Sarah, I took the class (NURS 350) around early in this year. The class was so interesting and informative for me. I could understand about what is effective leadership and what is my skills for being a good leader. I think the information that I learned through the class will be good in real practice further as a Registered Nurse. I hope you have good luck and achievement your further goal.
Regards,
These classes have given a wonderful educational experience. They have taught us how to work as a Nurse, what to do and what not to do in the work environment, it has given us an early experience that we probably would have had until college. The importance of this program is that it prepares you and helps you understand the basics of this
1. Analyze the leadership styles(s) of a senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director, ect.) in your current or previous organization who made a positive or negative impact on you.
This class addressed vital issues impacting the business world from the position of a leader. It explored the standards of relational leadership and how to create group and individual leadership skills to influence lives groups and organizations. Content of the course- included effective communications, setting goals, decision making service leadership and many more leadership styles, and effective ways to implement change. I covered some basic concepts that are important to personal skills development and some leadership behaviors.
This leadership course has taught me to the importance of leadership and what it means to be a leader. That leadership is something that is learned and developed over time. To set goals and encourage those who are involved in accomplishing the goal. Being a leader more than just having follower, but to have enthusiasm, courage, humility, and integrity. This course have also helped me understand how to not only apply leadership to my personal life but to the working atmosphere.
Over the past ten years I have worked closely with residents, medical faculty and leadership which enabled me to increase my understanding of the medical profession from a broad perspective, the patient care as well as the business part of health care. I am in the process of completing my premedical classes which thus far provided me with a foundation of scientific knowledge which will aid me in the completion and understanding of the rigorous curriculum set forth for my aspired medical profession. While medical education and scientific knowledge is the major component of being an exemplary physician, the importance of understanding the business aspect of health care in addition to the ability of being a compassionate, understanding and respectful will help me become a well rounded physician. I decided on completing a Master’s
As the current Vice President of Sales and Operations at Best-One (Tire) Retreading in South Bend, Wes Yoder is actively engaged in a traditional leadership position on a daily basis. He holds a degree in accounting and is used to analyzing business operations and fine tuning them for efficiency, focusing on the details. While this detail-oriented streak is certainly needed for his current position, the Yoder is also asked to work quite heavily in with the people around him, not just the processes they carry out. He interacts with customers, suppliers, and is also involved in the hiring process at Best-One.
When I think of the President’s Leadership Academy I picture a family. Families are there to support each other and provide stability. From what I have read about the President’s Leadership Academy cohort is that they support one another towards their paths for success. PLA also provides a greater opportunity to learn. In life learning comes through the experiences that one must take on. With the PLA it is obvious that the students receive many opportunities to learn way beyond the classroom. Whether it is community service projects or learning how to become a servant leader the experiences one would receive through this organization are extremely beneficial.
I believe the content that I learned in this class will increase my success in nursing because this course thoroughly teaches one how to speak publicly, better communicate with my patients, and provide them with the necessary information they require throughout their visit/procedure. Along with the ability to communicate with patients and family; I believe it is also essential to have good communication between coworkers and supervisors. For example, during meetings or presentations that occur throughout the work year to be able to voice my opinion and present specific information effectively and persuasively is also an efficient skill set. I believe this course has taught me the necessary tools that will allow me to effectively communicate
An analysis of the leadership practices for myself, Ira Rainey, is provided within this paper.
Creating an internship activity upon completion of this course has changed my thinking of educational leaders and the process of running an effective school. I knew administrators had a great deal of responsibilities, but in order to successfully run a school, you must be incredibly versatile, have a strong skill set, and high levels of knowledge. Communication and planning are at the top of the list of important tools for educational leaders. Lack of communication and planning can easily set a school back many years. School improvement plans are very common now days, which means as a future educational leader I must be effective at implementing them to increase academic achievement. According to Best and Dunlap (2014), “Research shows that using a continuous improvement process has proven successful in healthcare, manufacturing, and technology, and may hold potential for use in education as well” (Best & Dunlap, 2014). This process has helped me realize the things I must do to successfully implement change and the things I
I feel that it is very important to have a dedicated and knowledgeable leader in an early childhood education setting because they set the expectations and quality of programming. One of my favorite things to tell my staff is; children and great imitators, so give them something great to imitate. I feel this is also true with my staff members, a great leader is able to lead by example and be followed. They will follow if they trust that you are dedicated and are confident that you are knowledgeable. I think that organization, tenacity and experience are all very critical for such a dedicated and knowledgeable leader to possess. What I most hope to gain from this course are new and innovative ways to promote quality and gain other educator’s
The Organizational course at Concordia University—Portland successfully helps individuals internalize the concepts related to organizational development while guiding one make ethical and moral decisions as a leader. Through completion of this course, one will come to the realization that being a successful leader occurs through acquisition of certain traits. Individuals that are not fully equipped to successfully lead cannot expect to lead effectively. Fullan (2011) lists the seven qualities of change leaders in his book as; someone who actively participates, is resolute, who motivates, collaborates, a learner, uses data correctly, and keeps it simple. All those qualities are important in being an effective leader, however possessing all of those qualities requires one to be a leader who practices different leadership styles. As a rising leader it is ones’ duty to make sure that their team feels supported by them. “The effective change leader actively participates as a learner in helping the organization improve.” (Fullan, 2011)
This course has given me some tools I previously didn’t have. It has also opened some doors of knowledge I didn’t know where available for me, as a nurse. I feel more powerful understanding the “money” side of the business and having preliminary understanding of the appropriate steps in healthcare entrepreneurship. Some nurses don’t want to get involved or been aware of the administrative/ business part of their job. I don’t agree with that and consider the business/administrative part as one of the most important. I understand this class doesn’t give me the full understanding and will not provide all the knowledge I may need to manage an organization but it does provide the exact steps one may take if want to gain all that knowledge and been
The penultimate course I took for the completion of the Educational Leadership program, Leadership Theory allowed me to explore the principles of personality and how it would relate to leadership situations. The key artifact for this subject had me reflect on my attitudes after completing the following surveys: the Principal's Leadership Style Survey, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, the Teacher's Occupational Preference Inventory, the Principal's Influence Questionnaire, the Change Approach Inventory, and the Principal's Interpersonal Confidence Index. In this section, I will reflect on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Questionnaire and on the Principal’s Leadership Style Survey. I will share my reflections on what the results may
