Leadership Assessment
1. Analyze the leadership styles(s) of a senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director, ect.) in your current or previous organization who made a positive or negative impact on you.
In a previous organization I had a platoon sergeant by the name of Staff Sergeant Hardy. He was a very strategic leader who had the ability to anticipate, envision, maintain flexibility, think strategically, and works with others to initiate changes that created a positive future for our platoon/company (Williams, 2012).
He was terrific at reacting to crises and fixing them. He worked his magic in our first deployment to Iraq. Sergeant Hardy took over two hundred soldiers to

Sergeant Hardy knew what he valued. He also recognized the importance of ethical behavior. He exhibited both values and ethics in his leadership style and actions. Sergeant Hardy ethics and values were very visible because he lived them in his actions every single day. He lived true to all seven United States Army core values and everyone in his presents followed his lead. As a leader, Sergeant Hardy chooses the values and the ethics that were most important to him, the values and ethics he believed in and it defined his character. Living his values was one of the most powerful tools available to him that helped him lead and influence others in the workplace. He knew the vital aspect of the workplace is working well with others. That included everyone from peers to supervisors. He knew not all employees will not always like each other, but knew they needed to set aside their personal or even work-related differences to reach a larger goal. In many instances, those who are not considered “team players” could have faced demotion. On the other hand, those who work well with others often advanced on that aspect alone, in the
In this journal, I will discuss my strength skills and skill that I would need to make growth in. Then I will discuss strategies I can use to enhance my group leadership skills that I need growth in.
We have learned that good leadership involves enabling others to act on behalf of your cause. One person cannot achieve a meaningful transformation on their own; they need others to support them in order for something noteworthy to be achieved. Before this can happen, a leader needs to recognize the areas of leadership that require improvement in order to effectively improve their team, and themselves. After reading Challenging the Process, and Enable Others to Act, I have been able to evaluate how these practices will improve the three leadership areas that I chose in Module One.
An Army leader is one who is in charge or in command of others. A great leader sees things as they are and as they ought to be, has the vision and foresight to lead change, to meet evolving challenges with strength of character, and the fortitude to overcome any obstacle.
Choose two business leaders either living or deceased, and provide three examples that illustrate how they demonstrated leadership characteristics. For each of the people in the chosen examples, compare and contrast the differences between his / her leadership characteristics.

After serving over 15 years in the Ohio Army National Guard, I have experienced many different leadership styles. Some styles have had a positive impact on both my personal life and my military life. While others, have had a negative influence. My experience with different leadership styles has taught me what type of leader I strive to be and highlights the impact I have on others as a peer and leader. These experiences helped define me as not only a leader, but as a person. I have been given the privilege of influencing young Soldiers and our future leaders. As a leader I value integrity, hard work, and service.
The road to becoming an exceptional leader while rewarding, is one filled with numerous challenges. Developing the necessary skills required in order to successfully lead others is a life-long process. In this paper, I will discuss in details my leadership qualities. I will include results from my Seven Habits Profile, evaluate my strength and weaknesses and adopt leadership theories that will help guide my self-evaluation. In addition, I will analyze proven theories that will help me address skills, weaknesses, and behaviors in my leadership skills. These theories-based changes will help form and guide my set of SMART goals. I will draft a plan for success in my journey towards becoming a great leader.
What type of position enables a person to lead, enforce regulations, educate and guide subordinates and peers, and to take on the challenge to ensure that everyone on their team is accounted for, motivated and ready? As a Sergeant of any rank or Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) in the Army, all of the aforementioned are inherited responsibilities. When you are selected to be in this position, it takes initiative to do what’s expected of you when there is no additional leadership. Integrity is also expected of sergeant because they are entrusted to do the right thing at the right time, which is necessary when leading subordinates.
Think of the best leader you have worked for, describe their leadership traits and why they were effective.
It was all over the news when the terrorist attacks happened in Paris. It was devastating to the families and people who live them found it difficult to cope. Many families migrated to the US to settle down with their remaining families that survive the tragedy. It was devastating all around the world and issues still remains unresolved till this day. After the tragedy, the US governors in each state were prepared and some were not prepared to accept refugees to reside in the state in which they are governing. A Republican Gov. Mike Pence, who is the governor of Indiana clearly and loudly declared the refusal of the Syrian refugees and suspended the resettlement of the families in Indiana. Gov. Mike
After analyzing the case study: “Effective leadership in unexpected places: A socio-historical analysis of Red Tops dance orchestra”, It is my belief that Walter Osborne’s team leadership of “effective communication” and “specifying team mission and organization” as the most important and meaningful leadership traits to me as a military leader. These leadership traits are essential for enhancing the trust relationships between a leader and his subordinates as well as subordinates to leaders. These leadership traits are embedded in the Army’s definition of leadership “the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization” as stated in ADP 6-22.
Leadership, according to the Army doctrine, represents individuals’ ability to influence people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization (“Leadership” FM 6-22). However, the varying characteristics of individuals that the Army attracts may instill this doctrine in many different ways, leading to different representations of leadership. Some individuals choose to lead their subordinate in a stern matter, only displaying matured emotions and a “tough-loving” attitude to guide them in the right direction. Others
The results of the self-assessments are not consistent. According to the Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment, I rated low on self-awareness. This is due to my inability to recognize my strengths and weaknesses. I did, however, rate high on internalized moral perspective, balanced processing, and relational transparency. Next, the LMX 7 Questionnaire, I rated high. This questionnaire was given to my supervisor and one of my followers. The results of my Path-Goal Leadership Questionnaire, I rated average in all leadership styles. I rated highest in the directive style. The Skills Inventory Assessment resulted in a high score in technical and human skills, and moderate in conceptual skills. Having a moderate score in conceptual skills results in my inability to see the goals of the organization. I should familiarize myself with the organizations aims and objectives and align my goals with theirs. Furthermore, the Leadership Trait Questionnaire scores averaged between a 3 and 4, the highest scores being in dependability and friendly.

I signed up for Professor Sandra Deacon’s OB460 Leadership Challenge class hoping to identify weaknesses in my leadership style and to possess the pivotal tools and knowledge to become a better leader. Based on my SLPI results as shown in Exhibit 1, my strengths include inspiring a shared vision and encouraging the heart, which was present within my team experience throughout the semester. With my team, I assisted in thoroughly establishing value congruence amongst team members. I wanted to ensure in the beginning of the semester that there is mutual accountability and interdependency as we diligently worked on making a difference within the Boston community. In team meetings, I always find myself asking “What can we accomplish within the week, given everyone’s extracurricular and work commitments?” to ensure that everyone is diligently working towards the team’s objectives. In addition, I consistently made an effort to create an environment where individual contributions both academic and personal based are recognized. Throughout various check-in points while working on our project with Haley House, I made a conscious effort to be involved in my team’s lives. For example, my teammate Paige recently tried out for a cooking competition, which we later learned was one of her passions. After our Professional Development Workshop, we cheered her on as she left to prepare for the competition.
