Imagine yourself saving animals one day at a time. It might be hard, but you will get that amazing feeling of knowing you did something good for someone else. Veterinarians are a key role in society now a day. People don’t realize all the good they do for the public. Duties, tasks, qualities, salary, benefits, attire, education, and working conditions are major components in deciding whether you could do this job.

For example if there is an experienced veterinarian they will make more than one that has only been in the job for 2 or 3 years. Also location is an important thing to think about with this job. Such as, some states in the U.S aren’t as densely populated as others so there may not be as much work there for you to do. The median pay for a veterinarian is $84,460 a year. This averages out to about $40.61 an hour. This will vary depending on different things, so you may make more than this of less, but you will need to do more research if you are seriously considering this job. Benefits are also important when deciding if you are right for this career. Most veterinarians are guaranteed health insurance, paid vacations, plans, etc. This also depends on locations, so not all jobs are promised the same benefits.
Clothes don’t seem all that important to a job, but they actually are, especially for veterinarians. At all times they need to be clean and ready to face whatever comes their way, so they usually wear safe protective boots, occasionally scrubs if performing surgery, if on call at a farm they will just wear whatever keeps them clean and comfortable(usually jeans and t shirt), or in the office a white coat with scrubs underneath.

Although this statement is completely true, the treatment of dogs is not all that vets do. Cats, cows, parrots, and horses are just a few of the many other animals that veterinarians help. As you could probably guess, the profession of being a vet requires many years of education, being that the job requires you to have a good background knowledge of issues that animals may have. In this essay, I’m going to walk you through my educational path to accomplish my goal of becoming a Veterinarian.
The outlook of this job is predicted to grow substantially over the next years. “Employment of veterinarians is projected to grow 9 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. The reason for veterinarians being in such a need in the future is because like there will always be people, those people will always have pets. Those pets will also always need someone to take care of them, just like all people will always need doctors. Veterinarians, in general, will always be needed but, different areas of the veterinary field will be needed differently in the future. For example, food and animal veterinarians (a type of Large Animal Veterinarian) will be especially in need in the future because as the population of the planet is always increasing, those people will always need food which requires a veterinarian to administer healthcare to those food-producing animals. Also, because colleges not only train vets in the study of treating animals they also train vets in fields such as public health, disease control, corporate sales, and population studies therefore if they do not have any interest in the more common fields they will almost certainly be able to find a decent job in another. Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are being taken care of.
A lot of the work performed by vets are treatment of the animals. So if they are sick, they will give them a checkup, test blood and maybe even do and x-ray. They also give advice to owners about breeding and care taking of the animal. Some vets may specialize in the care and treatment of either large or small animals. Small-animal vets will deal mostly with household pets, such as dogs, cats, birds, rodents, and reptiles. Usually they will work in cities and the owners have to bring their animals to them in their clinics.
The reason being because they have to advise animal owners about the general care, medical conditions, and treatments for their animals. Just like a regular doctor for humans, veterinarians, have to prescribe medications. Lastly the saddest part of it all, in some cases a veterinarian would have to euthanize an animal ("Summary" U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
When people look back at their lives, a lot of them would like to think that they made a difference. One of these ways is by caring for an individual who could not take care of themselves. It would bring this person a sense of happiness and great relief knowing that they have done something to change an outcome, or potentially save a life. "Being a vet tech is a rewarding and life changing expierence" (Holmes 46) . Not only is being a vet tech rewarding and life changing, but it can help the world become a better place by saving one animal at a time. For someone who loves animals and spending time with them, being a vet technicians is the most suitable career choice.
I love animals and I would love to work with them. Ever since I was a little girl I knew I would want to work with animals because they interested me so much. Becoming a veterinarian isn’t just about playing with dogs and cats all day; you are actually in charge of taking care of them and this is a no messing around job. There are two levels of education for entry into this occupation. A 4-year program for veterinary technologist, and a 2-year program for veterinary technician. Both need to pass a credentialing exam to be licensed, certified, or registered depending on the state. Also it is recommended that in highschool you take biology, math, and science classes. Both veterinary technologists and technician typically work in private clinics and hospitals. Sometimes in laboratories, humane societies and universities. There is a higher rate of illnesses than the national rate, this being because workers could could get bitten, scratched, or kicked. This happens because of dealing with aggressive or scared animals. Many clinics are open 24 hours so with that being said some will have to work holidays or weekends. The clinic that I am interning at they are not open 24 hours, they are open from 8-5 Monday through Friday.

When getting in to the work force of a veterinarian the amount of money you earn depends on what you can and cannot do. If you do not know as much as everyone else that just started out then you do not make as much money. Going to school and learning as much as you can then you can make a bunch of money. If at first school does not help you then keep on going at it and you can learn more then you ever thought you would. There is nothing wrong with needing more help when it comes to school if it helps you later in life to make more money. When first going in you can make $74,820 annually, median wage $96,260 and experienced wage is $123,500. The more you know the better chance of making more money. The amount of money you make depend on the amount of experience.

Becoming a veterinarian takes a lot of hard work and many years of schooling, but it is an immensely satisfying job for those that are comfortable with and passionate about working with animals as well as people. Veterinarians offer medical care to by diagnosing and treating sick animals, which are often household pets, farm animals, and zoo animals.
