Movie night was definitely a night to remember--filled with laughter, joy, and very memorable moments. As a way to show the value of caring, each Key Clubber brought a food or beverage item for everybody else to enjoy. The night started out with an informative DCM, in which the past and future events were discussed. Then, we had a bit of a struggle deciding between “Finding Dory” and “High School Musical”; however, we ended up watching Finding Dory by popular vote. After all, who could say “no” to a movie that followed a cute and funny fish? (Nobody, that’s who.) Regardless, we played the first song sung by Troy and Gabriella at the end of the movie to satisfy those who really wanted to watch High School Musical instead. Everyone started singing
On February 10, 2017, I attended the musical Pirates of Penzance. This musical was put on by the drama students at Spring Arbor University in White Auditorium at 8:00 P.M. Pirates of Penzance, is a two hour musical about an apprentice named Frederic, who was just informing his boss, the pirate king, that his apprenticeship was up because today was his 21st birthday. Hesitantly, the pirate king agrees to let Frederic leave the pirate gang and live in the real world. However, before he leaves, Frederic asks his nursery maid, Ruby, if she was pretty. Ruby responded, “Yes,” and Frederic believed her and prepared to marry her. Just before the marriage was to take place, a group of sisters stumbles upon the pirate’s island and Frederic is taken aback by their beauty. In haste, Frederic calls of the relationship with his nursery maid- because she lied to him about her beauty- and he began pursuing a relationship with one of the girls who stumbled upon the pirates’ island. Major General Stanley and his daughters take Frederic under their wing and help him

Dirty Dancing (Emile Ardlino, 1987) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee, 2000) are two beautifully choreographed movies whose plot shares little similarity but has in common the concept of a duet between two clashing personalities. Both movies are about inherently different things but at closer inspection they appear to do the same as two characters flow and move around the other becoming a complicated duet of motion and fluidity. In one movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Shu Lien and Jen Yu, both experienced warriors battle it out in the courtyard of Beijing fighting over the over the ownership of the Green Destiny. In Dirty Dancing it is not until the final scene that we finally see the full potential and dynamic between Baby
Captain Underpants is a series of semi-autobiographical children’s novels by American author, Dav Pilkey. They follow the story of two fourth grade boys, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two best friends that are seen as the class clowns or troublemakers of their school, Jerome Horwitz Elementary. They are constantly pulling pranks including changing a sign that says “Please Wash Your Hands After Using The Toilet” into “Please Wash Your Hands In The Toilet”. George and Harold write a comic series together about a superhero by the name of “Captain Underpants” who wears nothing but his underwear and a red cape. The pair accidentally hypnotizes their ill-natured principal, Mr. Krupp, into believing that he is Captain Underpants and fights crime
The movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, is a historical fiction. It occurs some time in China under a dynasty. Some of the events that happened in this movie relate to some of the material that we covered in class. One event that happened was when Jen and her family travels through the desert and were attacked by Lo and his Dark Cloud on horses. In my interpretation, I believe that Lo and his gang of bandits, displayed some similarities to The Mongols. As seen in the movie, they rode and fought on horses, were nomadic, and lived by raidings, which are things that Mongols are known for. They use horses for mobility and height against their enemies. When Lo and Jen are in Lo’s cave, he assumes that she is part of a Han dynasty, but she corrects
In this move, the Chinese community expects women to get married for procreation purposes. For instance, Wai Tung is being by his mother to get so that he can give her a granddaughter against his will. At the long last he gets married to satisfy his nagging parents to a female tenant. The movie creates a notion that a woman needs a man to achieve something in life because Wei Wei gets married to a gay landlord because she needs a green card. In this case, the marriage between Tung and Wei becomes a marriage of convenience. This scene portrays an aspect of China traditions that women are tools of sex in that part where Mr. Gao insists on throwing a wedding banquet for the couple. After the party and all the drinking, Wai Tung and Wei Wei are put to bed, and things get out of hand. Also, the movie reveals another purpose of female in traditional Chinese culture, which is human production. Tung’s father doesn’t care if his son is homosexual or not as long as he gets a grandchild. Tung’s parents only want Wei to give their family the next generation.
