English isn't one of my favorite subjects, but it was interesting to learn much more about English through this course. This course, overall, taught me about how to organize my ideas and the importance of clicking the button that checks one's spelling on the paper. Even though, I improved throughout my time in this course in my organization and expressing my ideas. I still have some mistakes to improve on in my writing. English 101 showed the importance of writing and the ability to express my ideas throughout my academic career.
This course started off by assigning us with a diagnostic essay to allow to show how each student wrote at the beginning of the course. When I look back at that, there were several problems of how I expressed my ideas, how I organized my paper, and how I used poor word choices. After that, this course took of from there, we started many more essays throughout the semester. My fingers are still are numb from all the typing I have done and the stress when I forgot a paper was due. However, this course was great in evaluating and conductively criticizing students on their

For myself, putting an idea down on paper is hard. At the start, I had words and idea everywhere, there wasn't a concise format that I stayed to in my papers. The organization in my argumentative paper, showed that as I created my paragraphs based on my points and didn't put any other irrelevant information in the paragraphs. My ability to express my ideas through my writing improved. For example, in my Smithsonian paper, I used the vast information that I found through the museum and my sources to evaluate climate change and it's impending impact. The paper informed the readers about climate change and its affect on marine life. These are some improvements in my writing; however, I hope to keep improving throughout my academic
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there’s always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
I am also a nursing major. It is stressful thinking about getting into the program isn’t it? It is extremely competitive! My interest in nursing is geared towards the pediatric side. Good luck to you!
I like don’t want to write papers. Sentences like that were sometimes what I would produce in writing high school and college essays. Sometimes it was due to not having a clear thought process and a wondering mind, not doing a good job of proof reading my work, and more recently because of technology. With the help of spell check, technology plays a small part in how effective pieces of work become. The ability to cut, paste, and move sentences around in your paper without having to retype minimizes the burden on all writers. After having to take an Introduction to Writing class again, it has helped me to re-learn the mistakes I used to make. Mistakes like correctness faults, grammatical errors, and proof reading before submitting my work.
This page is one of my favorites as I love to read. Most of my high school career I was given the privilege of being able to choose my own books to read for school. As a result, I enjoyed many of the assignments given to me in regard to the novels I chose. This page highlights some of the projects I completed for my independent novels. The first two projects were completed during my Junior year in Honors English 11. The other two were done for AP English my Senior year.
This 3rd writing project has been the easiest of them all. This project was the one with the least amount of time given, but even under those circumstances I personally excelled. Before I wrote this paper, choosing a topic was sort of difficult because I wasn’t too involved at UNLV. I went to some friends and asked them about their struggles at school. I also looked at my own life to see if there were any problems I had encountered on campus. An issue didn’t quickly pop up. The problem I used came to me when I was in my Geology class. I had been looking around when suddenly I spot a student sleeping. I like to acknowledge that this class is in a lecture hall with a total of 150 students. From there I continued to analyze this issue. When
I am slightly taken aback by your comment: "I did not think it was of a high enough standard for us to be able to accept you on the Access course."
When August rolled around the corner I started to get nervous and excited about taking ENGL 102 Research Writing, nervous because writing isn’t my strong point and excited because it would mean learning something new. I have heard the horror stories from other students about writing ten page papers and couldn’t fathom the idea of having to write about one topic for ten pages long. I remember when I first looked at the syllabus and felt quite over-whelmed. After about a month into the class I realized it wasn’t so bad after all, and really started to understand the whole concept of writing based off of research. Through exercises, reading, and discussion boards it was all starting to make sense.
English composition has taught me everything I know now, from how to effectively write a thesis to grammatically fix my essay. This class fixed my writing skills to speak and write incorrect terms. English composition gave me the edge I need to take my writing skills to next level. This class has helped me understand the importance of documentation in a research skill. English composition showed me that sources either make or break your essay. The true honesty of this course was that I am glad I took it. At first, I hate this class so much, because this class required so much extra work to be done, but over time I realized that the extra work really pushes you over the edge to make your essay great. The extra work justifies your essay and molds
Taking English classes favor a lot of students, especially those whose native language is not English. It is proven that international students who study English in an American school learn more much grammar and writing skills than Americans themselves. It is just the fact in every language. For example, I am from Saudi Arabia and my native language is Arabic: if I was asked to write a formal essay in Arabic I would not be able to write it. The reason that I don’t have the eagerness because I feel it is my first language and I don’t need to learn about my language’s grammar or writing skills. This applies to many native speakers. However, I am very interested in English language since I was 16 years old. Coming to the United Stated pursuing a bachelor degree requires very professional English skills, most importantly, Writing skills. I am taking WAC. 107 course for this fall 2016 semester: this course has evolved my skills in writing, grammar -mistakes-free-, and a lot more. I would mention in my essay the very important lessons I have learned in this course including- but not excluding – the change in my critical thinking, the course objectives that I have reached, the lessons and activities that were the most useful to me, and the changes that I would make for this semester.
In tenth grade, everyone in Mrs. D’s English class had to write an essay on an American author. No one was actually given a choice in the matter, nor was anyone allowed the option of choosing their author. That kind of option wouldn’t have meant much to me anyway, seeing as I, like many sophomores in high school, had no interest in anything even remotely intellectual. Fate’s ubiquitous hand dealt me Sherwood Anderson, a man I had never heard of (nor did I frankly care to know about). Despite the cliché one might expect at this point, research did nothing to change my apathy towards this essay. I wrote down the standard encyclopedic style biography that defined the efforts of most of my fellow classmates. After all of us were through
In the second semester of Freshman English, I have progressed as a reader, and as a writer. Over the four units that we did over the semester, there were multiple sessions in each that helped me grow as a reader and writer. These sessions have taught me to do things that I did not know how to do before.
The reason I took English 101 was to learn how to write a paper more effectively and understand the process in order to prep me for college. While I feel as my writing skills have considerably improved, my individual papers still have a lot of room for improvement. Through the many papers assigned, I have gained knowledge about the writing process, and with this brings a lot potential for my future years. The groundwork for a great paper has been laid because of this class, and all that is left to do is to keep practicing.
Introspection is an important activity that adults should take time to do. I find myself thinking more about the world and others than I do about myself. This activity is beneficial as it helped me do some self-reflection prior to taking any assessments to confirm or reveal who I am.
I'm a junior here at Canby High School and my previous class experience in English has improved quite a bit since freshman year. English has always been the type of class that I was afraid of because I was not that good at writing essays. With the help of the wonderful English teachers here that have challenged me to try different methods of writing, there has been a significant improvement in my essay writing since middle school. I've grown to appreciate English class and in some cases even look forward to it. The goals I have set up for British Literature A this trimester are for me to improve my study habits, put more thought into my work instead of rushing it, and learn how to comfortably engage in discussions with peers.
Throughout junior year of high school, I always wondered why English was my worst subject. I thought to myself, “How can someone, whose first and only language they speak and know, be so horrible at it?” I could easily find the solution of a composed function in my math class, yet I had a difficult time matching words to their definition when the answer was literally right there. I was in a classroom filled with many peers who were at the top of the class as well as prospects for Ivy League schools, if not recognizable universities. Although I spoke to many of them, I was always nervous when they would read my essays in peer reviews. I felt I was too dumb, especially in English Literature.
