Introduction Evidence based practice, “involves integrating the best available research evidence with professional expertise while also taking account of patient preferences the patients state setting and circumstance and health care resources” (Gerrish, K. Lathlean, J, 2015). As the health care profession constantly changes, then it is vital that all evidence based practice is kept up to date with current information and research, relating to nursing practice. Always assuring that the patients need are taken into consideration (Sackett et al, 1996). Nurses are very much responsible for the day to day care they deliver to their patients, therefore it is very important that what they deliver is evidence based. By allowing them to gain the skills and knowledge then it enables them to practice with confidence (Nursing Midwifery Council, 2016). Evidence based practice plays a very large role in the control of Infection management. Infections within the healthcare workplace are a national problem and concern, and can often causes patients health to deteriorate. This can prolong an unexpected stay in hospital for patients, costing the NHS more on resources (Comptroller and Medical General, 2000). This means it is vital for healthcare workers to manage and control infections. One of the main problems is hand hygiene and evidence suggests that healthcare staff including nurses do not perform this task as often as they should nor do they use the proper procedure.