Diary of a wimpy kid is a movie about a boy named Greg, and Rowley and their hardships in middle school, and how he overcomes them while trying to “fit in” the new school he makes many new friend while putting his old friendships at risk. While this movie is very entertaining, it also shows racism, sexism and ableism. This movie portrays racism by ignoring Chirag Gupta one of Greg’s friends he is a really smart kid and wants to be successful the only reason Greg and the people at school are ignoring him is because he went to India for 2 months, to make him feel bad they made him feel invisible and whenever he tried talking to him or any of the kids at school they would not even acknowledged the fact that he was present there, also they made
I was watching Dolphin Tale for the first time with my sister when she decided she wanted to be a marine biologist, thought I was crazy because I wanted to change the way it was done.
The event lasted two hours beginning at 7:00 pm. All students were invited, but only a handful of students showed up, all of them somehow involved in theater. Participants were allowed to sign up to sing any song alone or in a group. Songs that were well known in pop culture included, Hakuna Matata from the Lion King, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. The night ended with a rendition of Don’t Stop Believing where everybody sang.
We burst out of the door, unveiling ourselves to the crowd outside. We felt like rock stars. Everyone had to get a few more pictures with other friends as they arrived and then we filed inside. The place was decorated from top to bottom, glittered stars hung from the ceiling, white Christmas lights twinkled all around, and glimmering gowns in every color made the entire venue sparkle. As a class, months earlier, we had chosen the theme, “I’ve had the time of my life”. The girls had pulled it from our favorite movie, “Dirty Dancing”, and I think the boys just went with it. We sat down for dinner where we were served our choice of meat, with rice or potatoes and a medley of veggies. Nobody ate much though, either because of nerves, vanity, or just plain desire to get to showing off our best moves, we wanted to boogie! After about an hour the tables were cleared off of the dance floor and it was time to the highly anticipated partying. The DJ played the hottest jams of 1999 and we danced the night away. Most of the girls were in their bare feet, unable to take the pain of high heels any longer as we busted our best moves.
La La Land is very good. I saw it twice in theaters, which is odd for me because my preferred method of consuming media is illegally pirating it (NSA, I know you’re reading this, but this confession is not admissible in court, ok? ok.) Anyway, the second time I saw La La Land it was an 8:00 showing on a Wednesday in Cedar Rapids that I had to scramble to get to because I left work and didn’t get any supper. So we stopped at Hy Vee, picked up some to go boxes of chinese food, and tried to figure out the best way to smuggle the food into a theater. Thankfully, I was with a girl who was infamous for her mom purses. Precariously setting the containers vertically into her purse, the contents of which I unceremoniously dumped in the back seat, and draping a scarf over the top of the food
The place was a nightmare to park up but we finally gave up and parked at my stepdad's law firm the place was so pretty but the music was awful the Senate matter to me and Collin we danced anyway finally an hour and they play the slow song this is when we slow dance for the first time we stayed till the end and then left to go change
Have you ever read James and the Giant Peach as a kid? I have. I was very surprised to find out that it is on the list for the most banned books in the US. I have read the book many times in my childhood, and really want others to be able to continue and enjoy it. Many kids have the book read to them before they even go to school.

The film I’ve chosen to analyze is the film Finding Nemo, an animated comedy-drama adventure film, directed by Andrew Shanton and Lee Unkrich. Major actors include; Alexander Gould as Nemo, Ellen DeGeneres as Dory and Albert Brooks as Marlin. The film was officially released in May 30th, 2003. This blockbuster film was nominated Best Animated Feature, also winning more than forty different awards. Nemo, an adventurous young clownfish, is unexpectedly taken from his Great Barrier Reef home to a dentist’s office fish tank. It is now up to the worrisome father, Marlin and his new friend Dory, to set off across the ocean to find Nemo. As his epic journey to find his son continues, Marlin and Dory are faced with challenging situations, which put their fears to the test; allowing them to not only create a new great friendship, but also learn valuable lessons. One of the highlighted lessons in
