There Will Be Blood is a film set in early oil rich 20th century California. The text follows Daniel Plainview “an oil man”, through the deceitful business of oil drilling. Daniel manipulates those around him to attain his desires at their expense if need be. His son HW, whom Daniel “acquired” when his father died at one of the oil rigs, is used to soften Daniels controlling presence. Daniel learns the location of the oil rich Little Boston where he meets the self-proclaimed faith healer Eli Sunday whom sells the Sunday Ranch to start his own church, “The Church of the 3rd Revelation”. Daniel is characterised as a ‘God’, manipulative and child like. When Daniel is advertising his oil drilling in Little Boston he promises to create, to build schools, roads and parks almost like God, whom created this world. HW is used as a marketing tool for Daniels business proposals. He is not the only one to be manipulated Daniel controls others to get his way and those who disobey pay the price. Throughout the film Daniel displays a hatred/hostility towards many and a friendly nature towards children.
Not only does Daniel Plainview promise to share the wealth of the Sunday Ranch oil but he promises to

This is demonstrated with HW whom Daniel is loving and caring towards when he is a child, however towards the end of the text where HW is an adult and wants to start his own oil company, Daniel becomes hostile towards him and starts to threaten and insult him “you are a bastard from a basket”. Daniel “I hate most people” has a pessimistic, he sees the worst in people and “I want no one else to succeed”. Daniel is a narcissistic pessimist, he is all about himself and only himself “I have a competition in me”. As stated in the essay he ‘has’ to be the God of his surroundings and the people around him. The director characterises Daniel Plainview as a narcissist through selfish acts and statements that he makes “I see the worst in

“There Was Blood” by Caleb Crain made light of the mining situation in the United States in late 19th century and early 20th century. Crain started with a description of the tragic event at Ludlow, Colorado where a fight between the Colorado National Guards and several miners. He then described the events leading up to the incident. When the people of Colorado was suffering from “an energy crisis”, they turned to the coals. Coals was used to power everything ranging from “bak[ing] bread” to “powered engines that pumped water.” The mining of coals became immensely popular due to this. However, mining coals was dangerous and hard work. The workers were expendable to companies since they could just hired more men for the work. Companies tried to prevent strikes by building open camps, later concrete and wood house, hospitals, schools, and company stores. The workers felt this was a company’s monopoly and those who spoke out got beaten up. Mining deaths were often in Colorado. When John D. Rockefeller took over the company in Colorado, he assigned LaMont M. Bowers to supervise. Bowers made the conditions worse for the workers. Later, the workers
Daniel’s perspective is that Americans are not friendly. Daniel goes on to say that “you can not go to the house of somebody you don't know” (49.31). He later elaborates while in Sudan if you enter someone's home they will ask you questions such as “are you lost”, but in America, they will call the cops. Also later in the documentary there is a scene when Daniel talks about how when he was working at Whole Foods he saw a lady crying. Daniel said “lady walked by nobody talked to her, nobody confronted her”, he was dumbfounded that no one stopped to see what’s wrong (1.16.35). This event helped to shape his perspective that Americans are not friendly, they are closed off. For the lost boys of Sudan part of their behavioral culture is that they
In the film, Night of the Living Dead, the movie starts with two siblings, John and Barbara, driving to their father's grave to drop off flowers. John is reluctant to be there and is eager to leave while Barbara is trying to pray. John teases her like when they were children saying “They’re coming to get you, Barbara!” when they both see an unknown man. Barbara goes to apologize to the unknown man but it seems he is dazed and kills John. Barbara escapes and finds herself at an empty house. In the house, she meets Ben, who borders up to the windows after taking down 3 undead. After a bit of listening to a radio for the current status of the state of emergency, Harry and Tom come upstairs. We learn that two men, two women, and a child had been in the basement of the house during Barbara’s and Ben’s struggle with the undead. After much argumentation on if the basement or upstairs was safer between Harry and Ben, Harry went back downstairs to his wife and child. Tom and his wife, Judy, stayed upstairs with Ben believing they could properly border up the windows together. After much convincing from Helen, Harry’s wife, Harry and she join the others upstairs. While listening on the radio, they are given more updates of the state of emergency. The radio announcer suggests instead of staying in place, to now go to one of the designated “safe areas”. When places are announced, Tom says that one of the
The parents have played a very important role in Daniels life. They brought him up always showing him what's wrong and what's right, what choices to make, and who to trust. Being a parent means that you should always be in control of your children for as long as possible. Daniel was said to be the type that needed guidance even though he came across as a strong and independent. His mother knew this, but even she was scared of what he was capable of. When times got rough the parents backed off and let him make his own choices. That wasn’t the best move to make. The parents might have shown love and affection to Daniel but they truly couldn’t see what was going on. If only they had paid enough attention to Daniel maybe they could witness how badly he was coming off the rails. They could of helped him. Helped him to make the right choices.
