Reflection Paper 1
Course of Study
My course of study at the University of Mary is the Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Educator track. My level of experience in education is limited to the time I have spent educating patients within the various positions I have held since becoming a nurse. Pre- and post-op instructions, educating patients during their labor and delivery experience, as well as educating patients on medications, treatments and options in their care include some of the ways I've interacted with patients in providing education. I do not have any experience in the development or implementation of research of evidence-based projects (EBP) studies.
Personal Goals I do not feel as competent as I would like to be, in regard to

In order to do this, we need to understand how the research process works, so we can better understand the results. Conducting evidence-based practice or promoting evidence-based practice is important for the graduate level nurse, in my opinion. Providing the best evidence for clinical decisions is essential in delivering appropriate patient interventions. Before I started my graduate nursing degree, I can honestly say that I didn't realize the importance of nurses being involved in research in order to understand research methods. I can clearly see now that I will not fully understand the process and methods involved in research unless I participate in it myself. That being said, I am not comfortable in initiating and working on research or EBP projects at this point. I sincerely hope that at the conclusion of this course, I will have a better understanding or nursing research and how to conduct it. I am continuing to see its importance in nursing and want to be able to promote research effectively as a graduate prepared
Evidence-based practice is important because it let nurses know what they are doing, why they are doing it and how they can do it well. Also, evidence-based practice is a process of professional learning, even in training the nurse must know how to ask the right
Evidence Based Practice Nursing is the utilization by nurses of Evidence Based Research findings that, according to Houser (2012), steer the nurse toward integration of clinical expert opinion and experience with an unbiased exhaustive review of the best scientific evidence professional nursing care literature can provide while incorporating patient values and preferences. Evidence Based Practice Nursing entails adopting a systematic critical thinking decision making process guided by a deliberate and defined chosen Evidence Based Nursing model path that involves searching,
In healthcare, evidence based practice (EBP) has grown and become important in providing the best quality care possible to patients. There are numerous ways to collect and use the research in the nursing profession. Studies are constantly being done to help better nursing and all of the healthcare field in order to help patients live better and maintain their health. There are different types of research such as qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative uses the human experience or something that has been lived by someone and quantitative examines for meaning and goes more in depth to research things and strives to test a hypothesis or makes use of statistical data to answer research questions (LoBiondo-Wood
Evidence - Based Nursing, An introduction (2008, p. 285 ) “ The rapidity of change and the reorganization of nursing services within the health care sector presents challenges for the advancement of EBP. Managers and administrators should facilitate the uptake of practice based on current, high-quality research by formalizing the expectation that nurses care be Evidence Based”.
The purpose of this essay will be to discuss evidence based practise and its use in nursing, I will be discussing, the types of research and various forms of data, including the principles of evidence based practise and research. Evidence Based practice is finding the most effective, research proven, evidence to make decisions regarding the service users individual needs and the best decisions for them. As David Sackett quotes, "evidence based practise is the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values." (Sackett D, et al 1996, p.71) Evidence based practice is good practice, assist practitioners, avoiding information overload and applying the most useful information.
Evidence-based practice is important because it lets nurses know what they are doing, why they are doing it and how they can do it better based on scientific research. Then evidence-based practice is a process of professional learning, even in training the nurse must know how to ask the right questions, how to critically appraise evidence, how to make clinical decisions and how to solve the clinical problems. Then the evidence-based practice is not only required for the nurses to have knowledge but also the nurses need to use this knowledge to identify evidence to inform practice and how you might subsequently assimilate this
“Evidence-based practice (EBP) is using the best available research findings to make clinical decisions that are most effective and beneficial for patients” (Chitty & Black, 2007, p. 275). As a professional, evidence based practice incorporates critical thinking and improving your clinical judgement. In order to stay up to date with evidence based practice the nurse can attend continued education, professional conferences, read journals, and become a member of a professional organization (Chitty & Black, 2007, p. 276). The AANP
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduates function in the role of transferring the knowledge to practice. This article reports on the development of a DNP-level EBP course to help students evaluate and apply research findings to clinical practice. (Moore, E. R., & Watters, R., 2013). The DNP
Critical reflection is a very important concept that is growing as an emerging intervention within social work. Unfortunately, with new emerging concepts comes the debate of its effectiveness and validity within the social work profession. For example, evidence-based practice emerged into the social work profession over to decades ago and is one of the prevailing social work paradigms that is still being considered an intervention that needs to be fully incorporated into practice. However, when comparing the two interventions, there are many similarities and differences that should be known within the social work profession.
I feel as though I have met the outcomes for this course. I would have never even thought of participating in a research project before this course and now I find I have a new found respect and understanding for research. Nursing practice should be based on knowledge or evidence established by means of research (Groves, Burns, & Gray, 2013). Research assists in evaluating current practice and developing ideas on how to improve and test theories and implement them into practice if proven to be beneficial. Patients or participants safety is critical during a research project and they need to be protected from vulnerable subjects along with coercion and manipulation. Participants must be made fully aware of what the study is for and how they

Nurses need to understand the research method because it is fundamental to the practice of nursing and the evolution of the profession. As a science, nursing has developed through the use of research in matters relating to patient care and nurses have been active participants in this process either by conducting research or being the study participants. Therefore, it is essential for a nurse to comprehend the research method since he/she will be involved in it during the practice of his/her profession (Polit & Beck, 2014).
Multifaceted implementation strategies are needed to promote use of research evidence in clinical. One of the strategy that we could to incorporate EBP concepts into practice is by reviewing with the existing nursing committee various councils and committees such as the Practice Committee, Staff Education Committee, and interdisciplinary EBP work groups to determine the principles. Contact the chair of the nursing committee that discusses and implements new nursing policies, protocols, and procedures and enquire about the use of EBP when reviewing existing standards of nursing practice or implementing new ones. Nursing practice leaders need to make sure that every nurse realizes the need to review the most recently published research findings
Lastly, my view that graduate prepared nursing roles require utilizing research and evidence-based findings to impact clinical practice has been supported through the teachings of this course. A nurse may not only be a consumer of research, but can also positively contribute in many other ways. Knowledge is power, and, with the teachings of this course, I feel well equipped to review research for credibility and rigor in the
Each clinical day, I am constantly thinking about what is evidence based; what have I learned for lecture. To be honest, I never thought I would be thinking so much about evidence based practice, but I feel it’s essential that each and every single one of my patients gets the best possible care that they deserve. Some ways that I’ve incorporated EVP into my clinical is having discussions with employees about the correct needle length size, observing employees do certain procedure and reflect back, as well as, if I see something that doesn’t seem right, I’ll ask the nurse a question. For example, the nurse and I were doing a postpartum assessment and I noticed when the nurse was assessing the patient’s lochia, that she didn’t have the patient turn to see if any blood was pooled under her.
