Every citizen can get involved in politics. People are needed to serve at the local, regional, and national level. Many people think that people can only get involved at a regional and national level since when one thinks of politics they think of the president, the House of Representatives, U.S. Governors etc. Politics are not only regional and nationally, politics are locally as well. It is not only adults who can become involved in politics; young citizens like teenagers can become involved in politics too! Good dedicated leaders are needed at all levels, local, regional and national.
There are several ways that one as a young citizen can become involved in politics. Young citizens may be able to help at a local level, in helping

If a debate team is offered at school they should take advantage of it. This simple action will give the young citizen the opportunity to become involved in politics locally. Other ways a young citizen can become involved in politics is to attend school board meetings, as well as town or city hall meetings. At these meetings you will be able to find out about the needs and issues of the town, as well as the political happenings. The local newspaper gives one the opportunity to learn where and when all these meetings are held.
An organization that is politically active is 4-H. This organization holds state wide meetings where members of their team get together to discuss the needs and issues of the organization. 4-H dedicates itself to many different things. The focus that I acknowledge in 4-H is the branch Youth Advocates for Health. This branch of 4-H dedicates itself to promote healthy life styles to children.
To reach their goals this organization holds weekly meetings where the officers of the organization and the members attend. The team of officers is made up of the president, the vice president, the secretary and the treasurer. In these meetings the team discusses ways that they could use to promote healthy life styles to children. They also discuss ways that they can engage children in physical activities such as playing games, dancing etc. They meet every week in
Thousands of these young adults are politically informed, politically active and have the concerns and demands many of the people who actually vote have. However, the youth of Canada also have concerns of their own which they are unable to address substantially. People under the age of eighteen for the most part are concerned in matters much different than say an employed thirty five-year-old. The youth under eighteen still are in high school they are concerned about as a grade 10 student from Western Canada High School put "class sizes, teacher disputes, and minimum wage", (Thompson) among other things. He later goes on to state the fact that by the time he has indeed graduated and become eighteen years old, he will no longer be interested in class sizes nor teacher disputes, therefore he will not address them in his decision on who he decided to vote for. This is a very valid argument and it is also true for the most part to say that the voices of these concerned children should be heard via the vote of their parents. The government of Canada sees the parents as a voice for their children, however parents inevitably will vote in a bias towards their needs such as tax cuts. Without the availability and opportunity to vote and voice their opinions in an electoral system the youth of Canada are left to impact the political process in other ways. Thousands of youth are involved in political parties, political rallies and interest groups
Afterall, students tend to lean towards other subjects such as math and science more than history and government. I also believe that politicans should try to reach out to younger voters, those with lower incomes, and the less educated. The government is supposed to protect and represent everybody, which brings light to the problem that those with low incomes and minorites are underepresented. However, I do understand that part of the problem starts at home. Parents have to teach their children the imporatance of their vote, but how do you do that if you did not receive the proper education about politics
Political inactivity on the part of young Americans stems from one fundamental source -- a general cynicism of the American political process. This disdain for politics is further perpetuated by a lack of voter education and a needlessly archaic voting procedure that creates barriers to voting where they need not exist. While many of these existing problems can be rectified with relative ease through the implementation of programs such as Internet voting and better voter education, such programs create only a partial solution.
The message emerging from a recent research series on youth civic and political participation is clear: today's youth are not disjoined from associational and small political life, but they are increasingly disenchanted with formal political institutions and practices. Children and youth under 18 have made sententious strides in recent years toward fuller involvement in democratic processes. These strides,
Our program provides a great foundation in influencing children’s health, which in turn fosters important areas of development, which children need in order to grow healthy and ready to succeed in school. This involves a joint collaboration between the program, families and the community by providing essential services to the children that include a nutritional meal plan, health and related services such as screenings for children and services for children that are ill.
I say make them care. Give teens and young adults a reason to go to the voting box. They may not care about all the things politician discuss, but nobody does. Give them a reason to pay attention before it's too late. Also, some teenagers and young adults do care. My grade has been getting into spontaneous debates over Trump and Hilary, and they aren't out of high school yet.
There are many more ways people can participate in politics other than by voting. In the United States, the second highest form of activity is by participating in community work in local communities. The
The main point according Martin P. Wattenberg in Is Voting For Young People is that young people today do not vote during elections as much compared to other voting groups. Young people today are politically unengaged. “These state patterns of voting participation can be confirmed on the national level by the Census Bureau’s 2010 survey data. Among U.S. citizens under the age of 30 in 2010, only 24 percent reported that they voted.” (Page-188, IVYP) The low attendance of young people voting in Presidential elections indicates that young people do not care enough about politics to participate.
Given many politicians are over the age group of 40, there is difficulty relating to many citizens, particularly the youth. Leading these individuals not to do research or gain political knowledge on the policies and view what those politicians stand for. Consequently, these individuals feel ignored when their voices go unheard. Hence, distancing themselves from politics as they feel disappointed with the system as a whole. For example, during the 2011 federal election, Michael Ignatieff candidate of the liberal party had a hard time connecting with his audience
Though youth voter numbers have fallen over the years, it is no indication that youths are becoming less politically agile. Youths are not voting but increasingly getting involved in non-voting political activities. They are boycotting products, attending demonstrations and signing petitions. This indicates that political thought and concern continues to flare within Canadians who do not queue up at polling booths on election days. General apathy towards political parties and leaders and growing perception that politics does not address their needs is keeping voters away. It is therefore for the government, politicians and parties to take steps to rectify the situation. They need to demonstrate greater understanding of youth issues and concerns to win their confidence.
“Young people are interested in politics, and do have faith in the democratic process. Nonetheless, the political system and the established parties and politicians that dominate it, are together failing to
Voting is very essential and one of the easiest methods to influence public policy. You just need to be registered, and go to a polling station. It is simple because the government encourages people to vote, to hear a broad range of opinions. It is a form of direct democracy because when you vote, it directly affects the side or issue you support. Your vote is one more supporting opinion for a candidate or issue that is counted. Some people may think that their vote won’t make a big difference, but if you look at it from another perspective it can impact smaller and local issues. Although voting is imperative because you are given this privilege at the age of 18, it is not the end of one’s ability to influence government, but rather the beginning.
Politicians are going to spend a lot of time on issues that are important to older people, like Social Security, Medicare, retirement, and health care. Younger voters 18-24 year-olds, are very low in numbers when it comes to voting, so it is easier for politicians to pay less attention to the issues that are important to young people. The government is in charge of making important
It is very important to get involved in local government. It gets people to actively participate in the community. One way to get involved is by going to the local School Board meeting. The School Board members are responsible for deciding things for the schools in their area. They are elected every four years and their meetings are open to the public.
A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many options. One option can be by joining a political party which interests them and that has a good manifesto with policies that they would like to see take place and therefore taking part in elections and voting. A second option can be by being part of a pressure group for example, one that represents those against smoking called
