I have always aspired to teach in all my encounters in life. Whether it’d be my friends or co-workers, I have always made an effort to share my knowledge with others in order to help them. I have always held high expectations for myself, and in turn, my loved ones so that they would be better equipped in life. I always encourage people in my life to go out and seek knowledge, as this is the tool most necessary in being a successfully self-sufficient individual. My personal high standards and passion for learning have always propelled me into academic atmospheres and would be a great asset and motivational factor in a teaching position. Given the opportunity to share knowledge and more captivatingly, to learn together, I feel that my …show more content…
By pushing me beyond my perceived limitations and showing me how much I can accomplish, these teachers helped to shape me into the successful professional that I am today. It would be a great honor and privilege to become that same inspirational factor in so many young people’s lives, being able to pay forward all the great things that I was lucky to have experienced in my education. And lucky it should not be, because I feel that my drive for excellence and for only the best would bring a much-needed resource into a system that many are not too fond of. More specifically, I refer to the stigmas that I have often encountered in my research on the public school system as well as the news about teachers in general. The reports on poorly trained or worse, un-trained instructors is a scandal at best. This, paired with my own experiences with public schools has led me to be a firm believer in the fact that these schools need teachers that are truly devoted to their responsibilities.
I may not have had much exposure to high-need school situations but I do recognize that spirits are low in such areas. My brother for example, who attends a public middle school, oftentimes talks of how confusing or curtailed a lesson was. I hear of subjective grading on topics that have not been
Back in the 1950s, teaching was considered a noble profession. The men and women that chose the field of education as a career were well respected by parents, students, and the community as a whole. I sat down with a retired teacher, a current teacher and a student working on their education degree, all three from the same family. Mr. Charles Faren is a retired high school teacher, head football coach and assistant principal, Ms. Cheryl Faren is currently a middle school reading teacher for the Clark County School District, and Mr. Matthew Barth is a student at College of Southern Nevada working on his degree in secondary education who is currently working as a gear up tutor at one of the county’s middle schools. The role of a teacher hasn’t necessarily changed over the years, the requirements and expectations have however. Today the educators of America are required to teach what is called common core, they have to prepare students to take standardize exams, with the technology of the internet and social media comes new forms of bullying and harassment that shows up in schools, low wages and now a lack of support and respect that today’s teachers now have to work through.
In healthcare the priority is not only the care and treatment of patients - it is adhering to policy, procedure and workflow processes to ensure the privacy, security and confidentiality of individuals goes beyond care in every capacity. The content of information is sensitive and is the providers and other healthcare workers responsibility to safeguard the information they receive and used to determine diagnosis, treatment plans. Patients want to feel comfortable and trusting with their information especially in the electronic world and how their information is being handled.
In the state of South Carolina, public school's students are educated on the basis of a minimally adequate education. South Carolina legislators have interpreted the definition for minimally adequate education, given by the South Carolina Supreme Court, into curriculum requirements for students across the state. South Carolina legislators’ curriculum expectations for graduating high school students are below average. In relation, the students of South Carolina are being hindered from seeing and reaching their full potential by being “normed” to do below average work. Minimally adequate education provides a foundation for inequity in schools and leaves students unprepared for
Since my first day of grade school I have dreamt of becoming a teacher. It was not until my junior year of high school that my dream grew into a passion for wanting to teaching in an urban environment. During a field tip to a Chicago Public School, I observed that the students where clearly in an underfunded and disadvantaged environment compared to my own experience in school. The moment that I saw that teacher earning respect and influencing her students, it was obvious to me that these teachers were the most influential factor in the classroom. The teacher’s attitude and ability to influence was more important than any other resource.
