Emma Henderson yawned and rubbed her eyes as she stepped off the plane at Leonardo Da Vinci airport in Rome. Her vision was still a little fuzzy from leaving her contacts in during the flight. She hoisted her backpack onto her shoulder, and let out a sigh of relief as she walked down the airbridge that lead to the airport. There was nothing she hated more than airplanes, and she hadn’t been able to sleep at all during the eight hour flight from the U.S. Every time she began to drift off, the little kid behind her would jam his feet into the back of her seat, or the lady in the row across from her would rattle off yet another loud complaint. She was definitely glad it was over. “Well aren’t you bright eyed and bushy tailed,” a voice said from …show more content…
He looked up and gave her a little wave as he rose from the grass She had almost reached him when something slammed into her back, sending her sprawling to the ground. Her notebook went flying, and she heard Damon begin to call her name when his voice abruptly cut off by a thundering boom! The sound was immediately followed by a deafening roar that shook the ground beneath her. She painfully raised herself up onto an elbow, and used her other hand to feel around her for rock or something she could use to defend herself. Her vision had gone completely blurry, and her desperation rose as nothing but gritty sand slipped through her fingers. “Damon!” she cried as her vision began to clear. She thought maybe she heard a faint shout, but she couldn't be sure with all the noise. Finally, the ground beneath her came into focus, and the roaring suddenly stopped, leaving a ringing silence in it's wake. Emma was afraid to look up, and stared in confusion as the sand beneath her fingers. There hadn’t been any sand when she and Damon got there, only grass and gravel. She slowly raised her head, and gasped in horror. It was as if she had been ripped out of her time period and thrown into an alternate

Emma Woodhouse, who begins the novel "handsome, clever, and rich, with a comfortable home and a happy disposition" (Austen 1), suffers from a dangerous propensity to play matchmaker, diving into other’s lives, for what she believes is their own good. Despite this, she is a sympathetic character. Her matchmaking leads only to near-disasters and her expressions of remorse following these mistakes are sincere and resolute. Jane Austen's Emma concerns the social milieu of a sympathetic, but flawed young woman whose self-delusion regarding her flaws is gradually erased through a series of comic and ironic events.
It was almost 4am and we had slept in the cold LAX airport on black and while marble floor. Very comfortable and accommodating. At this point a cardboard box on a heating grate in New York would be the Ritz Carlton. Jamie and I stared at each other coldly, hating each other, damp sweat and anxiety poured over us. Silence. We just want to get out of here. "This sucks." Was a common response to our deliriously back and forth conversation as we tried to keep our spirits up.
For a minute it seemed like things had gone back to normal on the jet. People were shocked, a few reached into the aisle or around their feet to recover cell phones, and other possessions.Up near the galley between economy and business classes, an Asian doctor crouched over the steward who’d hit the ceiling and cricked her neck. But as air rushed noisily past the fuselage, the passengers were unsettled by intermittent shudders ripping through the airframe. The pilots couldn’t devote their time to staring out the side of the aircraft, so the stewards passed through the plane asking passengers in the window seats to look outside for anything unusual. De'aaron watched as his grandmother touched a stewardess, who stopped walking and turned

My suitcase dragged against the tile behind me as I strolled passed the mammoth glass walls of L’Aeroport de Bordeaux. I clutched my purse with my trembling fist, my nerves getting the best of me.
