During a peer assessment, there are several aspects of the written assignment considered while attempting to judge and comment on on a peers work. Is the work original? Does the author understand the assignment thoroughly and have their own ideas or thoughts on the subject? Are the mechanics of the paper clear enough to convey their thoughts on the assignment at hand? While I do believe that both the understanding of the assignment (ideas) and the mechanics (grammar) behind the paper are both important, I critique them at separate levels. I personally believe that the ideas portrayed throughout the assignment weight the heaviest when trying to assess a paper. The reason that grammar plays a lesser role in assessment, is the fact that I will …show more content…
When assessing a peer assignment, I am open to and actually enjoy learning others perspectives on an assignment. I feel as though I learn just as much from others opinions in discussions as I do from researching the subject. I believe that personal values should only be used in comments (feedback) to give the author another view on the assignment or something else to consider. As long as the paper (assignment) is in line with the given subject and has great insight on the matter, I will not pass judgement using my personal values or beliefs. I feel this would be very unfair and unethical as there are so many different values recognized in the world. The understanding of these varied values is where we can make strong, accurate, and fair assessments. Any feedback in this situation would be used only to bring a different perspective to the authors ideas, but not used in grading or judging an …show more content…
I had to take several tests including a Microsoft Office test that showed I had the base knowledge to work with some of the software that they used. I was then put through their training program that all new employees must go through and acquired the specific knowledge through learning and interacting with other giving me the chance to develop skills as to not only what to do, but why. This time also gave me the appropriate time to ask questions or raise concerns and discuss them with others to learn their opinions and well as express mine. This allowed me to consider more than just my way of approaching a situation and apply it, especially when troubleshooting was

I think one of the most useful forms of feedback a student can get is a paper with the professor’s notes all over it. If the student chooses to heed that feedback is their own prerogative. The study also addresses the effectiveness of model texts. I firmly agree that when it comes to poetry “‘seeing someone else do it … is very different from doing it yourself’”. Outside of the general format of the essay it can be very difficult to look at someone else’s work and figure out not only why it got the grade that it did but also how to incorporate those elements into your own work. In other subjects, however, model papers are much more useful. If a student is writing a research paper a model is good so, at the very least, they have an idea of the length but, a model paper has many more uses than just a reference for how long an assignment should be. It gives students an idea of the
cherishing these values; and third, behaves in a manner that is consistent with the chosen values (Robertson & Long, 2008). Everything individuals do are centered on their consciously or unconsciously held beliefs, attitudes, and values (Simon, Howe, & Kirschenbaum, 2009); substance abuse disorder is an astute, controlling, and disconcerting illness, and the excessive use of substances eventually become counterproductive occasioning impaired reasoning, poor judgment, and gradual personality deterioration being values clarification a framework that will help people with their thoughts, decision making, and actions. Values clarification modality help clients with substance related disorder to resolve moral dilemmas because of undefined values.
To start my peer review process I read my peers work. After I read their work, I go back and read each paragraph individually. Sometimes it is easy to see what needs work, such as finding fragments and grammar errors. Other times, I have to look hard to find errors in my peers work because each student in my class is already a great writer. After making suggested edits throughout the paper, I always complete my revision with an overall comment at the bottom of the page. From there, I give a constructive list of different aspects of the paper that might need revision.
Once you have evaluated the entire piece it is best to focus on the narrow aspects of the assignment e.g. grammar, spelling, and word usage. It is helpful to follow the assignment criteria to ensure the writer has included all that was required and then address each aspect separately. Furthermore, provide constructive criticism by providing I statements (I enjoyed reading the part about peer assessment because….) and provide helpful suggestions and/or examples to the writer on how they could improve, this allows the student to grow. Provide reason to why you think something sounds good so the writer has an idea of what the reader felt they did right. At the end provide the writer with a briefly summary of your assessment in a short paragraph. But most importantly, remain open minded. In peer review this is very important because other people will not always have the same views as
Every individual has their thoughts and beliefs on situation and consider their beliefs of what is right or wrong. It is influential to realize; everyone does not see things in a similar light. What I consider to be the standard, may not be the same as what others see as the standard; to summarize, a large amount of people’s values holds an importance and determine attitudes. However, when it come to my values; they are not strong enough to perceive other as wrong or condemn others because they do not feel the same. Our qualities framework is the thing that we depend on to settle on our choices in life and the qualities I have are not for others to use for their decisions or choices.
