Working with multi agencies it is very important when a child is retiring back into a home environment.Practitioners could develop a relationship with the new family that the child will be joining and this will help the parents to co-operate with the social workers and all the other agencies that are involved. Positive relationships with the parents are very important but it is also vital that the practitioners have a relationship with other agencies as well. Practitioners can then work together with other agencies when appropriate to make sure that the interests are still child centred. The children act 1989 has influenced some settings by bringing together several sets of guidance and provided the foundation for many of the standards practitioners sustain and maintain when working with children. The act requires that settings work together in the best interests of the child and form partnerships with parents or carers. It requires settings to have appropriate adult to child ratios and policies and procedures on child protection. It is very important to recognise that parents and practitioners have different kinds of relationships with the children in their care. Practitioners need to develop consistent, warm and affectionate relationships with children especially babies but they should not seek to replace the parents. Babies need to be with the same people each and every day to develop social relationships. This is why the EYFS requires all early years settings and schools to implement a key person system. Parents and practitioners have one thing in common that is very important: they all want the best for the child. The roles involved are not the same yet they are complementary. Parents know their own child best. Practitioners have knowledge of general child development.
Working within this approach can also avoid confusion between practitioners or provision being duplicated or missed out and parents being asked the same questions over and over which could get irritating for the parents. The SEN code of practice 2001 stresses the importance of working within a multi-agency team ‘All agencies should recognize the need for effective collaboration of services involved with the child and with parents. Professionals within different agencies and organisations all have specific responsibilities regarding safeguarding of children and young people. The concept of integrated working involves everyone who works with children and young people, and is a central part of Working Together to Safeguard Children (2013).
The importance of interagency working in the safeguarding and protection of children in the UK
Partnership is driven by a desire for collaborative advantage and can offer many positive outcomes, like benefits for staff and services such as less replication between different service providers. It helps them see others point of view and it keeps them from being selfish, it helps young people interact with others to achieve a goal, and it helps them develop socially. It’s important to work in partnership with others so that all agencies can share information and concerns about children and young people in their care, it also helps to keep the children safe and away from harm.
The responsibility of the practitioner is to work as part of a team with other professionals and staff members effectively to bring children and parents the best possible service i.e. working with social workers, speech and language therapists, and family support workers. Practitioners must also have a working partnership with parents, to work effectively with the child as the parents are the primary carers and they will know what the child is like at home and what the child’s interests are. For example they would have a policy called ”parents as partners”.
It is really important for the child/young person and their family to ensure all needs of the individual are met. If we didn’t work with other agencies our children/young people and their families would possibly miss out on valuable support and help.
Working together to safeguard children 2006 sets out how organisations and individuals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the Children’s Act 1989 and the Children’s Act 2004. It is important that all practitioners within settings and environments looking and caring after children and young people must know their responsibilities and duties in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, following their legislations, policies and procedures.
I agree having relationships and communication with other agencies is really beneficial in regards to time and confidentiality. This relationship between agencies can increase the amount of resources to collect pertinent information while keeping in mind the protocols of 28 CFR part 23 to protect the confidentiality of the public's information.
