A supportive learning environment should be purposeful and task orientated, where the tutor emphasises the need to progress steadily. This can be done by starting lessons promptly, creating a smooth flow to the lesson, involving pupils and monitoring their progression and organisation. A positive effort should be made to ensure pupils have or build on self-respect and esteem by setting realistic opportunities for success and helpful support and encouragement whenever difficulties arise.
Guidance is vital to their everyday needs. It is a tool to help teachers strengthen learning and individuality in the classroom. While young children are in our care I believe that teachers need to focus on guiding young children in the right direction. Therefore, three long-term goals that are critical for young children to develop are independence, self-discipline, and initiative. All of the aforementioned goals are pertinent for young children to develop. These goals will influence how they learn and live their lives.

When in the adolescent life stage, the emotional development norms for an individual is to learn their personal identity and they must leant about who they are about how to control their emotions within the change of puberty. Low self-esteem and confidence issue is often something most teenagers struggle with. With adolescence secondary learning occurs, a person’s self-worth can change within this life-stage due to the social situations that an individual had to be within, also their use of clothing, language and religion etc. The introduction of hormones can often change how teenagers see themselves. Adolescent’s independence that they go through can affect their social and emotional development.
Choosing a technique to use throughout the therapeutic process is essential to the client as well as the therapist. By choosing a particular therapeutic approach the therapist is simply implementing a tool to help navigate through the counseling phase. Therefore, without the necessary tools needed for therapy counseling would be extremely difficult for both the client and the clinician. The ability to use different techniques is also useful for those who choose a career in school counseling. Those who choose to go into the school counseling field are disposed to using techniques that help to quickly resolve a solution or one that has the ability to change a child’s thought process or behavior. Hence, many of the practices used in conventional therapy would not be practical to use as a school counselor because they may be deemed as inappropriate or ineffective to use when counseling children. Take for instance; Psychoanalysis many of the techniques used throughout Freudian therapy would not be useful for school counselors.

For instance, when we give children responsibilities, model appropriate behaviors, and allow them to work out solutions we are helping children become responsible for their own actions.
I know From personal experience when I say that various students change within these years due to their thoughts and actions being influenced by something other than carelessness. Most commonly, teachers ignore the fact that their minds possibly focus on other issues and continue to recognize this change as a sign of negligence and presume that they must not care. Many of These teachers may continue trying to assist them in classwork and possibly gain frustration when students don't catch on as quickly as others. In an alternative path, teachers might just give up on them entirely. Due to This, students may get discouraged from learning and some may decide to take the wrong path in their lives instead of trying to fix what can be easily turned into a positive situation It is my contention That students should have access to higher quality counseling and

(Gartrell, 2004, p. 22) As a guidance professional, I will have the ability to inform parents about the positive effects of guidance and the negative effects of punishment. If they are perceptive to this and through the use of guidance, our students will discover how to manage themselves, their interactions with their fellow students and with all within the world in a positive manner.
Adolescence (12-18 years of age) stage in human development is the period between puberty to legal adulthood. During this transitional stage physical, emotional, intellectual, social and psychological changes occur. Despite living in a world where immediate solutions or answers to problems is the expected, in my role of Pupil Support Worker at a local Secondary school, it is very apparent that one solution most certainly does not fix all. Someone once said, “You have to change by yourself, but you don’t have to do it alone”. It takes time to build a relationship with a young person, and even more time until they have come to their solution. For this to work effectively, I have to engage with my clients using counselling skills, without being a qualified counsellor.
