The film, Embrace of the Serpent, was a beautifully crafted work of art. Everything from the cinematography, to the mise en scene supported the storyline in a very profound manner. The film combined a collection of authentic costume design, great acting, real sets, and a unique storyline in order to deliver a truly unmatched experience in the world of film. This writing will discuss some of the different aspects of film, and how those factors contributed to the film’s overall quality.
To begin, the film definitely did a great job of creating mood, and providing perspective to the viewer through mise en scene. Mise en scene is a term that refers to all of the visual components of a film. These visual elements can include things like props, costumes, and sets. The character by the name of Karamakate is a shaman who lives in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. Karamakate’s apparel in the film provides the

These white men are obsessed with their material possessions, and can’t think on the same level as the people of the Amazon. Karamakate, the main Amazonian man in the film, was constantly making fun of the white men for their “things.” He would constantly ask them why they cared so much for their things. They never really quite had a definite answer to his question. However, to the white men, the things that they carried around with them were more than just mere possessions. They were years of long, hard, research and accomplishment during their journeys. However, this film was not only entertaining, but also it played a role in evaluating my personal lifestyle. As I was viewing the film, I kept thinking about how my ways of thinking are so in tune with the white men in the film. It was interesting to see how different the different types of characters where when it came to this material possession concept, and how I personally fit on that
In the film “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” directed by Steven Spielberg, elements of mise en scene and cinematography are utilized narrative form to progress the story of Indiana Jones. A chain of events in a cause and effect relationship used in order to tell a story, the depth given to the main character by means of different sides of the protagonist’s life as well as discussing the settings and surroundings of events and actions of the film.
This shows us their side of this time. We can see and relate to how hard an average day of their live is. They wake up really early get their kids ready for the day, then they catch the bus to work, wake up and get the children of the white people ready for the day. Then they clean, do all the chores for them and just about anything else they tell them to do. Then after putting the white children to sleep they finally go home and put their own children to sleep. After they put their own children to sleep they clean and get their own house in order. They worked so hard and through this movie we go to see it in a different
a film. It is what the viewers sees, hears and experiences while watching a film. A film’s Mise en Scene subtly influences viewer’s mood as they watch a film, much like decor, lighting, smells and sounds can influence our emotional response to an actual place. In Film Art: An Introduction, Bordwell (2001), explained that in Mise en Scene, realism can be achieved by giving the settings an accurate and convincing look or letting actors express their emotions through performance as naturally as possible. This paper will discuss and analyse the significance of Mise en Scene in Wong Kar Wai’s In The Mood For Love
This movie in particular was three hours long, for most viewing a three hour film with speaking is draining. Seeing that I could barely endure my focus on what was being shown. I decided to divide the movie up into three days for an hour. For those days I took notes and really analyzed what I thought was wrong and miss told. In the movie the embellishments about Africa Americans was misguiding. The beginning of the second half, the whites were holding up signs stating they wanted “Equal rights, equal politics and equal marriages.” Realistically speaking, we all know that was not the case. For the most part whites only wanted that for themselves not for the whole community. The way that Griffith tried to reveal whites was in a way that said they were in favor for equal rights for all. That they were the “helpless white minority.” And to be quite honest I think that’s pushing it.
It’s a horrible feeling to lose someone you love. In the story The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner the main character Dill has to learn how to adjust to a new life. He lost his father and is now taking care of his mother, he worked, went to school and is still worrying about his mother. Luckily he had some friends who helped him through it all. It is very hard to lose everything and then have to learn to live without everything you had, but Dill somehow makes it through. In this essay you’ll learn that what happens in other people’s lives may actually affect what happens in yours.
After watching this movie, it gave me an appreciation of where I am from and all ancestors before me. This is definitely a movie that I recommend every black person watch. The movie was well written.
