Over the course of reading Tina Seelig’s book, participating in our class discussions, and writing weekly reflection papers, many of my perspectives and notions about entrepreneurship have either been substantially altered or reinforced. There are generally many misconceptions throughout society about the nature of entrepreneurship and the attitudes and value systems that those who seek to own businesses have. Many ill-informed people view entrepreneurship as something that is absolutely unattainable except for a lucky few with the intellectual giftedness and motivation to do it, and others believe that entrepreneurs are greedy pigs who merely exploit their workers and do very little work themselves. Even though there were many things in Seelig’s book that I personally took issue with, I do credit her with dispelling common myths about entrepreneurship. From her dissection of societal norms that often inhibit creativity and entrepreneurial thinking, her analysis of traits that most successful entrepreneurs have, and the cost and benefits of pursuing this endeavor in the first place, her book provided me with viewpoints that compelled me to say the least. Growing up, I had always been one who challenged whatever rules or constraints I was given. Starting in elementary school I was often incredibly insubordinate and questioned many things that I was told. I often wondered why school attendance was necessary, why we had to sit in desks all day, or why the curriculum was so

Entrepreneurship is a term that has reentered the public vernacular over the last few years, many times in reference to what is wrong with America but what it means is rarely defined. Furthermore, it is generally agreed that more Entrepreneurship is a desirable trait but how to go about encouraging it is again a point of contention. Mankind has thrived off of the dependability of ideas and the application of them for centuries. Moreover, humans have sustained healthy lives through developments and inventions that have improved the world around them. From the earliest Mesopotamian creation of the wheel to Apple’s recent release of the iPhone 7, groundbreaking revelations have perpetuated and molded human survival in some aspect. Anyone can generate an idea, but rather, it is the ability to transform that idea into a development that is valued by many--which is what makes being an entrepreneur remarkable. Entrepreneurs are some of the keenest, most creative, and passionate people that walk the earth.
The clip from Silicon Valley showed many entrepreneurs pitching their trivial products under the slogan that the products “will make the world a better place” and is “local, mobile, social”. These pitches essentially strung big words together in hopes that the investors will fund the products. This satirical portrayal of the entrepreneurs contributes to the conversations we had on the current climate of entrepreneurship and the goal of entrepreneurial ideas. As described in Avery Wiscomb’s article “The Entrepreneurship Racket”, many students and faculties are feeling the pressure of being entrepreneurs. Under this pressure, students develop ideas that are as trivial as those portrayed in the video and the contradiction between the slogans and
The belief and implementation of free markets and pro-business policies have allowed the American nation to become the strongest country in the world. The entrepreneur is a special type of business person that is hurt by the livable wage. Our nation’s economy is diverse and adaptable because entrepreneurs are always willing to take risks to make money and stay competitive. Entrepreneurs act as the catalysts for the American economy. They take the capital risks to create new products,
The encouragement and abundance of entrepreneur mentality is vital for any economy to achieve financial stability and capital growth. Entrepreneurship adds jobs to the economy and diversifies business by creating more companies and thus increasing competition. Business competition is necessary for an economy to be successful because it forces fair prices and employee rights. In “The Fastest-Growing Group of Entrepreneurs in America” Amy Haimerl presents the rising numbers of women entrepreneurs in America and the reasons why women are leaving corporate America.
From my upbringings inside my parents’ takeout restaurant to starting my own business, entrepreneurship was destined to not only be a scholastic interest but also my personal passion and life-long devotion. As I grew up watching my illiterate parents move to the United States and build their own small business, I learned the importance and value of engaged entrepreneurship. In high school, I began applying that knowledge in my own venture: an export company specializing in consumer discretionary. The experience fueled my love for entrepreneurship because it taught me how essential it is
This article talks about how it can be difficult to be an entrepreneur but it’s worth it. An entrepreneur is when one lives off their own business. Eades talks about how by starting your own business you can make a positive impact no matter the risk that exists of failing. The author mentions a few people that are well known that became very successful; for example, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Following their footsteps is very extreme; it can be a goal but it is something

The purpose of writing this report is to show how much I have learned and experience from enrolling in BBA 220. It is also include the impression and my personal reflection about the unit itself, and also the reflection about group project. Before I start this unit, I do not understand much about entrepreneur and entrepreneurship at all. I just know that people who do business are businessmen. Taking this entrepreneur course has been the best thing I could do for myself. Not only did it grow my mindset, but it taught me how to focus and concentrate on meeting my goals. At the beginning of this semester I could not let go the negative self-image I had of myself. Since I have been able to reflect on who I am I am slowly able to let go of that past image. I now know that I am more than able to reach my goals with the proper mindset and skills. I have come a long way since the beginning of this course. At the beginning of this course we were asked what is most important in life, and when I chose myself I knew after that reflections that I was off to a great start. Putting myself first these last few months has been the best thing I
Entrepreneurs are the flavour of the year and today everyone is either one or on the way to becoming one. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur is the new black. In fact those of us who are 30 plus would still remember that just two to three decades back, being an entrepreneur, especially if you were male, meant that you were either morally bankrupt or worse stupid, and either of which, by-the-way, substantially brought down your value in the marriage market.
