Mariel Garza wrote an article about the destruction of Donald Trump’s star in Hollywood. Garza has recently been working, as a writer for the LA Times. Beforehand she was an opinion editor for the Los Angeles News Group. But way before that she was working for the Daily News. Once she finished working for the Los Angeles News Group she moved her way to become a deputy opinion editor for Dan Morain at the Sacramento Bee. To start off her opinion about the topic she wanted to state that the editors of the LA Times do not tolerate violence or anything of that sorts, but she went on to claim that she was impressed about the actions that had occurred. When I read that, I could not help but laugh. Just the thought of someone who went out of their way to destroy a piece of material with a name on it is quite funny. Also the fact that Garza started the piece with her tone being professional and teacher like, then turned around and have the mood change from a dull grey to a light hearted yellow. As an audience member reading this I was pleased to see something like that, especially in the beginning of the piece. …show more content…
I would hear and see the many pictures of the infamous star but I never knew the face or at least the name behind this destruction, until Garza mentioned it in her piece. Garza was able to bring Otis’ (the destructor) reasoning to the destruction to light. Without this vital information I would not be able to know why Otis did what he did. He went through all of this trouble to auction off the star to give to the women who claimed that Trump sexually assaulted her. While reading I could tell that Garza’s heart went out to the guy, and so did mine. He was trying to do something good for a woman who deserves to be heard instead of being hushed by Trump and all of his higher power friends with lots of
The Revolutionary war, sparked by the colonist's anger towards taxation without representation, was a conflict between the United States and its mother country Great Britain. This event had been considered the most significant event in the American history. It separated the thirteen colonies from the tyrannical ruling of King George. The revolutionary war was not a big war, "The military conflict was, by the standards of later wars, a relatively modest one. Battle deaths on the American side totaled fewer than 5,000"1. However, the war proved that the thirteen colonies were capable of defeating the powerful Great Britain. Over the years there were many Hollywood films made based on the revolutionary
Once the reader gets to the last part of the story, they realize that there’s something wrong. Every time the narrator watches the tape, he pauses it and stares at the terrorized faces of the witnesses. The narrator made the people “witness something deeply tragic.” (Godsave 199). He also “made them long for everything to be right again with the world.” (Godsave 199). A deeper look at this can provide readers with a feeling of unease. They realize that the narrator wants to have control over people. For this reason, he watches the video repetitively, but only pauses at the moment when he had control over people’s emotions and made them feel true terror. Another part of the video that the narrator mentions is what he yelled as he shot Lasalle. He recalls, “I had to improvise, to think of what I might say if I actually did want to shoot Lasalle.” (Godsave 198). The word “did” is the only word in the whole work that is italicised. This is because the narrator has actually thought about killing Lasalle. He knows what he would say because this is not the first time he has thought about doing it. This is not something everyone does. Overall, the narrator shows signs that he may be on the verge of being a
Even though a vast majority of us wish that it was possible to turn back the hands of time and change or rewrite history. However, the truth of the matter is that we simply cannot. Everything happens for a reason, and we should learn to accept it. Accept it for what it is, rather than what we would like it to be.
In an attempt to appeal to the audience’s emotion, Brown presents information that influences the audience on an emotional level and helps them connect with the article from a personal aspect. Stating what was seen upon finding the women, Brown writes, “Both Patterson and Brown had their throats slit; the other bodies were in too advanced a state of decomposition to determine the cause of death, though the coroner often suspected asphyxia. The victims were mired in poverty and mental illness; and all had hustled Jennings’ south side streets for drugs and sex.” After reading this it creates a graphic image in the readers mind and allows the reader to be able to imagine what it would feel like to walk in the room and picture people with their throats slit. By visualizing what’s going on in this specific part of the article the reader can then imagine themselves or someone they love being in that same position. Another instance that appeals to the readers emotions is when in an interview with witness, Jerry Jackson, Brown
Film makers use many historical events to spark up and idea for a movie. One historical event that is commonly used is war. One advantage a film maker has when using war as a movie plot is that there is already a lot of drama in war. This may seem like a good advantage for the film maker, however focusing on all of the drama of war leaves much of the actual info. When watching a war movie, you may feel like you have an understanding about the war, but when you really compare a war movie to an actual war you find that there is a lot of factual information left out. One may ask why would directors and film makers leave out the facts of war and focus on the drama? After reading The Faces of Battle by John Keegan and reviewing war movies
For my arcival project I chose to research the Hollywood Ten, I chose this because I am fascinated by the events of that occurred around this time and group. The Hollywood Ten was a group of writers, directors, and other artists who bravely refused to answer questions in front of the House of Un-American Activities and were therefore sentenced to jail time and banned from working in Hollywood. The actions of that the House of Un-American Activities and the resistance of the Hollywood Ten raised attention and a debate across the country about the actions that the government was taking against Hollywood artists.