One of the most important components in the movie is aesthetic. The reason is aesthetic that can create atmosphere and mood. Especially, one of the most famous Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai, who direct In the mood for Love (2000) put many elements in Aesthetic such as mise en scene, sounds, editing and the cinematography. Aesthetic is an essential factor to construct a character, and create mood. Especially Wong Kar Wai has unique aesthetic to elicit emotion. “” Those components can bring audiences into the movie. In this essay, I will argue that the subject of heartrending but romantic narrative has been depicted through the four components which are mise en scene, cinematography, editing and sound. This will be done by analyzing every scene, followed by analyzing each element of the film aesthetic.
Instead they said it was simply a love story.” (Boykin) The film humanized the men and told of the pain that led them to their deception. “But similarly, situated black men are rarely so humanized. Instead, they are depicted unsympathetically as purveyors of disease and deception.” (Boykin)
Why was it so important for the POC in the film to be understood by white men in the group? Briefly discuss any experiences you have had which would confirm or contend with this felt need.
In the film, African Americans were being sold for their unique genetic makeup. After watching this film, I am more aware about the people I am friends with , preferabbly my white friends. Jordan Peele did a remarkable job on this
This movie did an excellent job portraying the time era in which the Civil War was taken place and depicts the emotions and pressures of war. The movie helped me to visual that time period in a better sense and to see the perspective of African American soldiers fighting in the Civil War. The movie showed a lot more in depth and personal feelings of the black soldiers during that time period. The movie portrayed what the black soldiers had to deal with as soldiers of the Union and it helped me to visual what I learned about the black regiments during the civil war. The film even showed the soldiers having to do manual labor and lute the southern towns and cities. It also showed how even though the black soldiers were on the same side as the white soldiers of the Union, the black soldiers were still treated as unequal and faced prejudice daily by the other white soldiers. It also showed the strong belief of many of the white Union soldiers that they fought for emancipation and the freedom of the
Jack Henry Abbott was born on January 21, 1944, on a military base in Oscoda, Michigan. Growing up in foster care and living in the under the state laws his whole life Jack Abbot didn't have much of a chance for a normal life. From the time that he was born he was living in the state foster care system. After a short while he was in trouble with the law. As an adolescent he was living in the state juvenile detention center. Jack would be punished because he was just that sort of kid. Due to the fact that everyone knew his past he was punished his whole life. Abbott first was sent to the boys' school because of failure to conform to the foster care home and systems. When he was first sent to prison it was because he had insufficient
The movie did a great job in recreating the scene on people suffering the social and economic tension because of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl that took place on Joads family. I also believe focusing on one family made us relate and share their emotions. The movie did a great job in showing the struggle of that family which represented what many tenant farmers had faced during that crisis. The crisis included the oppression the tenant farmers faced by the banks and farm interests. Because of the Dust Bowl populated families from Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas were being forced to move from their farmland to California for jobs. The movie also shares the social message of the importance of a family which is shown when Joad comes back home looking for his grandparents. It further shows the message of the ineffective American Dream where everyone should get the same opportunity to attain success. I think the message was strong enough to convey the social messages portrayed in the film. I was able to reconnect what I learned in history as I watched the movie. I liked how the ending of the movie was hopeful. Towards the end the movie shows the migrant trucks move to the
Even though the film was meant to funny, it did make me think about different cultural preduice and obstacles interacial relationships may face. Over all I enjoyed the film it poked fun at racial prejudice and brought some good topics to the table. However, I wish they would have take the opportunity to have gone deeper into racism and brought it out into the open for people to
In the light of, the director makes good points through the whole movie about what they went through. I like this movie because it gives me more information of the people who were involved or who were there during that time. Like, Ann Lee Coper (Oprah Winfrey), Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo), and the rest of the people who help fight for African Americans to be able to vote. The movie also shows the difficult and the happy time they went through. Even the problems with their family. No matter what’s going on, they were still focus and full invested in having freedom. What I learned from this movie was that they did not let all the obstacles of what they went through mess up their main goal because of that I am able to take those lesson for my
