Edwin Powell Hubble
Edwin P. Hubble was born on November 20 1889 in Marshfield, Missouri. His parents were Virginia Lee James and John Powell Hubble who was an insurance executive. He had two sisters and two brothers. In 1900 his family moved to Wheaton, Illinois. As a kid, Edwin was a gifted athlete playing basketball, football, baseball, and was on the track and field team in which he won several awards. In 1906, he set the state high school record for the event High Jump in Illinois. Two of his favourite hobbies were fly fishing and boxing. 1907, he attended the University of Chicago where he studied math and astronomy and became a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. The same year, he led the University of Chicago’s basketball team to

in 1910 he received his Bachelor of Science degree. After getting his Bachelors of Science, he spent 3 year at The queens College in Oxford where he studied law, fulfilling his promise to his dying father. During his time at The Queens College, he also studied literature and spanish, which helped him earn his Masters degree. In the winter of 1913, Edwin’s father passed away, the following summer he returned to take care of his mourning family. After a few months had passed, he got a job as a teacher at the New Albany high school in indiana, where he would teach spanish, physics and math for a year. After teaching for one year, at the age of 25, he decided that he wanted to start over and pursue astronomy again. He enrolled in graduate school to study astronomy at the Yerkes Observatory where he eventually received his PhD in 1917. Later that year when the U.S declared war on Germany, Hubble volunteered for the US army and got assigned to the newly created 86th Division. and despite never seeing combat, he was able to achieve the rank of major. He also fought in WWII and received a Legion of Merit award. In 1919, he was offered a position at Mount Wilson Observatory in California, which he took and remained to work there
The Hubble Space Telescope is the first major telescope that was placed in space. It has been in operation for over twenty-five years, and has greatly changed our knowledge of the universe. It can observe galaxies and stars that are very far away since it is not blocked at all by light pollution and smog that obstructs the views of the telescopes on Earth. Hubble is fascinating because it was and still is the most revolutionary telescope since Galileo first looked through one over four hundred years ago. Hubble played a large role in helping scientists discover and learn about many things like dark matter and dark energy, the age of the universe, and gamma ray bursts. None of these discoveries would have been possible without Hubble’s unique view of the universe.
He received a early education from a Ohio Military Institute. He received his college degree with honors at Miami University Ohio at the age of 19. In his adult life he was lawyer. In 1860 He was elected Supreme Court reporter. In 1862 He had three children. His son was Russell Benjamin Harrison. His daughters were Elizabeth Harrison Walker and Mary Harrison Mckee. His was first wife was Mary Dimmick Harrison. His second wife is Caroline Harrison.
Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin was born on January 20, 1930 in New Jersey. He and Armstrong were both young men when they joined NASA. Both young men went to college and finished all of the necessary courses needed to enroll into the facility. “Buzz” had one of the most successful space walks in the world. He was in space for 5 hours before being returned to the planet. Buzz like Armstrong like to do
Unlike Einstein, and other great scientists or astronomers, Hubble was an astounding student. At his high school graduation the principal said, “Edwin Hubble, I have watched you for four years and I have never seen you study for ten minutes, (paused), here is a scholarship for the University of Chicago.” (Edwin) He graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in Mathematics and Astronomy in 1910.
The government should allot money for the Hubble Space Telescope because they need to keep it operational. The Hubble might last only another year if they don’t continue to improve it. They need to keep Hubble in service to understand how the universe works, so they can continue to find planets to colonize and to fulfill man’s need to explore.
Then he later went on to college at Purdue university. He earned a masters degree there. Before he even became an astronaut he had studied airplanes with a group of people.
Once there, Hubble began his studies in astronomy and mathematics at the university. In 1910, Hubble won the Rhodes Scholarship to study in Europe for 3 years which he used to
Neil armstrong went to Purdue university, and university of Cincinnati. He got his piloting license and went to serve for the navy. He was also in the Korean war. After the Korean war he went to work for nasa. that
He went to a boarding school in 1925. He wasn't good at physics and mathematics in this school but he had already realized his passion in astronomy with a telescope which was a present from his mother.(wikipedia)
The science of astronomy has come a long way. For instance, Galileo discovered the first four moons of Jupiter. Nicolaus Copernicus proved that the Earth wasn’t the center of the solar system. But one man will change all that is known about space. Edwin P. Hubble had discovered a amazing discovery that rocked the whole astronomy community, there were other planets, stars, and galaxies outside of our own. Hubble’s discovery changed everything man has ever known about the stars.
Johannes Kepler was born in Weil der Stadt Germany on December 27th 1571. His father (Heinrich Kepler) was a mercenary and his mother (Katharina Guldenmann) was the daughter of an inn keeper. As a child Kepler was apparently very weak and was sick constantly. When he was young he showed that he had a very high interest in astronomy and maths. When people came to stay in his grandfathers inn he showed them his high skill in maths which left a lasting impression. In 1577 when he was age six he witnessed the ‘Great Comet of 1577’, this furthered his interest in astronomy. Then when he was nine he saw a lunar eclipse in 1580. But because of how weak and sick he was his vision of both of these events could have been better.
“The Hubble, has given us nothing less than an ontological awakening, a forceful reckoning with what is the telescope compels the mind to contemplate space and time on a scale just shy of the infinite.” implied Ross Anderson, an engineer. With this one telescope, created by a normal astronomer, scientists and astronomers are able to see space as never seen before. They are able to make mind boggling observations that contemplate space to an infinite scale. Thousands of discoveries about space have been observed through this lense and without the magnitude of high level instruments compiled into this large instrument most of these observations would never have been discovered. As proposed by Floyd E. Bloom a researcher, on izquotes.com, “As
The Hubble’s constant is a measure of the current expansion rate of the universe (1). Researchers have deduced that the expansion rate of the universe is found by the current density and composition it holds (1). Hubble’s constant is represented by H0; the equation use is 1/H0 (1). According to Hubble’s constant, it is around 72 km/sec/Mega parsec (1). Thus, approximately equals to about 13.77 billion years; give or take about 50 million years (1). However, researchers discovered that the universe is currently expanding slower than previous years; affecting the rate of the universe (1).
The universe is compose of billions of stars, Milky Way, and Galaxies. The study of these three area of the universe has been done by many scientist. However, a person named Edwin Powell Hubble discovered something beyond Milky Way and Galaxies, which is called the Nebulae. According to Hubble, he stated that “Until recently those outer regions in the realm of speculation … they appear as small faint clouds mingled among the stars and many of them have long been known by the name “nebulae.” Their identification as great stellar systems, the true inhabitants of the universe.” (Hubble). Hubble’s discovery of the nebulae and stellar systems has helped him discover something new. While studying the nebulae and stellar
He attended two different colleges as well. First, he went to Trinity College in Cambridge but wasn’t pleased with the math program there. So, he then attended Peterhouse, in Cambridge. He was the best mathematician at Peterhouse. He graduated from Peterhouse but didn’t receive an honorary degree. He wasn’t successful when he first graduated. He did some lectures on astronomy every now and then; And eventually helped to establish the Astronomical Society. A little later he received his honorary degree without question.
