Everyone should be able to vote, this is true. The controversy between the best way to do so, is evident. Electronic Voting Machines, or EVMs, have been introduced within the past deacde. Although they have provided innovative strengths to the process of voting, EVMs, also have many weaknesses.
Electronic voting has proved it's previlence in today's society. People with language barriers and physical disabilities are accomodated perfectly by the high-tech EVMs. They are easy for disabled voters with vision impairments to use with voice and audio systems. They are perfect for physically disabled voters because of their readily avaliable handheld devices. Another strength of EVMs, is they are programmed with a large variety of languages, eliminating
As technology has evolved there have become more ways to cast a vote than ever before. Most people are familiar with the traditional way of
For several decades, the American people have been skeptical if their votes count due to the uncertainty of various voting methods. The election process is marred with dissatisfaction and inaccuracy in governmental elections. Voting means a lot to citizens because it is what gets the people’s voices heard. There are voters that are uncertain of trusting the candidates that will make their laws and regulations, however, they still have the power to vote them out from office. But when different types of voting equipment have problems those issues affect all voters. There are ways of voting that can sometimes fail, and the discovery of fraud in the voting process can make people question the election results. The right to vote is what many Americans believe is the most essential part of being an American in a democratic nation. To keep the American citizens’, trust the voting operation system must work properly and establish that the people’s votes are counted. The American election administration is facing the new generation of technology that is designed for voting. The management of hardware and software can be a great challenge for many upcoming elections throughout the years ahead. Today, there are several methods of counting votes with equipment that are used for the election system. The voting methods are Direct-Recording Electronic (DRE), Optical Scan Paper
As citizens of the United States, we often fail to realize the things we are privaligded to have. Some countries are left without the privalidge of choice. In the despute between whether or not these elctric voting machines should be used i stand neutral. Voting in America is one of the most honorable privaledges you could have as a citizen, yet we take it so lightly.
EVMS are able to produce more accurate results than just regular paper ballots. When you vote for a candidate, it is stored electronically that you voted for that candidate. Computer software adds up all the votes for each candidate more accurately and efficiently this way. Computers work like calculators, and the only way to make a mistake using this method would be somebody inserting the incorrect numbers.
Many people argue over whether or not people should use EVMs or paper ballots. This is a very serious argument. The reason being that this is how we make important decsisions as a community that directly influences the goverment and controls most of our daily lives. People argue over the safety of voting and how it can be swayed, however this is why EVMs should be used more.
Voting is a right to all American citizens, not just those who can only use paper ballots. The use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) are more accessible than paper ballots. They are more secure than paper ballots. EVMs are also more accurate than paper ballots.
Stated in 'Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea', "Ohio spent $115 million on EVM upgrades in 2014. Cash-strapped states can't afford this upkeep, so they end up with aging machines that don't work correctly." Machines that are not functioning properly can lead to errors such as the one that took place in Virginia in 2014 where dozens of voters reported that the machines had incorrectly recorded their votes. As well as technical errors, there is the possibility for malicious activity. Again from 'Electronic Voting Is a Bad Idea', the author explains, "Like all computers, EVMs can be hacked." It doesn't require a genius to tamper with the machines. In 2007, "It was found that malicious software can transfer EVM votes for one candidate to another without the voter noticing." That is an alarming thing to think
Voting is a right not a privilege , as we all know and some people have different opinions on how it should be done. I feel as though that electronic voting is a bad idea.
Some believe that electronic voting machines or EVMs are helpful in the use of alderly or people with physical disabilty. While some believe it is to great of risk that it could be hacked. I believe we should have EVMs.
EVMs should be available to use for voters. Over the past years, some individuals were not able to vote due to the fact that paper ballots were only offered in few languages; this causes confusion and may lead individuals to vote for the wrong canidates. Paper ballots are only available in few languages, whilst there are hundreds of languages spoken across the country. Although they may ask for assistance from poll workers, there would be invasion of privacy.
Voting is one of the single most important rights that an American citizen can take advantage of. However, the method of how a voter should cast their ballots has become a topic of controversy in recent years. For centuries, voting polls across the world have relied on simple paper ballots to reach a conclusive result; but, with the introduction of much more efficient electronic voting machines, or "EVMs", the question has risen... Which voting system is superior? In my opinion, EVMs are the superior method of casting a ballot and there are several reasons why I say so.
EVMs provide greater accessibility via a variety of means. The machines have audio and voice systems for people with impaired vision, hand-held devices for people who have trouble standing, as well as other assistive features that can't be achieved with paper ballots. There are 33.7 million people of voting age in the United States with disabilities, a group that is 20% less likey to vote do to accessibility issues that EVMs help solve.
One reason I believe electronic voting is not a good idea is because of hacking problems. I dont feel like its a secure way to vote. Just with basic electrical knowledge and tools someone can easily hack the system and tamper with the votes. For example: in my experience i knew someone that was very skilled in computers. This person easily showed me how he can use certain codes and hack into cameras from other places.
There are many controversial topics in this politically correct world. There are topics about morals, standards, and personal ethics. One of the newest debatable subjects however, is the one concerning this new centuries way of casting an individual’s vote, through electronic voting. Electronic voting is a way to cast a person’s ballot using an electronic voting machine that is touch screen. There are many advantages to using these machines during an election but there are also many disadvantages to using them as well. Before a person can make their own judgments on this subject it is important to understand and view both sides of the argument.
A voting system has four characteristics: accuracy, anonymity, scalability, and speed. Current electronic voting machines claim to
