I had the pleasure of meeting Devyn in November 2015. I asked whether he was able to be interviewed by me, and he agreed. Devyn has worked in the Therapeutic Recreation field for 20 years. He started out with a pay of $30,000 a year. He currently earns $70,000 a year, and he explained that it could be as high as $78,000 annually, but for a newly graduate person starting, the rate of $40,000 a year with two weeks paid vacation is the normal rate. Devyn currently works at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at U of M in Ann Arbor, MI, has been there 7 months because he moved back to Michigan. He has changed places he worked at, 4 times within his career only because of moving out of state several times. Devyn has full benefits with the University of Michigan Hospital, and enjoys his work. He is responsible for managing two different clinics, overseeing productivity within the clinics, and supervises staff and client management. Reports and statistics are done every …show more content…
He said the feels frustrated with not being able to help enough clients, and to be able to service them. When it came to qualities one needs, he said to have a background in Recreational Therapy (education that is attained it at school), and experience with field work. Devyn feels qualities like compassion, understanding and patience are needed to be successful as a Therapeutic Recreational Therapist. One should be able to build rapport with clients. He feels that one should be just as passionate about doing Therapeutic Recreation as he does. I questioned Devyn about mental health days. He gets 340 hours (45 days) of vacation time and is able to take off days when he needs to. I asked if his job interferers with his family time, and it does not; he is able to leave his work behind when he goes home. It is mandatory for the staff to get flu shots for every season by the end of the year. When you have a flu shot, a sticker is placed on your name

My field site interview was at the County of Los Angeles Department of mental health. I had the honor to interview Jeremy Winn who is a mental health supervisor. At the La county mental health, they have staff on duty that can help clients with the necessary support and help they need in order to get the treatment plan they need. For instance, they have social workers, case managers, psychologist, psychiatrist and many more as part of their staff. The Los Angeles county mental health are strong supporters on the prevention and early interventions plan. It’s main focus is on evidence-based promising or community defined evidence practices, education, support, and outreach to help inform and identify those who may be affected by some level
To understand stereotypes about of a recreational therapist, one must learn what therapeutic recreation does and how it benefits patients. Recreational therapists are people that plan, direct, recreational – based treatment people for people with illnesses and disabilities. There are myths about recreational therapists that come from a society not understanding the term “recreational therapy”. Recreational therapists play an active role in helping people young or old learn to carry daily activities to aid them in their daily lives.

