My analysis is over the piece called Education. This essay was written by E.B. White who was a very well accomplished essayist for the New Yorker. Not only was he known for his essays, he was also the author of the famous children's book Charlotte’s Web which he got published at a mere 40 years old. This analysis has little to do with these facts though, it has more to do with E.B. White, the concerned father of a third grader transitioning to a country school.
This is an essay aimed at anyone concerned with making a tough decision for a child, or even more generally just a hard decision. This is something everyone can relate to at some point in their lives. He assumes most people like him have a bias for public school because of what all they can offer in terms of variety, and then goes directly against that bias to send his own child to country school.
One of the main points of the article is about which decision do you choose? Should you send your child to a city school, because that’s what you did? Or should you send them to a country school so they can get a more personal education? Towards the end he also seems to imply the subtle point

The first point he explains his own experience with public school and his son's experience with country school while also explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each. He also uses a particular approach with his point of enjoying the decision you chose, and it’s how it was written. He starts off as how parents they were apprehensive, and the boy was nervous about the country school, and after the first day it was “All right”. He later goes on to say that after a year he cannot make a discernible difference between the two schools, except his son sleeps better at night. In both instances he clearly explains both sides of both arguments, and he also bleeds the two points together by talking about what happens after he made his choice and how it made him
Paul was going to go to Lake Windsor Middle School but because he had an iep he wasn’t allowed to play soccer. As a result, Paul saw that he could go to Tangerine Middle instead. He went for it because if he went to Tangerine Middle School he would not need an iep anymore and overall he would get to play soccer. He also made new friends and everyone seemed to be really nice. ’’We understand what a strain this will put on everyone’’(93-94).What this means is that there is a big confusion on if you can stay in the school or you have to transfer to Tangerine.All in all, Paul moving schools was a decision that was his choice and he chose to go to
To the casual eye, private city schools and public country schools may present to be extremely paradoxical, however, America’s most popular essayist E.B. White seems to offer a sense of similarity between the two types of schooling in his piece called “Education.” Throughout this piece, he describes his sons’s experiences with two educational philosophies, discussing the manner in which the teachers act, the food that is eaten, and even the overall atmosphere of the classroom. By using a well balanced arrangement of personal experience, as well as inferences and society’s assumption, White provides readers with an objective comparison that still remains relevant to this day.
In the United States, getting an education is very important. Children spend thirteen years of their life learning English, history, math, science, and various other subjects so that they may one day be a productive college student or a working class citizen. In fact, “There are 33,619 private schools in the United States, serving 5.4 million PK-12 students. Private schools account for 25 percent of the nation’s schools and enroll 10 percent of all PK-12 students” (“Council for American Private Education”). Parents face many issues when deciding which school is right for their child. However, the factors that determine their choice of a private or public school are often the results of various essentials that closely mirror the parent’s ideology in regards to education. Parents should send their children to a private school because private schools have smaller class sizes, the curriculum is more challenging, and the school environment is much safer than public schools.
This demonstrates that if Sam’s school had got more funding then Sam may have received a proper education, and would have learned the intellectual skills that could help him to obtain a high paying job. Unlike many other people in richer parts of America who are able to achieve a lot in life due to their education, Sam’s lack of wealth ruins his future. Another example is one that hits closer to home- in terms of educational funding, the Illinois system is corrupt, and one of the districts that suffers most is that of Chicago Public Schools. In an interview with Ryan Young from CNN and an anonymous Chicago Public School teacher over the recent strike over budget cuts and the overall lack in school funding, the teacher states, “We care about the students. We want funding for our schools so our children can have supplies… gym, art, and PE., just like the kids in the suburbs do.” This is a direct representation of what is occurring in the Chicago Public School system today as a consequence of budget cuts and unequal funding. In general, the lack of school funding gives poorer children disadvantages when it comes to supplies that can help them to thrive. Also, budget cuts weaken the capacity of schools’ to develop the intelligence and creativity of the next generation of workers. I do agree with the examples that I have provided and here’s why. I think education in the country has come along way in our history. There was a time where children were cramped in a small one room house being taught basic information, while the children who’s family’s couldn’t afford shoes, pencils or books were forced to work at a young age helping out the family on the farm, or working in a factory.
Kozol was blunt and did not hide anything to get his opinion and point across. He calls society hypocritical in the way education in cities is used, “There is something deeply hypocritical about a society that holds an eight-year-old inner-city child ‘accountable’ for her performance on a high-stakes standardized exam but does not hold the high officials of our government accountable for robbing her of what they gave their own kids six or seven years earlier” (Kozol 413). His willingness to say what he wants to get into the pathos of people is why his whole paper is appealing. When issues are presented in an appealing way, more people are willing to look into it and further their knowledge, so in the future the issue can be somewhat dealt

In the country, education for kids K-12 is a lot better than in the cities. Families with small children tend to like enrolling them in a smaller school because it’s quiet and safe for their children, and the teachers are with the same children every day and for years sometimes. However, sending them to a bigger school can get them into the wrong kind of crowds and not get to know all their teachers because of the big diversity there is. The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970’s. Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to provide public, free education for children in grades K-12. However, the backlash against the system began when two educational theorists and supporters of school reform, John Holt and Raymond Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools’ instructional program, or concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them.
Can you imagine a world in which parents were free to send their children to only the best schools, no matter which neighborhood they lived in? What if cost wasn’t a factor? Imagine if even a student in the poorest section of town had access to the best education. What could that child achieve? What would they become? How would their life change? Those questions that I asked lead now to the focus of the essay. The world we live in is ever so changing, with that the need for education also needs to be changing. No longer do classic public schools fit the job in all certain situations. That is why with school choice being a controversial issue in education reform, school choice public funds should be used to support school choice programs that offer parents alternatives to traditional public schools.
There are different types of education that a student may receive in today’s society. The choices are narrowed down into two main categories, public and private school. Many people in today’s society believe it’s better to send their children to private schools rather than public schools. To most parents deciding which school system will be better is based on curriculum, class size, and most of all cost.
