Writing takes an enormous part in our daily life: it represents in many occupations; it assists the communication and thinking skills; more importantly, it is a tool that helps us to refine, but at the same time explain our ideas. Knowing that, two months ago, I decided to register for an English class, with a pretension of advancing my writing plus reading skills. However, what I accomplished from the ENG1101 is beyond my expectation. Not only did it bring me numerous of valuable experience, but it also helped me prepare for my upcoming courses and future. One out of many lessons that I have learnt in ENG1101 is planning on my strategies of preparation and editing. First of all, I would sketch a draft on what I need to demonstrate; then I would add more ideas to the draft and start writing; finally, I would …show more content…
For the “Academic Voice” essay, which is also my first attempt of academic writing, I wrote about the different beauty modifications across “diverse time and cultures.” I created a “strong and consistent” structure, provided plenty of information that strongly support the thesis. However, the essay was not presented in the MLA style and some verbs were not correctly used. So I put my effort on the next assignment, which is the “Argument Construction” paper. My only intension was to convinced the readers that we need to put an end to the mistreatments and discrimination that society have put on women. I did a good job on supporting my idea, as well as following the MLA formatting as well as documentation rules. Still I did not come up with an “original title” or a well-developed conclusion. Which means that the “Research in Discipline” essay is my last chance to raise my grade, but also to determine my future pathway to success in clinical
When I first entered english composition 1101, I expected this course to be manageable. As an outstanding english student at Clarke Central high school, I believed that I had enough knowledge to excel in this course with no challenges. Dr. Catherine Rogers was able to knock me off of my high horse and make me realize that I has a lot more to learn about reading and writing. She is very comprehensive and analytical, which caused her to give me a c average on my midterm assignments. I put the blame on myself because I believe that I should have been more open to Dr. Rogers’ methods with pre-writing and revision. Now I think highly of reading and writing.
It is still so surreal to reflect back on my first semester as an incoming college student in the ENC1101 course, analyzing at my progression as a reader and writer in literacy. Since the first day of class I set in stone my goals for this class: receive a 4.0 GPA, develop my connecting theories skills in writing, and become more aware of objectives for each Unit throughout the course. All of these goals became achievements that not only make others proud but most importantly give me self pride. In order to earn the grades and achieve these goals, I went after every opportunity that I was given as an incoming college student, such as office hours and extra credit. By taking this course I have gained confidence with the utilization of literacy, and made an addition to my group of impactful literacy sponsors. Once students are finished with high school they assume that there is nothing else to learn beyond the stereotypical five paragraph essay, but they are so wrong. I was able to obtain so much knowledge about numerous course concepts from Writing about Writing, articles, and my professor. These concepts will carry on with me throughout a bright future of writing courses, job interviews, and any other skills that require literacy. The four outcomes listed below will help illuminate how I improved as a writer, by being a driven college student and going out of the way to earn my achievements in this course. In the first outcome I improved comprehending scholar texts,
I immensely struggled when writing. Taking my scrambled thoughts and uncoordinated analysis and converting it into clean and understandable words on a page was arduous. I could not express my thoughts in proper academic format. I understood the importance of writing to every subject. It was essential that I learn to condense my ideas and feeling into coherent written word. After much debate, I decided that the best way to improve my writing skills was to take an advanced English course.
With the anxiety flowing throughout my body, I knew the time was near of facing my English 1301 class. Being told that I needed to improve my writing during my grade school days, I knew that I didn’t feel at ease going into a college level English class. But, with this in mind I had to pull myself together to encounter the challenges that I will face. However, having the privilege of having an amazing professor I believe my writing skills improved, also I was able to find my confidence.
Looking back at the first couple days in ENC 1101 I was absolutely overwhelmed and stressed about the amount of essay’s that were going to be done. I looked at the syllabus which provided all the work that was going to be done and I wanted to jump of a bridge. Not being fully prepared in high school didn’t help me with my panic. I truly felt in the beginning that it was going to be too hard and I was not going to make it. Through the class I learned many things, the first paper was a minor headache but it really helped me with thoughts, how an essay supposed to flow, and the style of a paper. Once I received a grade for the first paper, I was actually stunned and motivated. Being on the right track opened up my mind and I felt confident going

Before I began this course I thought that I was a really good writer and that I would strive in ENC 1101 with ease. I assumed this because I was always getting good grades in my previous English courses in high school. Most of my papers in high school I had got a high B or an A. But I got a big awakening when I turned in my first paper in ENC 1101. This is because I had assumed that I was going to get a good grade because I thought I had answered all the things that were listed on the rubric that you handed us. When I received my first paper back I was on the borderline tears that I had got a C. At first I did not understand what I had did wrong. After going back and looking at my teacher's comments I realized that I needed to provided more
Starting my ENG101 class, I felt like it was the basics of learning grammar and English material from high school. However, I quickly learned that I needed to brush-up on some of my writing skills. I acquired skills of the past, as well as some new ones. Writing may still be slightly confusing to me when using correct punctuation, run-on sentences, and organizing my thoughts. Learning to use an outline, create a topic to answer questions, and brainstorming has taught me to become a better writer.
Going into ENG 102 I aim to challenge myself as a writer and an online learner. Having never taken an online class at Stout before, I look forward to this new experience. By taking ENG 102 online I would like to improve my time management skills, by having the freedom to take ENG 102 while I also take a speech class this semester is important to me. While I enjoy writing, my greatest weaknesses are spelling and grammar. By improving my weaknesses, I plan to develop a more professional writing style, along with expending my vocabulary. Throughout high school, I greatly enjoyed reading, and discussions, that come along with analyzing literary works. Two of my favorite authors are Donna Tratt and Willa Cather, I look forward to learning with

Throughout this semester in English 101, I have made a significant improvement on multiple things, including how to be an exceptional writer and thinker. You can express yourself more efficiently in English than you can in any other subject. This class has truly made me a more confident writer and helped me express myself in different ways through the different types of papers I wrote. By writing different types of papers I have improved multiple areas of my writing. I have grown as a student in diverse areas such
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there’s always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
My experience into English 111 not only left me anxious, it became a self-revelation. My learning capabilities were challenged because writing did not come natural and the possibility of becoming a prominent writer were going to take a lot of time, effort and hard work. In spite of not knowing what to expect, I entered into this new semester pumped up carrying an “I can do this” attitude and feeling confident.
In writing it’s important to have an understanding of what you’re trying to convey for your audience in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again, analyzing one’s audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when choosing the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as the reader. In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this online English course. Each writing assignment
