see a cat in your dreams, that meant you have good harvest. The two main breeds in Ancient Egypt was the Jungle cat ( Felis chaus ) and African wildcat ( Felis silvestris
Ancient egyptians treasured each and every cat because cats were central to they religion and was sacred. The cat was considered to be semi-divine in its own right. Sine a cat was so precious it couldn't be owned by a mere human. The only humans that can own a cat are semi divine pharaohs. In the times it was illegal to sell or give a cat away to a foreigner. Killing a cat will reach very serious consequences such as DEATH. If anyone finds a dead cat, they would have to mourn a cat vociferously to ensure that they were not punished for its death. A roman soldier was once killed from a tribe of Egyptians that have killed a cat and the soldier was blamed for the dead cat. Cats were beloved pets. If any cat were to die in a household all the
Cats came to the United States from Europe. They came from Egypt before that, and they were treated very special in Egypt because one of their gods was a cat. This is when they got domesticated, which was almost 4,000 years ago. Even though they have been domesticated they still do what every living thing does. In order for cats to survive they must get energy, move and grow, adapt to the environment protect themselves and reproduce.
