Beah is taken as a young boy and it placed in the army. Through all the journeys Beah goes through he ends up living the new york city and lives a life full of actions that are meant to please others and help the people suffering in the horrible South African conditions. When identifying and analyzing the theme in A Long Way Gone: memoirs of a boy soldier it is shown that the there is a lack of innocence and morality amongst the modern civilizations in this day and age. Beah's only way to survive was to choose to kill, expect the worst, or learn to erase the pain and sorrow that was inflicted upon him. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer tells the story of Chris McCandless. McCandless was an outdoor enthusiast who attempted to hike into the Alaskan wilderness in 1992 but eventually died after an apparent case of starvation. McCandless, while hitchhiking to the trail in Alaska, met Jim Gallien, a man, who unbeknownst to the both of them, would be the last human being McCandless would ever come in contact with. Chris exuded confidence and despite being less than prepared for his upcoming journey didn’t listen to Gallien and his countless efforts to talk him out of it. A Long Way Gone is an autobiography which tells the raw, mesmerizing story of how Ishmael Beah lived as a child soldier in Sierra Leone. Guns, violence and fear are reoccurring themes throughout the entire novel which shed light on the constant controversy over guns. The plane crashed at the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. In The Mountain Between Us, Alex and Ben both were trying to fly out of Idaho so Alex could be at her wedding and Ben could perform surgery the next morning. The airport had shut down due to an oncoming snow-storm. The strangers flew out together on a small plane. The pilot had a heart attack mid flight and the plane crashed. Neither Ben nor Alex wanted to die and their hope to live encouraged teamwork and patience so both of them could eventually make it to safety. In this book a volcano erupted which spread ash through the air. People started to turn on each other, but Miles and his family stuck with one another and were able to survive this way. This is first present in the text when it states, “Sarah herself grabbed my shirt or I might have fallen overboard.”(Will Weaver 35) This proves that teamwork can help you to survive because Sarah helped Miles when he needed it, to stay a live. After viewing the video on Cold Stone Creamery it is pretty obvious that teamwork permeates through everything they do. They define a team as a group of workers that have a shared mission and vision while also sharing the same responsibilities. This definition makes a lot of sense to me while thinking about how teamwork is defined. If I had to define team work in my own words it would be a group of colleagues working on a task together with efficiency that also has a specific end goal in mind. For example at my church we serve complimentary coffee to the guests that attend our services. A team of 2 or 3 people prepares and serves at each service. We arrive about an hour before the service starts. We take care of all the setup, serving, and clean up together. If not too many guests come to that particular service it isn’t too busy for us. On a busy night like Christmas Eve theirs is lots of people and they all want coffee. With enough people to serve everything goes smoothly.
