Embeddedness in the making of financial capital: how social relations and networks benefit firms seeking financing. Maar hij …show more content…

Market power in banking, for example, may, to a degree, be beneficial for access to financing. With too much competition, banks may be less inclined to invest in relationship lending .At the same time, because of hold-up problems, too little competition may tie borrowers too much to an individual institution, making the borrower less willing to enter a relationship (Claessens, 2009). More competition can then, even with relationship lending, lead to more access. Financial managers must be aware of its firm's competition and ensure a proper balance for financial

WACC or weighted average cost of capital is the firm’s cost of capital with each category of capital weighted proportionately. The more debt that company uses, the higher the WACC. The higher the WACC, the higher the company’s risk. When using debt, the WACC begins to fall, but eventually, the costs of debt and equity will cause WACC to increase which will in turn cause the value of the company to drop. This brings us back to the optimal or target capital structure, where the debt to equity ratio maximizes the firm’s value.
Nowadays, many social scientists agree that social capital is present and positively contributes to economic growth in the light of many studies. In other words, social capital is important to the efficient functioning of modern economies. It constitutes the cultural component of modern societies, which in other respects have been organized since the enlightenment on the basis of formal institutions, the rule of law, and rationality. Building social capital has typically been seen as a task for second generation economic reform; but unlike economic policies or even economic institutions, social capital cannot be so easily created or shaped by public policy. This project will define social capital, explore its economic and

As a startup, there exists a plethora of obstacles a firm must overcome before it can become a successful company. The earliest, and arguably most critical, hurdle a startup must surmount is deciding which method of financing their startup requires. It goes without saying that choosing the best method of financing is crucial to a firm’s success as a startup. Nevertheless, while we analyze when a firm implements said methods of financing, it is important to also look at the stages of financing a startup undergoes. By understanding these stages of financing, one can have a sharper grasp as to when and why a firm might favor a particular financing option.
According to Schmukler (2004), when financial institutions in one country are under duress, borrowers have the option to raise capital by issuing shares in domestic or international capital markets. The globalization of finance make the valuing and distribution of capital more efficient as changes in financial risks are revealed quickly. Furthermore, borrowers and investors can obtain better terms on their financing as “they are able to tap a broader pool of capital from a more diverse and competitive array of providers” (Häusler, 2002). Corporations can afford tangible investments because they have become substantially cheaper. As a result, these reduced rates improve economic activity and growth, in addition to economic prosperity. Emerging enterprises and reputable banks can source funds from a diverse group of providers, and build their businesses.
In conditions of employer employee correlation in the West, Kanter (1972) posits two kinds of relational ties. One sort is non-rational, touching, poignant, conventional and expressive; the other is rational, contractual, instrumental, and task-oriented. Likewise, in the Western network resources literature, relational ties have been theoretically

In finance, capital structure refers to the way a corporation finances its assets through some combination of equity, debt, or hybrid securities. A firm 's capital structure is then the composition or 'structure ' of its liabilities. Simply, capital structure refers to the mix of debt and equity used by a firm in financing its assets. The capital structure decision is one of the most important decisions made by financial management. The capital structure decision is at the center of many other decisions in the area of corporate finance. These include dividend policy, project financing, issue of long term securities, financing of mergers, buyouts and so on. One of the many objectives of
