Policy and Solution 1.
The problem with todays society is that there are two things that are required for human beings to live: food and water. When you think of it, just think of how unsettling is it that our main source of life is also our main source of sickness in countless people. Unfortunately our food consumption is causing significant problems in a lot of different ways. In the Untied States, according to the New York Times, “one in three adults are considered clinically obese, along with one in five kids, and 24 million Americans are afflicted by type 2 diabetes, often caused by poor diet, with another 79 million people having pre-diabetes. Even gout, a painful form of arthritis once known as “the rich man’s disease” for its

Also more power to prevent the production of these foods in the first place and to set higher health standards for the food companies, making sure the products that they are releasing are nutritious. Also, there should become laws against certain chemicals being used in drinks and foods that have countless times been shown to cause sickness. “Congress passed the Food Safety Modernization Act in 2010 after a wave of incidents involving tainted eggs, peanut butter and spinach sickened thousands of people and led major food makers to join consumer advocates in demanding stronger government oversight,” (Strom 2013). Another way that foods can be limited in production is taxing companies for going over a sugar, fat, or salt limit. Hopefully we can take note on a similar and a new policy that has started in Europe. “France, Finland, Denmark, Britain, Ireland and Romania have all either instituted food taxes or have been talking about it. But perhaps no country is trying harder than Hungary, which has, in the past 18 months, imposed taxes on salt, sugar and the ingredients in energy drinks, hoping both to raise revenues and force those who are eating unhealthy foods to pay a little more toward the country’s under financed health system,” (Daley 2013). It would be interesting to see how this policy can be used in America, no idea or implication could make things worse or take on a role worse than what we are already
We could institute a national, comprehensive program that would make us a world leader in preventing chronic or “lifestyle” diseases, which for the first time in history kill more people than communicable ones. By doing so, we’d not only repair some of the damage we have caused by first inventing and then exporting the Standard American diet, we’d also set a new standard for the rest of the world to follow (Bittman 299).
How a national food policy could save millions of American lives discusses the lack of a national food policy in America and how the food industry affects people and the world. Examples of issues that a nation food policy could alleviate include Americans access to healthy food and reducing the carbon footprint from food production. The article also discusses how special interests flourish from issues related to the food industry while citizens and the environment suffer.

Ones that are suffering from this are living in country that is still globally and economically being worked on. In other words, it's hard to plant crops in certain areas because there is no guarantee that it will grow. People suffer more from hunger than they do diseases ("CRS.). Logically it should be the other way around because of what a deadly disease like AIDS can do to you, but it's simply because they have nothing to eat. Lots of newborn babies are born unhealthy because the lack of nutrition the mothers got. It's hard to imagine that food is the major cause of deaths today.
To start, we Americans are living unhealthy lifestyles. We are becoming too lazy, like the Romans relying too much on their slaves. We also eat too much junk food and not enough healthy foods like fruits, and vegetables. Studies have shown that about 40% of women in the U.S. are overweight, and most teens are starting to become obese. Today, almost everyone is always watching T.V. or YouTube, and are barely exercising.
In the U.S the food is regulated at the federal and state levels. All three branches of government (executive, legislative, judicial) are involved in controlling the food industry. Each branch have their own laws.
There are so many issues that this world is currently facing but hardly anyone of us is actually trying to solve these issues. Many of our fellow human beings are suffering from some sort of health issue ranging from diabetes to heart disease. Not only are we slowly killing ourselves with our poor diets but we are also killing our environment by creating more and more waste and pollution. The third issue that we are currently facing is our economic issue due to our excessive spending and lack of money and income. The issues that we are currently facing can be resolved by decolonizing our diets because our health will improve, it will save the environment and it will provide the economic growth that we need.
I had various choices to put to a charity of my choice and i have so many choices because of this new thing called the progressive era there are so many new social reforms it’s amazing it's like an amazing social justice fight , I don’t know how you got all this money i remember you being poor but whatever, anyways I chose a food safety charity for my 600,000 dollar donation, for my 300,000 dollar donation i chose a child labor charity, lastly I chose deforestation for my 100,000 dollar donation.
Today, in our fast-paced world of modern America, the availability of inexpensive, cheap processed food and drink is overwhelming. We have quickly become the most obese nation on the planet by simply allowing companies to lower nutritional value, raise sugar quantity, and increase fat and calorie percentages to an astounding amount. We as a nation buy into these consessions because of three main reasons: low price, convenience, and massive availability. Because of this, eating healthy is seen to be expensive, time consuming, and daunting. This is the opposite of what we need here in America. Big name companies spend billions upon advertising their sugary, fat-gushing products. When in reality, we should restrict the abundance of adverts, plastered all over major cities, social media, and television. We need to start taking a

Regulating what the government should control and what they should not was one of the main arguments our founding fathers had to deal with when creating our nation, and to this day this regulation is one of the biggest issues in society. Yet, I doubt our founding fathers thought about the idea that the food industry could one day somewhat control our government, which is what we are now facing. Marion Nestles’ arguments in the book Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health deal with how large food companies and government intertwine with one another. She uses many logical appeals and credible sources to make the audience understand the problem with this intermingling. In The Politics of Food author Geoffrey
Food is an essential constituent in human life. Nevertheless, some foods can be detrimental to a person’s organism by causing life-threatening diseases. For that reason, food safety comes into play. Food safety is a scientific discipline describing handling,

Linked with health problems is a poor diet. Variations in our food environment have made it challenging to maintain a healthy weight. Society tends to want to eat more fast-food rather than cooking at home because it is cheaper and less time-consuming. We have become lazy when it comes to our diets. We don’t take into consideration the Food Guide and basically eat what we want, when we want. Obesity is also a major drain on the economy. The amount of money being spent on health care because of obesity-related diseases is astronomical. The Globe and Mail had an article headlined, “Obesity costs economy up to $7-billion a year” (Picard). By eating right and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, our society can cut down economic costs drastically. All we need to have is some discipline, the proper diet, and exercise.
