Education Should Not Be Out Of Anyone 's Reach

In the article “Two Years Are Better Than Four” author Liz Addison writes about how community college is a forgotten option for many students in America, and that it is not well advertised like the universities are. She writes about how community college is a great option for students who need a less expensive option, but still want a chance to further their education. Addison also writes about how they allow everyone to attend so you can “just begin”. Community college is a great option for many students because it allows for an affordable option for students to continue their education.

Just about everyone agrees that college should be more affordable. A century ago high school was becoming a necessity, not a luxury; today the same is happening to college. If college is essential for building a career and being a full participant in our democracy as high school once was, shouldn 't it be free, paid for by public dollars, and treated as a right of all members of our country? The average college graduate comes out of college with at least $60,000 in debt and if they went to an Ivy League should that shots up to upward of $100,000 all this debt before they even get their first real job (“Fast Facts”). This is the burden that students have to worry about and then they only have six months to find a job that can cover they loan payments, which can be as much as a couple thousand dollars a month and most working people can’t afford that. These days it is highly emphasized that the responsibility to educate the poor lies on the shoulders of the government. It should be, considering the significant hike in the tuition fees worldwide. In such circumstances, many intelligent and hardworking students miss out on studying in a university due to lack of funds. This not only demoralizes the student, but also has a negative impact on the society as it loses out on its future professionals.

Do you know any person who just graduated high school and that person does not want to go to college? Many students today make a decision that can change the outcome of their life. Community college is seen as a cheaper way of furthering education, but when prices are hiked up, students develop a harder time trying to pay for it. Some students partake in the luxury of not having to worry about paying for their schooling, or their supplies and books; however, what about those who suffer and pay for it all out of pocket. The outrageous price of college tuition today is making going to school unrealistic for most. We as students need the federal government to find a better way for us to attend school and not have to pay a lot of money for it. Students in this generation are not going to college just because it costs more money than they can spend. The only way the students to go to school would be to get loans, unless they get scholarships. Then in 2015, the average student debt was about $35,000 (Sparshott, 2015). There are many children in this world. Most of them would like to have the chance to attend some kind of college.
