When dealing with chemicals in any situation it is important to be safe and know all your safety guidelines. In the video, “Starting with Safety” we learn about different safety precautions and what could happen if you don’t follow them while in chemistry lab. The video cuts into six different sections that include: Handling Chemicals Safely, Bunsen Burner and Glassware, Thermometers and Glass Tubing, Proper Clothing, and Emergency Equipment. All sections go into depth and include examples on how to be safe in lab, what not to do in lab, and what can happen if you don’t pay attention to what you are doing. In the first section, Handling Chemicals Safely, we go over some rules to keep in mind when dealing with chemicals that could do harm …show more content…
Glassware is used to measure out chemicals in a lab. Always make sure to hold the glassware in beaker tongs to avoid accidental dropping or if there are cracks and stars in the glassware it can cause an explosion and break. Other lab equipment we learn about are thermometers and glass tubing. After learning about Bunsen Burners and Glassware we learn about thermometers and glass tubing. A thermometer measures the temperature of a liquid or solid. There are two types of thermometers one can use in lab which are a glass thermometer or a mercury thermometer. When using a thermometer always be sure to be careful. For example, if your thermometer contains a liquid in it make sure not to shake it as this can lead to a spill. Make sure to lay it down as well so accidental falling doesn’t happen. If there is a spill or falling happens use a clean up kit or sponge to clean it up. Glass tubing is a cylinder tube used to hold chemicals in with an inserter. If there is no inserter use a lubricant and leather gloves. A glass tube is very fragile and too much force can cause it to break. Lastly, we learn about the proper clothing to wear and emergency equipment. It is very important to wear proper clothing when entering the lab room. Proper clothing helps protect from chemicals and flames. Proper clothing for example is something fitted to the body that is cotton or wool, long pants, and leather shoes. If you wear sleeves that are too loose you can accidently
If there is a chemical spill, notify your instructor immediately to prevent any further damage.
I will continue then with the Biology Department. The Laboratories of this department will be using not just chemicals but also materials that can be contaminated, and that can also represent a health hazard for those individuals involved with the handling of them. Since waste products from this department includes body organs, tissues and fluids, specific regulations apply to this type of hazardous materials handling and disposal.
1. Gather appropriate lab equipment and secure a safe workspace with open ventilation, away from children and pets. All chemicals will be combined in the 96 well plate. Don’t contaminate end of pipet with other chemicals.
One of the first rules in the laboratory is having the correct /appropriate attire. While working in the lab all clothing must not be baggy or loose and be able for one to work in their workspace. Hair must be slicked back and out of the way from all materials during an experiment. Open toes shoes are not allowed in the lab, only enclosed shoes. No long dangling jewelry or items are permitted. As well, goggles should always be on just in case any chemicals or materials are out of harms worth. Lastly, in the lab, all students including the professor should be wearing an apron while conducting all experiments. This prevents a lot of accidents that can be caused by the
Risk Prevention for Propanol: Keep away from flames, due to flammability. Wear safety glasses, to protect eyes. Wear gloves and apron to remove the factor of skin irritation. To avoid inhalation, ventilation is to be turned on. Also do not
The instrument used to measure temperature is a thermometer. There are many types of thermometers; the most common consist of a closed, graduated glass tube in which a liquid expands or contracts as the temperature increases or decreases. Many different types of thermometers work by detecting changes in the volume or pressure of an enclosed gas or by registering thermoelectric changes in a conductor (such as a thermistor or thermocouple). Galen, a Greek scientist and doctor made the first attempt at measuring temperature.
Chart -Thermometer -Timer (Phone) -Hot Plate -Test Tubes -Test Tube Rack -Tongs -Potato bits -Beakers -Ruler Safety In order to stay safe during this lab it is important to always use tongs when handling beakers and test tubes that have either been or on the hot plate.
Wear safety goggles and a chemical-resistant lab apron since the chemicals used in this lab are toxic and may irritate body tissues.
Wear safety goggles and rubber gloves when dealing with acid. Follow all the safe handling instructions on the package.
Hazardous chemicals include flammable liquids, acids, gases and solvents. This should all be included in the Production Risk Assessment for each performance and should state each substance that is to be used. The substances should be used in accordance with requirements set out in the Safety Data Sheet included in the risk assessments.
The laboratory practices and safety precautions that were demonstrated in the video will help reduce hazards, due to, these videos gave precise guideline, that, if, adhered to will keep all, safe. some of these advisements were, but, are not limited to, the proper handwashing technique, (thoroughly washing under warmest water, tolerated, for twenty seconds), disinfection of work area before and after working, allowing for only the lab manual/book to be on area along with experiment and equipment.
Safety is an essential human need. Implementation of this need is determined by the level of development of the state, its economic and cultural components, and the degree and quality of life. In the history of social and philosophical thought, the problem of security of the individual, society, and the state has always occupied the minds of politicians, public figures, scientists, writers, and practitioners. Therefore, this paper will focus on Plato, Plutarch, and Arendt’s understanding of safety in society as well as it will regard the modern conditions of the security components.
To assure the correct use of the product basic safety measures should always be followed including the warnings and cautions listed in this instruction manual.
BTEC Apprenticeship Assessment Workbook Level 2 Health & Social Care 1. HEALTH AND SAFETY 2 This sequence of activities will allow you to demonstrate your knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures in your workplace. As a health and social care worker, it is important that you are competent in assessing risks and hazards and implementing good practice on health and safety. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING These activities assess your knowledge of health and safety.