I am always happy to try to help someone with their writing. I enjoy experiencing the peer review activity because I can take my time and give suggestions to one of my classmates. I understand that my writing is not perfect, but I am happy to help a classmate with what I know about narrative writing. Everyone can always improve their writing; nobody is perfect. Peer review is a great way to learn how to evaluate, and revise your own writing. In my opinion, it's common sense to be honest when students fill out the rubric. If you’re not honest, then what is the point in doing the activity? It's important to be honest so the student can improve their writing. I believe the peer review activity helps both of us become better writers. Before I
poor composition. Had the student stayed on topic instead of including irrelevant descriptions, the sentence would have flowed much easier. The grading scale of the composition can range from insufficient in the result of imprecise ideas; to excellent, being that there was a focus on the main idea and an elaborated amount of details were supplied.
To make an informed judgment, one must evaluate the student overall. Overall, where does the student fall? As discussed in class, many students meet expectations, and many fully meet expectations but rarely do students exceed expectations overall. To be qualified as exceeding expectations, does the student “wow” you? Is the student excellent? It is okay to make a final evaluation regarding that writing, but a final evaluation of the student overall in the course should never be made based on one piece of writing; there needs to be more than one assessment and several examples because but that day may be particularly bad for the student (e.g. having a bad day). Thus, it is important to assess the student over and over again through different tasks.
Writing is like many sports; practice makes perfect, after all. When a student practices his/her writing skills, that student improves almost automatically. However, this is not the case for this project. The project that the students underwent taught them about the basic rules of grammar, the types of sentences, and commas, semicolons, and colons. They learned about how much punctuation impacted the basic structure of a sentence. This is just review for the freshmen; it hasn’t dramatically impacted the students’ work. Throughout the course of this project, the students in 9th Grade ELA remained pretty consistent. Using the rubric given, I reviewed and graded Student E’s paper. The amount of
On our second week, our tutor gave us the opportunity to write a peer evaluation. We were divided into pairs. When I first learned about the activity, I got thrilled because I wanted to know what my partner thinks about me. Also, I felt a bit worried on how my partner make a judgement about me. For me, the most interesting and
As I coded my comments in Part 2, I began to identify some trends in my feedback. Sample 1 had no comments regarding spelling or grammar, but this was a conscious decision based on Dr. Hedgcock’s intervention. I only asked for information twice on Sample 1, and I think this was because I had already decided that I would ask the writer to re-write the text in my end comment, so asking for more
Integrity is defined in dictionary.com as “adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty” (“Integrity”, n.d.), but what does it also mean be to have moral and ethical principles? The apostle Paul wrote a personal letter to Titus encouraging him in his ministry and shows him what integrity looks like. The letter that Paul wrote can be applied to both spiritual and personal integrity. When one has personal growth it affects ones integrity because he or she can go about their lives more boldly. In Titus chapter 2: 1-12 it states:
The claim that moral values cannot be derived from facts is grounded in the idea that facts are descriptive and informative, whereas value propositions are prescriptive and imply that we ought to carry out certain action or act in a particular way. In essence, while facts give us information about the world itself, values tell us how we should act. It is accepted that facts are cognitive and are therefore know to be true or false. However, non-cognitivists support the idea that moral truths cannot be known due to the notion that any individual who is making moral judgements is not articulating their beliefs about the way the world is. Essentially, it is believed that there are no transcendent moral thoughts to be known or discovered by individuals. David Hume initially pointed out that it would be illogical to derive facts from values – facts cannot be used in the assignment of values. This was later referred to as the is-ought gap, fact-value distinction, or “naturalistic fallacy” to use the term created by G.E. Moore.
These are two different words but these two considerations are very important for every human being in society . Let us consider a problem which will show us what it means exactly how importance of ethical and social values for a person . Mo (Mackinnon)st of the people they are posting some videos on web and which are like poor performance of dancing and singing and some arguing videos . According to ethical and social consideration those impact on human behavior is very changed . For instance this is not a problem for some people but also it is problem for some people . like most of the people they are using these videos for entertaining themselves. If the videos are belongs to them they are ethically and socially they are shamed by each other .
