At the start of English 1301, I considered myself a writing novice with a few strengths. The assignments in this class have shown me that I’m a better writer than I initially thought. The assignments have where I have improved, areas where I still need to improve, and how skills developed here can transfer into other courses. The assignments in this class have allowed me to improve a great deal from where I began. Firstly, the assignments have taught me to properly cite my sources using MLA format, something I wasn’t familiar with before. In addition to this, analyzing the texts given allowed me to realize that rhetorical choices are everywhere and aren’t useless as I thought before. I can now locate rhetorical choices in newspaper ads
When I started this class, I never thought I was a “good” writer. Ironically, after this class, I have learned how to be an organized writer and the term “good” is extremely unclear and subjective. From the short stories and questions to the individual essays, each assignment helped me practice and develop my writing skills. Overall, I think my writing has improved and the process of writing, something I often over looked, has immensely helped my writing.
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
My final thoughts towards English 1301 would probably be described in one word which would be awesome; from what I learned in class will help me out towards my path to the future I understand that I still have some errors as I write essays or journals; but I will like to believe that I will get better as I stay in English and I work more on my dents that I have.
With the anxiety flowing throughout my body, I knew the time was near of facing my English 1301 class. Being told that I needed to improve my writing during my grade school days, I knew that I didn’t feel at ease going into a college level English class. But, with this in mind I had to pull myself together to encounter the challenges that I will face. However, having the privilege of having an amazing professor I believe my writing skills improved, also I was able to find my confidence.
A successful English 1301 student is not just one who has passing grades, but one who does all their task wisely. When i first started English comp 1301 i thought i was going to breeze through it without a problem, but i was wrong. The class proved to be a challenge that required a great deal from me. It required time-management, determination, flexibility, focus, priorities, communication and engagement. Although I did great at demonstrating some of the traits, there were some that i did not excel at, and for that I paid the price.
My experience in summer school, English 1302, allowed me to strengthen my writing skills by applying them to essays and real life. English 1302 taught me many useful writing techniques like the proper MLA format, how to cite excerpts throughout an essay, and how to avoid grammar mistakes. In this fast paced class we did a total of three major essays, my strongest most effective essay was, the proposal. Since I was not used to writing proposals I found it difficult to begin, but with the help of Mrs. Kane and the handy everything’s an agreement textbook I was able to deliver my essay effectively. I improved most when Mrs. Kane explained how to properly deliver this essay with the correct MLA formatting, reading the text book, and drafting/revising.
During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn’t comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in the last two years of highschool english.
At the start of this course, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a goal for myself to improve and learn skills that would make writing less daunting for me. I have learned so many things about my writing that I didn’t think much about before. Another goal I had was to break the cookie-cutter mold that was set upon me throughout high school. During the process of revision, I discovered many things about myself as a writer and techniques that have been effective for me in the writing process.
My attitude going into English 1301 was excitement at first. When I was in high school I took English and when I would turn in my essays I would get an "A" on every essay. The second week of English 1301 was when my instructor assigned me my first essay. This essay was to explain my composing process. At first I had no idea that I even had a process for composing an essay. I had never really thought about it. Then the instructor said that it had to be in APA format, 12 point font, and Times New Roman. This was all very new to me because in high school my teacher did not require me to do this. Throughout this essay you will see the changes of my composing process, the impact this class has had on me, and how I feel about my improvement. My composing process changed throughout the semester because I felt that my old process was not good enough. Therefore, I decided to walk into my house one day and sit down and begin to do homework. In doing this I paid close attention to every step I took from beginning to the end of my essay. A few things that I have added into my composing process was an outline and going to a public area where no one knows me or wants to talk to me. Throughout this course, I have realized that if I am around other students that are working on homework, I am able to buckle down and get my work done too. However, if I am in a public area such as the Student Center at TSTC, I am unable to focus because people come up to me and start talking to me which takes
While taking taking English 1302 with prof. Innis, i learned so much stuff that was useful to me in college. Every student should be able to say a few things they have learned from a class after they finished with it, and that's what I am here to do today. During this class period i learned how to manage time, stop procrastinating a lot, and finally i learned to become a better writer. All of these improvement made me a better student, and I am grateful for it.
In this course, I enhanced my reading and writing skills. Reading and analyzing stories allowed me to become a better critical thinker. Beside, Learning to review and identify errors with the help of my peers and my instructor improved the quality of my writing. Also, I gained valuable practice in evaluating the credibility of sources that I would include in my writing. Finally, I also want to thank this class since I become more confident in my writing and my reading abilities
Over the past eight weeks, this course has required me to write more academic prose than I have at any time outside of high school. While my job has required writing long documents, they are almost always persuasive or technical documents. I now reflect on my daily reading and writing in a different way as a result of this class. I can see how I have grown even from the first week to today. In each of the assignments below I can see my own growth and learning.
As a GSW 1110 College Credit Plus student through Bowling Green State University, I have learned many valuable skills throughout my writing career. I was introduced to many new writing styles, which helped me grow as a writer. I found myself getting frustrated when I was unsure of how to address some aspects of a paper, but after reviewing with my peers and instructor, I found that those task came naturally to me. I have learned how to effectively: find credible research, write to opposing audiences, write to a variety of genres, draft papers, dodge writing mechanics, and use critical thinking skills. Throughout my time as a College Credit Plus student, I have learned many tips and tricks which have all made me a more advanced writer and will all help me pass this class and future classes.
Throughout this course we have done many writing assignments. These assignments have helped us learn how to use certain tools to help improve our writing skills. After learning these tools, we should be able to analyze other work, write a clear and organized essay, apply our own experiences and also using research to support our essays. My writings throughout this course have come to show that I know how to use these tools to make my writing better and more effective.
When I started this class, I didn’t know much about poetry and story let alone creating my own. My relation with writing was mostly limited to science labs and research papers. Thursdays turn in were a challenge because I had to come up with a topic to write poems or stories. Today, I am proud of what I have accomplished. I was able to compose poems and stories that touched the readers’ heart. I have learned to enjoy writing and take it as a medium to express myself and share my stories. I was usually a reader but now I can write too.