I first became familiar with UCLA’s Teacher Education Program in 2015 when I heard about their partnership with LAUSD and the UCLA community school. I do not think I have been more inspired to become an educator than when I heard about this new way of looking at public education. Hearing the children’s testimonials about the school and the doors it opened for them really got me interested in social justice and creating better learning environments for students. For me, it was never about the reputation of the school I was in but the effort put forth by all of my teachers. I believe that this is what a lot of schools are lacking
Hearing the word “teaching” makes me think about something great, such as dedication and contribution. In my opinion, teaching means sharing everything positive to others in order to develop those people, such as knowledge and moral values. Even conveying light advice and motivation can be counted as a worthy lesson. By teaching, the teacher also can obtain a lot of benefits. Firstly, teacher may obtain knowledge that she or he did not know before from the students. Secondly, teacher’s communication skill may be improved by doing intensive interaction with the students. Lastly, teacher may get many psychological values, such as patience, passion, joy, and satisfaction. Considering those benefits, I would like to take every opportunity to teach.
Teaching had always been a passion and calling for me and the dream to study the Bachelor of Education was now put on the back burner until 2014. The opportunity to study teaching arose, I have seized and since have been working back in education. I have crossed paths with many inspiring, talented and gifted teachers and I would also like to participate and contribute to the profession of teaching. Due to my strong administrative skills and project management knowledge, I can effectively and cheerfully organise and plan programs to support the Teacher. I am proactive, and willing to assist, plan and work collaboratively with year level cohort
I have been interested in a career in teaching for a number of years and the last year has allowed me to develop further the qualities needed to be a successful teacher. My experience in the classroom…. Therefore, I am applying for a Geography PGCE as I recognise education is a vital part of any child's development not just intellectually but also socially. It provides opportunities for children to develop and gain experiences and knowledge they would otherwise miss out on.
Research has shown that students from low socioeconomic status, or SES, academic skills have developed at a slower rate compared to other students from higher level SES groups. (Morgan, Farkas, Hillemeier, & Maczuga, 2009) Schools in which most students are apart of the low SES group tend to have communities with a higher rate of unemployment, low retention rate of competent teachers, and receive lower scores on the achievement tests. Due to the fact that a large number of quality of teachers are leaving the schools, the class sizes are larger. This prohibits teachers from being able to give individualized instruction to the students who are really struggling. Similarly, these schools located in regions that typically have a low SES have fewer resources. Typically children from these communities also receive less supervision by parents or adults.
As a student, I have been inspired by a few teachers at both my primary and secondary schools to seek an interest in the teaching profession. One year after finishing secondary school where I obtained most of my passes I took some time to reflect back on my twelve years at school and the few critical incidents that have cultivated my thinking about teachers and teaching. Some incidents were positive and others negative, but all assisted to shape the type of teacher I want to be in the future! A few critical incidents that shaped my thinking were the first time I came first in a class, the evening I approached the lackadaisical teacher and the day where I was escorted out of class.
President Obama once said, “Every single one of you has something that you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.” For about two decades, people have been quarreling about whether post-secondary education is necessary. Opposers against college argue that one can still have a good job without a college degree. However, post-secondary education is essential because there is a lesser chance of being unemployed, the greater chance of a better salary, and it can help inspire someone to change the world.
Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn, not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk
During my time at school the combination of education and social justice issues is a complex one. School is supposed to be a safe place for one to learn and grow, however with the increasing amount of inequalities within the school system there seems to be a growing divide between what we consider the “norm” and those we deem as the “other” (Kumashiro, 2000). The “other” is constantly pressured to conform to the norm of society, which is socially constructed (Sensoy and Di Angelo,2012) and this poses an issue in most schools, but even more apparent in urban schools. Within this reflection paper I will discuss my experience with social justice issues in high school, my overall experience living in a town where there was a large divide in socio-economic status, and how these experiences molded me as a student now and how they will impact my learning and teaching in urban schools.
When I think about teachers that I have had in the past, several different ones come to my mind. Each of these educators stands out in my mind for a variety of diverse reasons. Whether it is their sense of humor, their tactfulness, their love of the subject matter, their fanatical and sporadic behavior, or their yearning to be childish themselves, I can still remember at least one quality of every teacher I have ever encountered. Every one of these teachers conveyed subject material to their students just as they were educated and employed to do. However, I trust that every professional in the world has an abundance of opportunity for improvement; teachers could discover and improve themselves merely by having
“I just don't understand! Why you have to be so simple? Answer me Elizabeth. “Why would you sit there and pee on yourself?” and you think I am going to clean that mess up, well you thought wrong.”
