Faith
What is faith? According to Oxford Dictionaries faith is the complete trust in something or someone. But faith is more than simply just that. Faith is a strong conviction that cannot be broken, it is the belief in something with no tangible evidence. Faith is devotion and endless confidence that there is a higher power and an afterlife. It is not something you are born with; it is something you work for. Faith takes time and patience, in not only oneself but a higher power. It is the most important aspect of developing and maintaining a healthy Christian Lifestyle. It strengthens one’s relationship with God, and how one sees the world. Faith is portrayed throughout the Bible, however, it is depicted differently in the Old and New Testament. The definition of faith and how it was shown changes from the Old to New Testament; the Old Testament has an explicit and precise definition, while the New Testament has a more open and honest way of looking at things.
What did faith mean to the Jews? As time has evolved so have people’s definition of faith. According to the Old Testament, there is no clear definition of faith, the closest word used comes from the Hebrew root aman, this means ‘Amen’, which translate to ‘honest’ or ‘dependable,’ this word, however, has the same general meaning as the word ‘faith’.
