Understanding the importance of a family-school partnership is essential in order for school districts and families with children to grow and strive. If an imbalance occurs within any of the various parts that play a key role, difficulties will rise to the surface. Several of these roles include: communication, decision making, volunteering, and learning and parenting at home. All of these factors must work together in order to create a successful school environment in which children are able to learn and strive. When a school is successful in fulfilling each of these roles, there are several benefits. These benefits include: better positive attitudes toward school, higher achievements, better attendance, higher graduation rates, an increase in enrollment rates in post-secondary education, and overall better schools to attend (University of West Virginia).
I have been able to put the topics I learned about in classes to use, while gaining valuable experience, by working with children and students through my jobs. For the past two and a half years I have worked in a before and after school daycare program caring for children ranging from preschool to sixth grade. At the daycare, I am the lead associate for preschool aged children. As the lead associate, I care for an average of 30 preschoolers and supervise the staff that work with me. This involves planning and implementing activities for the children, communicating with teachers and parents in the school to coordinate
Throughout most of my adult life I have worked with children and families in different capacities and roles. Most recently, I worked with children and families in the role of school social worker in Jackson County Schools, GA for my graduate school field placement. All of my experience there involved working with children and families in some capacity, whether it was advocating for services for a family and student that needed them or being a liaison between the school and parents and making sure parents had the opportunities and understanding to be a part of their child's educational needs. I went on many home visits to talk with parents and met with students during school to assess any concerns teachers or administrators had. Prior to my

A great strategy for collaborating with the community is for the school to have a community day. Partners from around the community introduce themselves and provide information and assistance regarding academic, social, recreational, and health resources available to the families throughout the community. Community collaboration allows local businesses and nonprofit organizations to provide services to parents that advance student learning and overall wellness. Schools should invite community partners into the schools to participate in mentoring. Community service is a great strategy to foster student and parent participation. Providing support and learning opportunities for parents such as: GED classes, English language classes, and job training is a great strategy for collaboration with community partners. Parents and the communities should be made aware of activities and programs taking place inside of

Experiences cultivated by caring teachers and school staff members created an environment in which I was able to thrive as a child, and the ability to give back in the same way through my own work thus far has been equally as fulfilling. For these combined reasons of nostalgia, ambition, thankfulness and a yearning to be a positive influence, I am determined to secure a position at Simon Fraser's Professional Development Program.
In early childhood education, lessons should be prepared to meet children’s needs through the use exploratory play, guided discovery, problem solving, and critical thinking. I seek ways to differentiate instruction and provide different teaching styles to reach students of all abilities and intelligence. I believe that students in an early childhood setting should be exposed to social interaction, cooperative learning, hands-on experiences, and real-life applications. Early childhood classrooms should have plenty of books for children to get exposed to enriching texts and literacy at an early age. I believe that in early childhood settings, teachers need to teach about values learn honesty, kindness, cooperation, patience, and respect to be positive role models in society. I seek to develop close relationships with my students, and their families and provide an environment where they feel welcomed and
