The current practices in federal policy does affect early childhood education. These policies are put into place to make sure all children can receive a great start to their education. President Obama (2011) said, “Studies show students grow up more likely to read and do math at grade level, graduate high school, hold a job, form more stable families of their own. We know this works. So let’s do what works and make sure none of our children start the race of life already behind” (p. 1). Let us work together to make it a priority to educate our youngest children.
History and Current Practices in Federal Policy The Department of Education was initiated in 1867 and was meant to gather information about the schools. This information would help the states create an effective schools. The name and location has changed multiple times over the last 130 years, but always found in the Executive Branch. There is an importance of getting information about what works to educators and policymakers quickly and continues today. World War II led to a substantial growth of Federal support for education. One side believes that the Constitution gives government the power to regulate aspects of religion and the First Amendment bars only the establishment of a national church. The other side believes that the Constitution gives government no power over religion and the First Amendment bans all types of interference with religion. I personally agree with the second side, the government needs to keep out of religion. Our forefathers built the government on God’s Word. The National Monument to the Forefathers, formerly known as the Pilgrim Monument has an image of an educator teaching from the Bible. This monument was built in 1889 and shows how the forefathers created
