Why Evolution is More Correct than Creationism
Would you believe that humans and other primates have a common ancestor? Would you believe that you evolved so much that your appendix is a useless organ? Evolution has all of the answers to these questions. However, Creationism doesn’t have all of the answers. Over 60 percent of people believe in evolution. Why shouldn’t you? Evolution is defined as “the slow process by which changes in plants and animals happen over time” (Webster’s Dictionary). Evolution is how humans and other species got to the state that they are currently in. Creationism is “a doctrine or theory holding that matter, the various forms of life, and the world were created by God out of nothing and usually in the way described in Genesis” (Webster’s Dictionary). Many people still believe in this, and it is evolution’s largest opponent. The Theory of Evolution is the correct choice, according to a wealth of facts gathered by people around the world. The wealth of facts include the fossil record, different kinds of dating, and the presence of vestigial body structures that are found in organisms today.
The first piece of evidence that proves that evolution happened is the fossil record. The University of California Museum of Paleontology describes the fossil record as “all of the fossils that exist, whether dug up or still in the ground, provide us with a record of the history of life on Earth” (UCMP). The fossil layer could also be explained as looking at
The second reason why evolution is false is that there is little evidence of transitional fossils in the fossil record. Even Darwin and other scientists have admitted the lack of evidence and fossils. For example, Stephen M. Stanley, an evolutionist, has made comments about this: “In fact, the fossil record does not convincingly document a single transition from one species to another” (Snyder, 44 Reasons Why Evolution Is Just A Fairy Tale For Adults). If evolution has happened, and is still in process today, then the world would be filled with species that are transitioning into another, instead, there are none alive today. To add to this, no human has ever witnessed macroevolution, so therefore, there is little proof and no possible record
Since the beginning of the human race there has been a lingering question as to the origins of man and how all living things acquired their characteristics. The two main theories that arose over time were Creationism and Evolution, both of which provided very distinct answers to this question. Creationism based its answer on the idea of a supernatural power or being that created the entire universe, man and the numerous other organisms that live within it. While, Evolution theorizes that all living things have the potential to change and grow over time into something new and different. So in other words, one theory suggests that humans and all the organisms on Earth are the result of divine design, while the other indicates that they
The main controversy creationist have with accepting the theories of evolution is how all different life forms were produced using genetic material that was present and reproduced from the first living cells. Yet this claim has not fully been proved correct, scientific discoveries and theories have given it great justice so far. Aside from genetic variation, crossbreeding, survival of the fittest etc. Such drastic changes from species to species are due to mutations. In most eyes, mutations are considered to be harmful and destructive. Which is true in some cases, but they are also beneficial in the case of genetics and evolution. Many helpful mutations are incorporated into the normal genotype through natural selection, and when harmful mutations do occur the process of natural selection kills that mutation off. Without randomly occurring mutations, there would have been no development of life and no evolution would have taken place.
The debate over Evolutionary theories and Creationism beliefs has been a major debate throughout our churches, education system, and even our homes. There have been countless scientists, theologians, journalists and Christians that have studied both sides of the spectrum, that argue how the world we live in was created. Many empty statements, with little to no facts, just assertions about this particular question have been stated in many debates all over the world. So on one side we have Creationism belief that essentially argues that God is the “intelligent designer” and on the other side Evolutionary theories that state the world has evolved over the centuries. In the Merriam- Webster dictionary, Creationism is defined as, “a doctrine or theory holding that matter, the various forms of life, and the world were created by God out of nothing and usually in the way described in Genesis “. Merriam- Webster dictionary also defines Evolution as, “a theory that the differences between modern plants and animals are because of changes that happened by a natural process over a very long time; the process by which changes in plants and animals happen over time; a process of slow change and development”. So is it possible to believe both of those definitions?
As we have learned in class and as we still see now in the modern world, the topic of evolution vs creationism has been one of much dispute. To many, there is only one side; you either believe in God or in Science, you either believe that Adam and Eve are our ancestors or you believe that through the years and the changes in the world we have evolved from apes. Whichever side you find yourself on there will always be someone that disagrees with you and is willing to tell you why you are wrong.
Rejection of evolution on the basis that it is not a scientific theory but an unsubstantial opinion is often assumed amongst skeptics. Let’s take a look at the meaning of the word theory. “A theory according to the National Academy of Science is: a comprehensive explanation of some aspect of nature that is supported by vast evidence”. What this means is that a scientific theory is much more than a simple guess, rather a collection of data that is reevaluated and rewritten to account for new information (or evidence) and most importantly a theory must be testable or falsifiable.