At the beginning of the bronze bow, Daniel feels hatred towards the Romans, he hates them so much, he is willing to leave everything and act irrationally to show his hate. Even near the end of the book, he throws the water bowl at the roman and nearly gets killed by a spear. When he gets to Joel's house, he is almost dead. when he gets good enough to think clearly, he tells Joel and thace about his vow of hate. They make a new vow of passion He hears about Jesus and it spectacle at.
That’s what he liked about Armin and the HJ, it’s what made them appealing, no matter what situations they may put him into. Daniel is very trusting with where he places his loyalty. So trusting, I’d say, that I would call his loyalty nearly puppylike, the way he blindly follows around his more assertive peers. This loyalty changes however, at the start of the Holocaust, when he discovers he is half-Jewish, and is forced to rethink all of the people in which he placed his trust. Many of which, he doesn’t find worthy for his trust anymore, after seeing what they really are. For example, on pg. 155, when he proclaims, “I’d decided I was not a German anymore. I’d been prepared to go to war and give my life for this country, this people. But that was a
LOGLINE: When a young girl goes missing, her friend and older brother try to find out whether his father is responsible… but the true culprit may be supernatural in nature.
Working out conflicts face to face can and cannot make a difference in resolving the problem.“These face-to-face interactions build trust, understanding, and a real sense of a shared mission, and this has made all the difference in the world.” This direct quote from Forbes.com explains how this specific way can improve how the world communicates to each other. Many people will disagree with the previous statement, but it is just one of the basic elements of the social system. Admittedly, not everyone believes in face to face interaction. People can choose whichever side they want to, but people can solve their problems by talking to somebody.
Daniel suffered individual discrimination from Farhad because Farhad perceived him as Latino, and thus thought he was deceitful and treated him accordingly. Later, when Farhad’s store was trashed because someone broke in through the faulty door, Farhad sought revenge on Daniel because he felt that he was responsible for the trashed store. As a result, Daniel became Farhad’s scapegoat for his frustration of having a ruined store because he did not listen to Daniel’s professional opinion.
Daniel charter was selfish and hotheaded but after hang out with his sister he was less selfish. He cares more about others he gives present to his little sister. He starts to have feelings for a girl. He has a new set of eyes and he seeing the world differently. He has a softer tone. He much more mature now then he was living in the
There Will Be Blood is a historical drama written and directed by P.T Anderson. The film explores themes of ambition, loneliness, lust for power, false personas, hatred, lack of faith, mistrust and loss of humanity. Anderson explores these themes through the characters of Daniel Plainview and Eli Sunday. In addition to character exploration, Anderson uses a variety of cinematic techniques in order to subtextually portray these themes. These techniques include, contrasting lighting, long shots, wide angles and mis en scene. The first themes to be explored in There Will Be Blood are ambition and loneliness. The film begins with a wide shot of a vast and open terrain. This signifies the emptiness of our setting. We meet the character of
I. Daniel appeared to be dealing with the adolescent stage. Daniel seems to have developed his sense of self worth by mimicking his older brother. Daniels significant relationships, since his brothers incarceration has been derricks old friends (the skin head group). The scene in the principle's office shows that Daniel is trying to live up to what he believes are his older brother's ideals, which he believes are following in the foot steps of Nazis. Hate anyone that is not white and
We know from the first scene that Daniel Plainview is a man who does not give up in pursuit of something he wants. Even after breaking his leg, Daniel still saves a silver piece before crawling out of a mine and back to the place where he would cash in that silver piece. We know from the second scene that Daniel uses people, especially innocents such as children, to promote his agenda and for his own personal gain. He adopts a worker’s son after the man dies on the job at Daniel’s small drilling company so he can be perceived as a benevolent family-man while meeting with potential investors as well as making business deals. I believe that Daniel Plainview has some degree of Antisocial
