The NBA has been gaining a ton of attention with its soap opera like off-season. I'm here to remind folks which sports runs king in America as I'm excited for the upcoming season. A lot has happened since the Patriots Super Bowl, as teams have been shaping their roster to establish themselves in the league. Many storylines are to be looked at as it's hard to choose which ones are the most interesting.
I mean what will happen with Goff for the Rams? Will the Raiders finally take that next step as a franchise? Is the career of Adrian Peterson really over? With so much to think about for the upcoming season, here are five storylines I have my eye on.
5. Marvin Lewis Finally On the Hot Seat?
Marvin Lewis seems to be the only black man in

Atlanta will be the laughing stock of the NFL for many years to come. I thought the Seahawks passing play was the worst in Super Bowl history but they might have some competition after the performance from the Falcons. We all know the story of "you blew a 28-3" lead by now. I still to this day have a hard time believing that this actually happened, and I hope to wake up from this nightmare at some point. With the game basically over, you decided to repeatedly throw the ball instead of running it.
I've always been a critic of Matt Ryan, and this failure continues to prove me right. I've debated people who say he's top three or five right now and I have to tell them to relax. Let's see if the guy can do it again. Since 2002, only the Carolina Panthers have won the division consecutive years in a row. Every other time the division saw a new team wear the crown. Will this happen again this year?
I'm not saying they'll miss the playoffs, but this can be a competitive division. The Panthers found themselves in the Super Bowl 2 years ago, the Bucs are a feisty young team looking to make a name for themselves, and you can never count out Drew Brees. I've just never really believed I'm the Falcons. Throughout their dominant season, I kept asking myself "when are the Falcons going to turn back into the Falcons”. It just so happened to be during the biggest stage of the season. Let's see if Atlanta is ready to establish themselves as a serious contender.
3. Are the Patriots A
Draft picks and free agent signings by the other teams in the AFC East always get people excited. “This is the year the Pats fall off,” they say. But 13 out of the last 15 seasons, the Patriots have been in the postseason, with little reason to believe that circumstance should change this year. With four weeks off to start the season, and should the Patriots reach the playoffs for the 14th time in 16 seasons, Brady could be the healthiest he has been in a while heading into the postseason. That is a scary thought for the rest of the
Last year, the Dallas Cowboys took the NFL by storm behind rookie sensations Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott, finishing the regular season with an impressive 13-3 mark and easily winning the generally competitive NFC East. Heading into the 2017-18 season, some may expect the Cowboys to regress a bit, and for good reason.
Since the loss of Simeon Rice, the Bucs have had a difficult time getting to the QB. Not one player has registered 10 sacks since Rice left.. First, Gaines Adams was the savior but ended up a complete failure. Then Adrian Clayborn and Da’Quon Bowers seemed to be the answer. Bowers ended up doing virtually nothing and Adrian Clayborn was average at best.
Move over, AFC! The NFC is in clear control of 2017’s most compelling NFL playoff races. Through Week 10, all four NFC divisions have surprising and competitive stories to tell, and it should only get better from here. Let’s individually break down each NFC division and discuss what short- and long-term results could be in store for the NFC crown competitors.
Even with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, an NFL team can only withstand so many injuries. They’ve been without Jordy Nelson all season, Randall Cobb has been playing with a hurt shoulder all year long, Eddie Lacy hasn’t been in shape, Davante Adams hasn’t been 100 percent since week one, and their starting cornerbacks started the year at number three and four on the depth chart.
