Motivation is the main power that drives us to take an action and achieve success in all aspects of our lives. Sometimes, one might have a desire to achieve certain goals, but if the desire and the ambition are not strong enough, one lacks that inner drive, the motivation to take the necessary actions. As a whole, motivation is affected by state of mind, personal background, the working environment and the expected outcome. These internal and external forces can either help or hinder people to stay motivated and direct their behavior toward a specific goal.

What is motivation? Motivation can be described as the ability of an individual to strive to do better no matter the situation. In a situation where an individual thinks he/she can’t take anymore, the motivated persons will be able to pull themselves together, stand up and move forward. This occurs in a motivated person due to the application of positive thinking and self believe.

Motivation is having a reason or reasons to act/behave in a particular way. It creates “drive” in people whether it is in pursuit of a goal, or the need to complete an activity. It produces enthusiasm and a willingness to achieve in both a work environment and in your personal life. Motivation can be increased and decreased in line with the incentives on offer.

What is motivation? Process that accounts for an individuals intensity, direction & persistence of effort towards attaining a goal.

Motivation is the desire or want to do things. It is the psychological reason behind wanting or achieving something. In our daily lives, motivation plays a key part in how we operate at work, at home, and even in our leisure activities. Without motivation we would have trouble getting tasks completed.

Motivation can be defined as the internal state of individual’s mind that enable individual and directs the behaviour of the individuals. Motivation makes the individual to do something. It is defined as the individual’s willingness to intensity efforts to achieve the goals.

Motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. Motivation is what causes us to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge. (Cherry, 2016) Motivation plays the role in everyday lives. Ones motivation to do something differs from ones feels and the type of motivation towards the action that is being done. By studying motivation, we learn what gives our behavior its purpose, direction and sustainability. (Bond & McConkey, 2001, p. 6.3).

Third grade students who are English Language Learners are struggling to understand lessons that are being taught in the classroom. The class has been assigned to do a book report over a country in a different continent of their choosing. The ELL students have started running into problems of understanding the task and how to find information, while the other students know that they will need to read books and look online to find research on their country. The few difficulties they have started coming across has discouraged them and they don’t want to do the book report anymore.

My interest in learning English is due to the fact that I have always liked to challenge myself. Even though many of my friends and family warned me from majoring in English, as it would be difficult for me, I have accepted the challenge. I have always felt that learning English would increase myself confidence and have people around me impressed. This interest has also grown through my passion in learning about languages, cultures, and traditions. Where I come from, Saudi Arabia, a big number of people came from different countries and spoke different languages.
