I am specifically attracted to becoming an English Major because of my experiences with novels. Literature entices me and I am captivated by the authors that take the time to craft their stories. Every author has a voice and their stories are engraved with lessons for their readers. I choose English as my major because nothing makes me happier than reading a book or creating an essay. My attraction to an English major stems from my devotion to English that I developed in my personal and academic time in high school. My high school career reflects my love for books and my thrive to become a better writer. High school was a very big adjustment for me and when life became unbearable reading became my escape. I read about protagonist who escaped
There are several reasons why I decided to take Honors English, but I'll start with the one that is the most important to me, and that is college. College is something that is very important to me, and I want to be prepared for it. When I graduate I plan to attend a school out of state or preferably study abroad, possibly Germany. Unfortunately universities tend to be very expensive, especially if it is not in the state you live in. In order for me to be accepted into a top school I will need scholarships, good grades, and an impressive transcript. By taking this honors English course I hope to increase my chances at achieving my goals.
Since moving to the United States, a land of opportunity, I followed the immigrant tradition of working hard to pursue my passion/ambition to study and get my degree. I started attending community college a year after I came to the United states. I spent three years at Northern Virginia Community College and transferred to the university of Virginia to earn a B.A degree. I have always kept a full-time job while attending community college to cover my living expenses and help my parents back home Throughout my journey of achieving a higher degree, I learned how to work hard and how to overcome challenges in my own personal and academic life. Now I am very confident in achieving my goals.
English has always been one of my favorite subjects because it allows me to use imagination and creativity while always learning something new. I constantly read and even participated in a small book club. I also began writing short stories in a journal and sharing them with others. I love being able to write whatever I may think of and turning it into something more. The passion I have for English has stuck with me for years and I have been trying to share it with others.
The reason why I am I college is so I can become a counselor. My dream is to help people because it is something that I am good at. In high school I ran for vice president of my senior class so I can help our senior year be the best (I won of course). I listened to what everyone wanted to do that year and my student government and I made some of it happened. I was also a part of two teams in high school, the soccer team and the swimming team. Being part of of these teams I would help my teammates during our games and meet; couching them in what they are doing right and wrong. After high school I started working in a retail store, footlocker as a cashier and till this day I still have my job. As a cashier we get many complaints in the day by our customer when they feel like they did not get the proper customer service or when the merchandise is unwanted or destroyed. My job is to listened to the customer and make sure they are satisfied with how they got treated in the store. Since I have been in my job for so long, I also help the new people that come in by training them. Doing all of the things made me
I am intrigued by the bio + program since I believe I would benefit from the sciences I need for MED and in the university. Even if I have not taken any of the classes listed below. I am an outstanding student and I am also a fast learner, and a hands on learner, which I believe, would help me succeed in this program and the career I am interested in. The career I’m interested in is either a general surgeon or a pediatric surgeon because I would love to change the lives of people. This program would impact my college preparation by helping me learn good study methods. Which I believe would help me benefit from it and it would also help succeed in MED school and college. Some skills I believe would help me in this program is that I’m very organized
English in its entirety can be simply described as author, biologist and physician, Lewis Thomas had once said, “We pass the word around; we ponder how the case is put by different people, we read the poetry; we meditate over the literature; we play the music; we change our minds; we reach an understanding. Society evolves this way, not by shouting each other down, but by the unique capacity of unique, individual human beings to comprehend each other” (Thomas 120). The impact literature can bring onto others is simply amazing and is a gift that should be shared with everyone. This spring semester has quickly broadened my perspective. Being that this is my freshman year in college I prodded around ideas of what majors I had interests in. I
When I say it helped me know that I should be majoring in English, I don’t want you to get me wrong and think that I just randomly picked English out of all the options in front of me at the time. I wasn’t too far on the fence about not majoring in English and finding something else. Although, I did still have that little voice in my head that kept saying, “Hey, are you sure about this? You can’t even decide what Chic-Fil-A sauce to use for your fries and chicken nuggets.” Yes, thanks little voice, I am aware I am incapable of making any decisions. I really did feel as though English is the best fit for my interests though. I felt that then and I really feel that now after looking over the different categories and themes of my life. I’m still not that interesting and interesting things don’t happen to me, but I was able to pick and dig into my mind to put some things down and connect them.
I am very interested in literature. I love the idea of creating new worlds out of thin air or writing about the world we already live in. Reading is a big passion of mine. I love to be immersed in different worlds while reading; the experience cannot be replicated. I hope to be involved in literacy and writing someday, and make a difference in the world through words.
I believe that I should be in English 9 honors for freshman year. I think this because I have worked really hard to get where I am in school and think that I can only improve. Honors English is a challenge I would like to work for. This year most of my grades in ELA have been 3.5s although there are people that get better grades I am willing to improve and push to be in a high level class. I would like to push to the best of my abilities in high school and work hard and being in an honors class would let me be able to do that. The work load will not bother me because I believe it is worth it. In high school I would like to challenge myself in ways I never got to in middle school. I am looking to learn at a faster pace than I have been learning

A liberal arts education encourages freedom by allowing students to grow individually and academically. Before I read the summer reading packet, I did not know this. By reading the packet, I understand what it means to be liberally educated at Loras College. The freedom and growth that I will experience through the liberal arts at Loras will allow me to become better-rounded as an individual. Because of this, I will have learned how to be a critical thinker and learner, see the whole picture of why I am learning what I am learning, and connect and use what I have learned to other aspects of life. I believe that through the liberal arts I will learn how see deeper into what I have learned, know the true reason of why I am learning what I am learning, expanding my knowledge by having a well-rounded education, and use that in real-world situations to better myself and society.

I want to take AP English Literature and Composition because I enjoy searching for a deeper meaning behind things. Although I may not be very good at it, my love for reading inspires me to dig deeper into my brain and search for an answer. My will to learn about expanding ideas convinced me to choose AP Literature. I love the thrill I get when I actually understand a metaphor or simile. When I interpret a poem or a line different from the class, I enjoy seeing other the perspectives. I feel that taking literature will allow me to understand books better and increase my love for reading.
