According to Haveighurst “the developmental age for middle aged adults are threefold.” Middle aged adult are overwhelmed with occupations; during that stage of life, time management is critical to adopt. For managing a household, the mid-aged adult needs to be a good decision maker and leader. The management includes keeping marital harmony in avoiding divorce and stay in good terms with the wife or husband for a healthy marriage including child rearing activities. Managing finances, household expenses, and ensuring that the children are well secured in terms of their needs and provisions; for example: education, distraction, recreation, social life, etc. Child rearing includes child carrying, guarantying the children’s education and welfare.
At this stage most people will find jobs and new careers. Due to this, adults will start to learn new skills such as effective communication skills. In addition, adults will start to live independently, which means that they will have to learn the skills of cooking and managing their homes. This will prepare them for children and marriage. Most adults will get under pressure at this stage therefore their thinking time will become a lot slower. But because of their experience they will find it easier to solve their problems
In Erik Erikson theory this stage is “Achieving a sense of generativity while avoiding self-absorption and stagnation (middle-age)” (Crisp and Taylor 2010, p.149). This stage is described as the focus of raising children and to sacrifice their own needs for others. (Crisp and Taylor 2010, p.149). Mrs Green may find that her relationship with her children is stronger, and may have a very active social life as she may be getting ready to retire from work (Koutoukidis, Stainton & Hughson 2013, p.224).
Hormone levels can diminish. b) Psychological Development: Middle-aged adults are often equipped with a mature brain as well as life-experience to make wiser decisions. c) Social Development: Common social expectations include caring for both older and younger generations, making contributions to society, financial security, career productivity, significant relationships and marriage, parenting, refining existing products and creating new ones, and creative projects and talents. d) Possible Counseling Issues: If an adult age forty to sixty is unable to achieve goals and contribute to society, they can suffer from stagnation. Many of the counselling issues from early adulthood continue, along with the added social responsibilities and expectations, making this arguably the most busy and stressful life period.
This report is a lifespan assessment of a middle adult, A.Z., on Saturday, March 7, 2015. An Alverno College nursing student interviewed A.Z. and then applied Gordon’s Function Health Patterns tool in order to gain a better understanding of the lifespan and interviewing process. The interview took place at A.Z.’s home and lasted approximately two hours.
Cultural fiction posits that ideas about middle adulthood are created by cultures. Different cultures have varying views in the ways they recognize and understand middle adulthood (Hutchison, 2015).
Adulthood is the last and longest lasting stage of life. It is also one of the most physically demanding, in the form of deterioration. Most adults tend to be the healthiest in the young adulthood. But by the time they reach middle adulthood the human body begins to lose a lot of its physical. This stage also takes a toll on the mind as well. Nueral processing begins to slow down during this stage. Sometimes to the point where sensory and memory functions no longer work. Exercise, good diet, and healthy attitude can create for a nice lifestyle during this stage. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Exercise can reduce stress and pump more blood to your brain to increase activity (mindhealthconnect.org). Not only would this improve your
Physical development continues to decline as one ages, typically experiencing weakened immune systems and a lessened ability to hear, see, smell and balance as well as before (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). Because of such challenges, older adults are more prone to failing and hurting themselves, which can compound physical challenges and require adjustments to go about accomplishing once was normal daily life tasks.
Aging is a natural occurrence in a human being life. As human’s age and transition into adulthood little attention is given to retirement, rather individuals focus on individual decisions, such as going to college, starting a family, buying a home and other individual choices. Often times, as individuals age so do their social roles and identities, for instance a student, sister, daughter, wife, and mother. Hence, in society there is an age norm in which a society assigns roles and division of labor based on age. Thus, a key component to age norms is timing an appropriate age to marry, have a child and retirement. Furthermore, specifically aging women engage in the social clock that orders major events like marriage, having children
Later middle-age parent may have less time for their children since they might struggle with their own aging parents and career responsibilities. Later middle-age parenthood can be financially more stressful since their children may still be financially dependent on them. Another duty will be finding a balance to stay in touch with their child and other priorities of their life like their career. Even married children may not be able to improve their parent's lives by presenting new family members (in-laws, grandchildren).
Middle adulthood begins at the age of 40 - 60. This is a time when you can’t believe where the time went. It seems like just yesterday you were graduating from college, got married, and had children. Your children are now approaching young adulthood, pushing you into the next stage of life, middle adulthood. You look in the mirror and all the signs of middle age are starting to set in. You notice wrinkles, gray hair, flabby skin and you’re having trouble reading the menu. You begin to reassess you life. Are you happy with what you have accomplished in life so far? Do you have good family

a) What’s most important to Almita is her mom and her mom’s physical (post-cancer/currently in remission) and mental/emotional condition, Alma living away from home and mom for the first time in her life (“father” never part of Almita’s life). School comes second to how her mom is doing;
7. How does life satisfaction change over adulthood (if at all)? What are examples of some factors that influence self-reported life satisfaction? What are some weaknesses of studies of life satisfaction?
In the book by Shaie et al. (2016) “HANDBOOK OF THE PSYCHOLOGY OF AGING,” Baltes’ selection, optimization, and compensation (SOC) theory represents a dialectical lifespan approach. Psychological gains and losses occur at every life, but in old age losses far exceed the gain (Shaie, et., al. 2016.p.6). When we think of physical changes in late adulthood, we believe that those changes can alter lifestyles or cause disability. However, in late adulthood people develop physical changes that affect their ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) such as, visual changes, auditory changes, smell and taste, skin and kinetic changes, and sexual function. Also, aging affects skeletal system, cardiovascular system, immune system, neurological
Throughout the Human Behavior and the Social Environment course, we have encompassed the many stages of the life cycle process. Now that I am twenty two years old, I found the early adulthood stage to be the most influential, and the most sensible one to relate to given the point that I am at in my life. More importantly, I decided to research and apply this life cycle stage to a variety of milestones, experienced by my interviewee, Chelsie. Living just houses apart, being raised by single fathers, Chelsie and I found that we had many things in common. We have remained friends since we were children, and have only grown to be closer into our early adulthood years.