A celebrity is not a person known for his/her talent or achievement, but an individual recognized for his/her reputation created by the media. The phase of stardom is slippery, and media may choose to represent celebrities varying from exaggerated admiration to mockery. The three texts chosen, movie "Sunset Boulevard", feature article "Over the Hilton" and television show "Celebrity Uncensored Six" are texts presenting different perception of celebrities than their usual images - either corrupted by the encircling media, overloads oneself with self-indulgence, or just mocks celebrity in a broad spectrum. Such media items empower and impresses the audience by perceiving celebrities as people who pay the price of privacy to gain well
Mayor, Darrell Steinberg’s were also utilized, giving a perspective of how the community is processing. "Emotions are understandably high. People are anguished," he said. "I understand it and we understand it. I urge our community to remain peaceful." The article also lacked a clear side on the issue leaving to reader to absorb the information and gather an opinion, this
Now more than ever, we are susceptible to the influence of these atrocities and we choose to let them over power the glimmer of dignity that those with morals cling to. This became exceptionally clear to me when on the way to church camp, our driver began to sing along to one of these over-sexed songs. There's nothing quite like hearing the woman who would later lead your Bible study wailing "blow my whistle" to open your eyes to societal ruin. With the ideas and behaviors hinted at in movies, music, and television filling the gaping holes where the traditional values of previous generations once solidly stood, it's implausible to honestly say that there is nothing wrong with state of humanity.
The "star system" was a method of developing and advancing the popularity of Hollywood movie stars. The system, which began during the height of the Hollywood studio system era, emphasized the image of the actor instead on the actual acting. The movie studio's profits were driven by the popularity of the stars that appeared in their films. According to Rocco, the stars had long term contracts with the movie studios that paid them a weekly salary, and the stars were identified with specific types of characters that would often be repeated in many movies. Belton stated that "the star provides the studio with a tangible attraction, an image that can be advertized and marketed, offsetting the less tangible qualities of the story, directing,
Hollywood has influenced American history since it began. It boosted and shaped the morale of a nation for almost a century. But Hollywood has not only been the influencing American society, it has been influenced by American society. In the 1920s, American society was booming; people were getting rich, spending and borrowing money, and they thought life was looking good. Then in October of 1929 the stock market crashed. Many people lost all they owned. People had invested all their money into the banks before the Crash. After the Crash, the banks had nothing. People were destitute. They had no money to pay for their houses, electrical bills, and food. It became the Great Depression. Likewise, Hollywood was impacted by the Great

The movie I chose to watch is Courageous. The precipitating event in this movie is the car accident that takes the life of Emily Mitchell. Her father, Adam Mitchell, and the rest of her family are traumatized by the sudden death of their 9 year old daughter/sister. In thinking about information that would be gained in the first contact with Adam Mitchell, one thing that stands out about his previous state of mind/functioning is that he was somewhat uninvolved with his children, taking them for granted. This fact can also be a trigger for how he processes this event, causing a crisis for him as he realized his
Michael Jackson, the King of Pop would not be who he is today without his inspirations, James Brown and Jackie Wilson (Taraborrelli, 2). James Brown, the godfather of soul, emphasized the genre of soul and the formation of a new music style called funk. He was a well-known singer, dancer, composer and performer. In his songs, he focused on the rhythm and groove making him different from the rest of the music artists of his time. His performance style was full of energy and different with his various dance moves and he was always ready at the mic on perfect que (Appell and Hemphill 320). Jackie Wilson on the other hand was well-known also for his stage performances and his songs would be a mix between James Brown and