Evolutionism is the belief that all living things on Earth have developed from an earlier form. It states that humans have progressively advanced over time through a process called evolution. Creationism on the other hand, states that the world and human beings were created by God.The main problem that arises is when we have determine which of the two theories is correct and we should inclined to. Although evolution seems more credible due to the amount of evidence it has, neither theory presents ideas that are entirely clear and known with certainty. Natural selection is the only known theory that can explain the existence of adaptation in nature. However, this does not mean that natural selection is the driving force throughout evolution,
Have you ever wondered if evolution was the one and only way that humans came to be? Well, you are wrong! There is another side to this continuing argument. The United States Supreme Court declared that restricting an educator's right to teach the theory of evolution is unconstitutional. Disclaimers conveying the theory of evolution of humankind as the only explanation or development is unconstitutional. I believe that both creationism, and evolution both be taught, if anything. Let the students voice their own opinions based off their beliefs and evidence they individually gather.
The argument of Creation vs. Evolution has been debated for quite sometime. Since Darwin’s theory of Evolution by Natural Selection was published, some of those that thought the world and its inhabitants was made by a creator now began to think differently. Evolution began to make sense, there was evidence of certain types of species evolving (as in the finches in the galapogos islands as observed by Darwin) however, with creationism there was no evidence, it was all based on faith. Although Darwin’s theory stands at the forefront for the belief in Evolution especially for those that tend to lean towards this side of the argument, there have been and still is many who support the argument of Design or what is referred to as the teleological argument. Philosophers such as St. Thomas Aquinas and William Paley wrote about the belief in there being a creator in their famous works. David Hume, William Derham and Richard Bentley to name a few also wrote about intelligent design. I believe in Creationism. I believe that the universe and everything in it came into existence because of a higher intelligence and not solely from a primordial soup and if in fact everything did start out as a soup, all the ingredients for this soup was put together by the head chef. In researching this topic, I believe that creationism and evolution (micro-evolution) can co-exist without one absolutely refuting the other. I believe this designer created existence in such a way that evolution is
One reason is that creation was completed in the past. And creation is not happening right now. Scientist can not find anything to prove creation. Another reason is that scientists can not invent any scientific experiment to show how does creation works. Although scientists can not prove the creation doesn’t mean creation did not ever happen. If there is no creator, the universe and earth would not exist nowadays. But scientist have proven the existence of Earth and universe. (Morris 5)
As Christians, it is our responsibility to not only spread the Word, but to help other people believe it through true evidence. As new evidence arises, so do new questions. Any question can be answered in two ways: evolutionists’ way or creationists’ way. Each side provides totally opposite points, and makes you think differently. The way you see the world depends on what glasses you wear; which will you
Evolution is the change of an organism, over time the organism have change to be more adapted to the environment that they are surrounded in order to live. By evolve that mean that their structure will change, for an example, their skeleton structure however the ancestor skeleton structure are some what similar to the more recent organisms. For instant, fossil is a great example for evolution, fossil is the remains of organisms that use to be alive, when scientist examine the fossil they found that there are similarities between related living organism. There are other evidence for evolution which are homologous structures, analogous structures, and vestigial structures. Homologous is when it have a similar structure but different
If the question was posed as to what is the debate between creationism vs. evolution consist of, the thought that it is ‘“God did it” vs. “Natural processes did it,”’ (Scott, 2004) may arise. Science cannot absolutely prove or disprove Creation or Evolution. Yet scientist and the remainder of society use creationism and evolution to prove our existence. Creationist believe in the Christian account of the origin as recorded in Genesis. Creationism is the belief that statements such as “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (NIV) found in Genesis 1:1 and also “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (NIV) found in John 1:1. Evolution is the belief that everything just changed over
The debate between creation and evolution has been around for a long time. For much of it, it has presented a choice between the two. Some claim that you either believe in God or evolution, not both. Others, that you have to choose young earth creationism simply because theistic evolution is not a viable option. Still more present young earth creationism as a naive understanding of both the Bible and science. However, since each position has evidence in support of it and against it, it is in no way true that any of them present us with an undeniable position of definite accuracy. Furthermore, the idea that there is only a choice between creation and evolution is false. Indeed, there are more positions than even creationism and theistic
The theory of evolution is the process how organisms on Earth change over time by natural selection. The theory of evolution is so widely known that it is almost universally accepted, except for a few people that think otherwise. For a theory to become so widely known and established, there has to have been evidence to back it up. The most prominent pieces of evidence for evolution are often cited as biogeography, homology, analogy, direct evidence, and paleontology. Each of these pieces of evidence provide indication for evolution.
