I could feel my heart beating, my stomach unsteady with the feeling of anacondas slithering in my stomach, my palms sweaty and the feeling of being light headed. These all seem as symptoms of a severe sickness. So I thought. Maybe I was having a allergic reaction to him as it only happened when he was close to me. My heart ready to rupture and the feeling in my stomach being almost crippling. I was allergic to him, I had to be. I wasn't. No it was much more worst that a possible death. It was worst than that time I fell and hit my head, worst than almost dying on several different occasion. It was worst than different foster homes and foster parents. It was worst than- I think you get the point. That feeling of being vulnerable, helpless,
We got up in the morning and left for the airport. We had become professionals at packing and unpacking, exiting and entering hotels, jumping in cabs, trains, and planes. I felt like a world-class traveler.
“British Troops liberating Bergan-Belsen found that the Nazi’s had experimented using human skin for lampshades.” During the Holocaust over ⅓ of the population of Jews died (factretriever.com). Ecstasy, or 3, 4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine, was first synthesized and patented in 1914, by the German drug company Merck. The original purpose of the drug was to be an appetite suppressant, however in 1970 it was given to clinical depressed patients to open them up and talk about their feelings. Then in 1986, Ecstasy was determined to cause brain damage (http://faculity.washington.edu/chudler/mdma.html).
The recent speeches by William Jennings, have attracted a lot of attention from the people. The recent growth of Jennings’ Populism is concerning those of us who want the United States to remain true to its beliefs. Populism proposes ideas which on the surface support the lower classes but in reality would undermine our very country.
Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. It takes the form of a white or blue crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water and alcohol. Methamphetamine was manufactured from amphetamine in early in the 20th century. Medically it’s used for sleeping disorders, narcolepsy, weight-loss, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, but these uses are limited and it is rarely prescribed. Methamphetamine is classified as a Schedule II stimulant, which makes it legally available only through a nonrefillable prescription.
Spurred by the ear piercing sound of gunfire and the sweet smell of black powder
Ecstasy (MDMA) has recently gained popularity in the media due to the dramatic increase in its use by Americans, especially teens and young adults. This has lead to a surge in research efforts to determine the short and long-term physical and neurological risks that are associated with the drug. It has been discovered that Ecstasy is one of the most dangerous drugs currently available on the streets of America. It poses serious risks to its users both psychically and neurologically, being known to cause damage to major organ systems in the body, including the liver, heart and brain. Psychically, there are temporary negative side effects that occur while the drug is still active in the body, and also long-term
When listening to The Beatles discography, it is essentially impossible for anyone to deny that their music had changed drastically, both instrumentally and lyrically, around the year 1966. The albums such as Please Please Me, With The Beatles, and A Hard Day’s Night which were responsible for the phenomenon of Beatlemania were a stark contrast from the albums that they would release in the twilight of their career: Revolver, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band, The Beatles, and Abbey Road. The latter albums engaged in much more philosophical topics, featured far more complex instrumentation, and were made complete with far more sophisticated lyrics. However, the question to be asked is: What exactly prompted this drastic change in sound and meaning? While it is easy to believe that it was simply a natural maturation in songwriting, many, including The Beatles themselves, attribute this evolution to their use of LSD. LSD was the psychedelic drug of choice in the 1960’s, known for it’s mind-altering effects that could impose life-changing thoughts and feelings upon its users. When listening to The Beatles music from before and after their LSD usage, it is very apparent that it had a major impact on the evolution of their music.
Amphetamines are stimulants that dramatically affect the central nervous system. They have a common medical use and are present in medications that treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obesity, and narcolepsy. Due to its stimulative properties, an amphetamine drug can reduce the adverse symptoms of these health disorders.
As stated in (McCaughan (2004)"Ecstasy was first developed in 1914 as a weight loss aid, it was never marketed for that purpose. In 1970 the drug began to get some popularity among clinical psychologist as an aid to psychotherapy and marriage counseling in the United States". More than a decade later, DEA placed the MDMA drug into the list of schedule drugs, however the popularity of the drug gained attention among the youth subcultures. The way that this drug is distributed throughout the public is in pill form; they vary from color and designs, an example would be superman symbol, different cartoon characters, etc.; as color goes, it varies from white, blue, pink, etc.. This drugs has also gained attention in recent Hollywood Movies like Bad Boys 2, when of
The relevant facts to be considered from this case are the following: (1) that the defendant Smith has no criminal record; (2) that he has no record of previous drug use, despite his admission on previous use of marijuana and cocaine; (3) that he has no previous record of undergoing counseling or treatment for substance abuse or mental health; (4) that he was caught in possession of Ecstasy, in amounts enough for two uses; and (5) that he was suspected of being connected with a major Ecstasy ring. These facts are important in determining which laws are violated by the defendant’s acts, as well as the penalties which may be imposed upon him.
Ecstasy, a word stemming from Late Latin extasis, meaning "entrancement, astonishment, insanity; any displacement or removal from the proper place." The definition is rather spot on given the side effects that the hallucinogenic drug produces. Ecstasy or MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) originates from Germany when chemist Anton Köllisch was performing trial and error experiments with Amphetamine. At the time of its creation, Köllisch worked for pharmaceutical company Merck, who later in 1913 patents the drug. Although ecstasy is seen as a highly addictive drug with no purpose in our society today the drug was actually meant to sold as a appetite supplement. Many of Köllisch did not believe their coworker when he stated the reasoning
I would like to talk about a brief history of amphetamines and cocaine and the withdrawal symptoms associated with both drugs. Amphetamines first appeared in the 1920’s to treat hay fever and the common cold. In the 1930’s the drug was converted into an inhaler to better reach the bronchial sacs of the lungs. The drug was used to treat multiple diseases such as narcolepsy and addictions to other drugs. It was in 1939 that researchers found that amphetamine based drugs were causing harmful effects due to the abuse of the drug. At first the drug was taken by removing the cartridge from the inhaler and dissolving it in liquid and ingesting it. In 1937 amphetamines were approved for pill form. In the 1950’s there was high demand for the pills as they were used mainly to stay awake. Military soldiers, high school students, and truck drivers all used it for this purpose. Cocaine first came to light in the 1880’s. 1905 was when it first became popular to snort the substance instead of ingestion
Throughout the history of the human species, we have been always wanted to know three basic questions: why we are here, where did we come from, and where do we go after this life? Whether we were created from an omnipotent being as in many religions, we happened by chance and made it to where we are through evolution, or maybe even something else. Whatever the case may be, humans have always been curious and wondered about our existence and consciousness. Along with these age old questions, also came the use of psychoactive drugs and other mind altering substances. In order to try to understand these questions, humans have experimented with drugs that alter their state of consciousness.
Military is something that anyone would like to join, but when they like to. Also, military help build confidence inside everyone; something it puts confidence down because feel like they not strong enough and good enough to join. Also, when people are being forced to join the military they won’t do as good. Therefore, people need to worry about graduating other than training for the military. In fact, young children shouldn’t be required to join the military, unless they prefer to.
