Interviewing Pastor Frank Peterman gave me very informative information about the career that I want to pursue. Peterman’s previous political positions as a Florida House of Representative, City Councilman and the Secretary of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice made him a very credible source of my interest in law enforcement and public policy career. The interview took place at my church, after the Sunday’s sermon. My ultimate career goal is to become an elected official, so I can oversee and implement policies on various issues. When I asked Pastor Peterman what advice he would give me about being a successful elected official, he replied “define your purpose, and understand the issues of the community”. He also believed that
Our job is not to Christianize government, it to be of service. We have already won as Christians but we are to engage at every level with confidence and peace. To step up to the plate and do what we have to
Having served 22 years in various public service positions including district leader, councilman, congressman, and mayor; Koch uses these different titles in favor of gaining the reader ‘s trust. By appealing to ethos, Koch can invite the reader to openly consider his views than those of the opposition that may not have the general public’s main interests at heart.
Lynch and Friedman (2013) express that “Servant leadership is a valuable approach in politics and industry. Adding the spiritual component−striving to build a spiritual workplace and working to improve society− completes the paradigm and makes it more valuable as a leadership theory” (p.

They must be committed to following God’s Word in their life. For example, how a person leads their own family is a tell of their ability to lead wisely. 1 Timothy 3:5 says, “If a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?” Although the position in consideration in this verse is a church leader, this verse can be applied to any sort of leader. If a person lives their own life and leads what they are already in control of according to the standards set in God’s Word, this commitment will likely continue in office. They will try to establish rules based upon God’s Word, stand up for God when faced with unbelieving opposition, and stay committed to being the biblical type of good leader. What does the Bible say a good leader looks like? In the Old Testament, Moses was told by God to choose men to be judges over the children of Israel; these men were to be “able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain” (Exodus 18:21). If a leader is committed to God’s Word, there he or she will find all the answers to tough questions that come up in a position of
One of the most shocking statistics noted in Kingdom Calling: Vocational Stewardship for the Common Good by Amy Sherman is that if one attends church on a weekly basis, they spend 5 percent at most of their waking hours at church. The other 95 percent are spent out in the world. This illustrates the importance of why this book matters. Sherman starts off by setting the tone for readers – she gives a background as to why she found it necessary that she write this book – and how she read a book by Michael Lindsey in which he discussed research of prominent evangelical business leaders and how their faith impacts their behaviors and decisions at work. A few stood out, while the rest stated they kept a Christian plaque in their office or wore a cross around their neck. They did not fulfill their religious identity in conjunction with their careers. There was a complete disconnect between the two sectors of their lives, and Sherman recognized that. Kingdom Calling is a guidebook for anyone who has ever been concerned about living a divided life – especially for pastors and religious leaders, but for lay people and congregation members as well. In Kingdom Calling, Sherman sets up a three-part framework on how to grow and empower a congregation, a specific group in the church, or a single member.
Criminal Justice and Prison Ministry is my primary ministry interest, I chose this partially because this is what my educational background is. However, the greater reason is the immense need for intervention in the streets and in the Prisons. As crime and injustice grows so grows the need for ministry in the hearts of the men that are heard for incarceration or already incarcerated. It is important part of my goals to incorporate the community in the efforts to reduce crime and increase their involvement in the rehabilitation of the men affected by crime, directly or indirectly.
Subsequently, some posit why a church pastor needs to fly in multimillion-dollar private jets, when people are hungry, homeless, lack employment, and require educational help in local communities. Similarly, some suggest becoming a church leader is now a career path, a job title, an occupation that one seeks, instead of an anointing or call to
The conclusion is that God has called many people to different areas of service to Him—some in the mission field, some in politics, some in business, and some in many other areas. However, the bottom line is that we are to remain committed to him regardless of what our calling in live is; we are to stand firm for the faith regardless of whether it will cost us the next election. This does not mean that we force our faith on others, it means the opposite. Finally, it means that whenever we can no longer serve Christ as our chief master, we must exit the field and serve Him regardless of the personal cost to

Christian leaders According to Aubrey Malphurs, “Godly character is the essential ingredient that qualifies Christian leaders to lead others.” Above all things in Christian leadership, there is strong desire to serve others, because of their love for others. Robert Greenleaf asserts “that the leader-follower, relationship is central to ethical leadership in the world.” A Christian leader is a servant, who has credibility, and the capacity to influence and change their followers thinking and
There are no lone rangers and the Pastor cannot do it all. However, Richard Smith (1992) noted from his reference, Towns, Getting a Church Started in the face of Insurmountable Odds with Limited Resources, “It is evident that growing churches have aggressive pastors” (p. 71).
In warning the Christians to be on the lookout for false teachers, Peter closes his letter with this statement of instructions: “Grow Up”! For several years, Pastor Sharon Riley has made a great impact on our community supporting the cause of upward mobility, justice, and equality with a strong emphasis on the works of Christ. Recently Dr. Riley has become a part of a Christian Living through possibility thinking. Pastor Riley, presents a leadership quality and organizational skill that focuses on the basis of the problem solving approach as explained in the three questions asked by Jackson Nickerson, et al., these three interrelated questions are:
It is not an easy task to carry out public leadership, you have to know almost everything, counseling marriage on the verge breaking down, baptizing dying babies, administering Holy Communion for dying individuals, leading marriage ceremony with unusual and complicated scenario. It is also not easy to accept ministry as God calling rather than as job placement or vocational opportunity. It is tough to accept the people, their culture, tradition and the whole identity. God called us to ministry so that we will be able exercise his full authority (Matt 28:16-18) with full humility (Philippians 2:6, 2Cor 8:9, Rom 5:6-8). We have to deny ourselves and follow the footsteps of Jesus our Lord (Luke 9:23).
The New Testament leaders are an example of how church leaders of today should also behave and work[8]. They ought to be able to teach, guide the believers in the way of God and nurture their spiritual gifts. The New Testament leaders had to boldly defend the word of God in case of any false teaching. Basing on this New Testament leadership, it is important to make sure that any believer appointed to the leadership office has the laid down qualifications[9].