The Panthers also have a knack of getting a little complacent and letting their opponents sneak back into the game. Against the New York Giants in the regular season and against Seattle in the playoffs, Carolina held an overwhelming lead but let both teams climb nearly all the way back. In the biggest game of their lives, can the Panthers maintain their composure throughout the entire game? An extra long half-time break and the pre-game hype that surrounds the Super Bowl could be a factor. Manning hasn’t always played well in the big game, just look at the Broncos’ 43-8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl two years ago. Yet, Manning’s and his teammates’ Super Bowl experience could be a crucial mental
OK, so he hasn 't been horrific since he took over for a struggling Brandon Weeden, who took over for an injured Tony Romo. (the fact that, there are this many quarterbacks in the talks for the Cowboys this season is beyond heartbreaking) Anyway, Cassel has shown some life and even made some impressive plays on the field. However, we are still sitting in at 2-6 and dead last in already abysmal division. Other than a 30-6 loss to the New England Patriots the Cowboys have been in every game until the last quarter, most of those games pushing into the final seconds and two of them even into overtime. Sounds accurate right Cowboy 's fans? If the Cowboys lose its always in a heart stopping, gut wrenching fashion. Nonetheless, should all of these losses lay at the feet of our man under center? Of course not, but on the other hand he has played mediocre football at best. Sometimes its about finding the quarterback that just knows how to win. I am not persuaded Cassel is able to do that. He hasn 't in the time he has worn the star anyway. Even though Cassel put up his best game as a Cowboy in the 33-27 overtime loss to the Eagles last Sunday night, it still has one play that will forever haunt him, and the fans I imagine. Cassel threw for 299 yards, 3 touchdowns, and the main focus unfortunately for Cassel is that one interception he threw in
Let's go back in time to the 2009-2010 NFL season. The New Orlean Saints have just finished all of their preseason games and are looking toward the regular season. After a very mediocre 8-8 season in 2008, everybody is writing off the saints. Although to some significant off season trades and very average draft, they were predicted a slightly above average 10-6 season. Playoff contenders for sure, but nobody even thought about super bowl winners. The team was led by Drew Brees. One of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, but with an awful defense and a rushing attack that wasn't much better, the team was projected to be carried solely on the back of Drew Brees all season long. What soon later ensued was
Well Bucs fans, it seems as if that eerie feeling of the losing culture is circling around us again. Some fans will argue, did it ever really leave? Since the 2008 season, which is when this writer believes that whatever jinx and or curse, on this team came to be. See the Manning Monday Night massacre… fans you know exactly which game. The losing culture circles this team, like a vulture circles its prey.
The “Andy Dalton Dud Game” still hasn’t happened yet, and I don’t think it will any time soon. This Bengals teams is much different than the Bengals teams of the previous four seasons. Dalton is playing at an all-time high level, the defense looks like one of best in the league, and they are one of the deepest teams in the league.
The offense started to show promise and the defense was strong vs the Cardinals which is good as they’ll travel to New England to play the Patriots this week. The Patriots are ailing with QB woes and the Bills could possibly steal a victory from the Patriots due their injury situation at QB.
During their decade run as the best division in football, the AFC North’s success has been predicated on tough-nose defense and consistent quarterback play. Omitting the Browns, AFC North teams all have “franchise” quarterbacks entering 2017 in Ben Roethlisberger (15th season), Joe Flacco (10th season) and Andy Dalton (7th season).
Bear’s fans starts to get excited every year around this time, but this year is different. Chicago has put together an offense with several threats at every skilled position. The receivers have an excellent opportunity to put together a duo, if not a trio that could easily lead the NFC. The back field is shaping up like it will be a force of its own to be dealt with by opposing defenses. And at quarterback, well, let’s just say Cutler will have no excuses this year.
Five Things I’m Buying and Not Buying From The First Sunday Of The NFL Season
In the last five years the Seahawks have been to the Super Bowl twice and the 49ers have been once. The Rams haven’t made the playoffs since 2004. That’s 11 years and if they don’t want to continue that trend something has to change. The Rams defense gave up 20.6 points on average last season and were the 20th ranked team in that category and look to improve on defense with a number of returning players like Trumaine Johnson, Robert Quinn, and Aaron Donald. On the offensive side, players like Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin with most likely shine this year. The only questionable position heading into this season will be the quarterback position. It will be up to one of those three players to step it up and play like a true NFL QB if they want their team to get to the