For my field project interview I chose option #1, a single in depth interview, because I believed it would be extremely beneficial for me to interview someone in the field of work that I am interested in, as a career, when I graduate. Furthermore, the field I am interested in gaining employment is in the nonprofit industry. When choosing this option I believed that I would gain valuable information that would help me to determine if this is the field I really want to do with my degree. For my project I opted to interview June Early, the Executive Director of SAFE (Safe Alternatives for Everyone). I met June Early several years ago and applied my networking skills when evaluating my options of who I should interview. I did research online and
Maitland Faucheux is known by “Spuddy” to just about everyone. I met Spuddy though Alumni connections from my advisor. I did not know really much about him but when I talked to him over the phone he seemed really eager to do an interview. Mr. Faucheux actually majored in Computer Science at Nicholls University. He originally wanted to go to a technical school for electronics. Somehow one of his friends from high school ended up talking him into going to college. His friend had heard about the Computer Science major from one of his friends and talked to him about it. He worked in that major for 10 years before he got tired of the repetitive behavior. He also worked at a plant in Vacherie and a sales person for toiletries. Being around people was not a problem because he worked with people since he was 8 years old. He knew that he wanted to own his own business one day. When he opened Spuddy’s Cajun Food he
My child 's name is Jude Alexander and he is a male. As a baby he is cautious around new people and situations, but warms up fairly quickly to friendly people. In kindergarten Jude Alexander seemed to have made one or two friends and usually played cooperatively and was sometimes reluctant to join in new activities with unfamiliar children. He performed below average on tests of vocabulary, and the ability to retell a story. He had a real knack for the art projects, and really got interested in the pre-math activities involving working with blocks and geometric shapes. In first through fifth grade he worked cooperatively in groups, usually respects the rights and property of others, and usually demonstrates appropriate peer social interaction. He demonstrates strength in art, all areas of reading, and in spelling and appropriate for the grade level in writing. He needs additional help in the areas of speaking and listening and in the content knowledge of social studies, science and music. He was average in mathematical problem solving, understanding of data, number concepts, graphical applications, and arithmetic computation. In the seventh grade, he consistently contributes to cooperative group activities and respects the rights and possessions of others, and shows age-appropriate social interaction with peers. He demonstrates strength in art, reading, spelling and writing. He was average in math and science, and needs additional
It is nice to meet someone that was raised in Memphis, TN and interested the same field. I also feel that criminal justice is a great field. Why because criminal justice would give you an opportunity to learn something different. Also criminal justice would give you a chance to explore different things. I'm still not sure what I want to do with my degree. But law enforcement is one of my options.
An OTA can benefit from a fruitful interview. My interview with JBMT was highly rewarding and gave an excellent insight into an own culture that differs from my own which led me to understand diversity. The interview helped me get to know a lot about Mr. JBMT; his culture, occupation, and activities. Mr. JBMT is a caucasian male with ancestry origins in Italy, Germany, Russia, Austria, and England. Like most Caucasians, Mr. JBMT respects and observes holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. During these occasions, people come together to appreciate each other with gifts and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Mr. JBMT celebrations with family are traditional and invoke religion.
I will interview several of my students outside of the classroom right after a class session in which a particular teaching method was used. I will do some of the interviews individually, some of them in focus groups, and some of them as open-ended surveys of the students who are more comfortable writing than speaking. For the spoken interviews, I will have a set of questions set up involving first questions relating to how comfortable they felt in the groups in the classrooms and then moving into the information they were to have mastered. The interviews will last 5-10 minutes each and will be recorded on the video camera built into my laptop. I will have pre-written consent forms for the students to sign that will allow me to interview them and use the information for my study. Some specific topics I would touch on in the interviews include their perception of their group members, where they would rank themselves with their peers as far as mastery of the material went, their feelings on group work in general, their concept of a leader in the group and if they perceive themselves to be a leader, and the level of confidence they have in themselves

TES is K-6, with enrollment of 300 students, two thirds are English language Learners, 98% free and reduced lunch, 60% McKinney-Vento Homeless, and 99.5% Navajo. The other .5% is African American and Caucasian.
The participating field instruction that I will interview is a school social worker for two different elementary schools in Richland 2 School District. The intent of the interview is for my field instructor and I to both understand how questions are specifically related to the field organization and establish a clear purpose for the interview. I will prepare by organizing thoughts and establishing an outline of pre-written questions. During the course of the interview I will address accommodations for employee and client diversity and assess her leadership style. I will also inquire about her specific affiliations and assigned roles such as social class, race, ethnicity, disability, age, and sexual orientation. Determining the reasons behind
He has found that people need a specific goal to work toward because everyone does not have the same source of motivation. Currently, his staff is working toward earning an all expense paid group vacation. Dr. Stephenson feels that he is very generous with employee compensation, but in return, he expects the quality of work to be equally exceptional.
Being a junior student, is easy to ask me where I want to work at, what kind of career path I want to go. In realist, I have no idea how to become the person that I want to be. However, thanks to the Informal Interview this assignment, I meet Rachel Hua, she is Revenue accountant at Lanyon Solution, Inc. She has been in the company for two years, and recently she has successfully pass the CPA exam in one time within a year. Rachel had graduate in UTD with master degree two years ago; thus, her experience is very useful for me. Before the interview, I know Rachel from a friend of mine, I was very grateful to have her as my professional in this interview; when we meet at Starbucks for the interview, she was very polite, and she said she is very enjoy the chance to share her experience with people. Throughout the interview, I learned an abundance
Although I have yet to work in a therapeutic recreational type environment, I feel that I have learned many helpful skills that translate from other fields that I can apply to the field of TR. This past summer I worked two jobs in two completely different fields from each other and therapeutic recreation. Working at a bar taught me that you need to be patient and accommodating to peoples needs and wants. I also learned how big of an impact you could make on someone’s day just by doing the simplest tasks. This is especially important in TR because our goal fully revolves around improving health and
