These issues include privacy concerns and censorship, psychological distress, and inappropriate content. First, I will go into the privacy concerns associated with Facebook. This social networking website allows the user to customize information on their profiles allowing the website to send them information that may appeal to them. Facebook only sends information that they think the user will enjoy. Facebook interprets the user’s particular interests and presents it to them in an easy to read website page called a “news feed.” This news feed only present information that Facebook’s believes the user will enjoy but censors information that would not be appealing to the user’s particular interests. For example, I was accessing Facebook reading articles that were posted from many on my conservative friends. I have one liberal friend that presents articles with interesting points of view on many of our current politicians. Due to the fact that I was reading conservative articles on Facebook, the website presented strictly conservative articles on my news feed. This censorship limited the information that I was allowed to access due to the fact that I was reading particular articles. This censorship also applied when I went to search particular people or events. This involuntarily censorship has a negative effect on society because it limits the different sources and views from other individuals.
