Franklin D. Roosevelt's Letters To The Great Depression

In response to the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized a series of economic measures known as the New Deal in the United States between 1933 and 1938. The New Deal concentrated on three major features called the "3 Rs": relief for the unemployed and poor; recovery of the economy to a stable level; and reform of the current economic system to prevent another depression. The New Deal was unsuccessful as it had many shortcomings and failed to improve the state of the nation.

One of the most severe worldwide economic downturns in history is known as the great depression. Numerous amount of issues and problems were taken place between the years of 1929-1939. The great depression brought a rapid rise in unemployment, bank failure, and much more. Despite the wide range of issues, Franklin D Roosevelt was actually concerned about the depression. Roosevelt's response to the great depression was very effective because he had launched the new deal, due to the uprising problems and issues of the great depression.

I believe this is because of the ways the Indians were living and hunting. Also with how the whites were not concerned with their customs and only had a one track mind on what they wanted of their land. The Great Depression was a strenuous and devastating time for the United States; with millions of Americans losing their jobs, homes, and money. The banking industry and stock market are to blame for their irresponsible practices. Fortunately, when President Roosevelt was inaugurated into presidency, he had one mission: to end the Great Depression. He created a series of programs called the New Deal. Although the New Deal was somewhat successful, numerous Americans responded negatively to the New Deal. They saw it as unlawful and waste of national fund. As soon as Franklin Roosevelt came to power, he was quick to react to the countries needs. The text states, “Swift legislation regulated the stock market and the banking system, improved the agricultural economy, and introduced a social security program” (“Great Depression”). Franklin Roosevelt was swift in recognizing the problems facing the country and attempted to solve the issues. His legislation focused on securing the economy and beginning to built back up the trust between the government and the American people. It was successful, to an extent. People did begin to trust the government again but economic decline would not stop immediately. There were signs of progress; From 1933 to 1938 the economy experienced growth. Unemployment fell and national income increased (Jeffries). This statistic shows that New Deal reforms had some positive impact on the economy. They also succeeded in restoring confidence to the average person which was extremely important at the time. This statistic does not, however, reflect that this growth was very small relative to the growth experienced during World War II. Imagine all of a sudden being out of a job and becoming bankrupt, and your country going into a depression. In 1929 until the late 1930's the Great Depression took place and many countries were affected by it, the Great Depression was an economic depression. The cause of the Great depression was the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. The Great Depression affected the US in a way that increased unemployment by 25% and increased the amount of homeless people. In this essay I will be analyzing the responses of President Franklin Roosevelt’s administration to the problems of the Great Depression. I will also be talking about how effective these responses were, and how they changed the role of the federal government. I believe that the responses to the Great Depression were very effective in bringing the country out of the Great Depression.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt tried the solve the problems if fear, chaos, hysteria, and decline of the American economy that came with the Great Depression. Roosevelt used relief, reform, and recovery to help the people. His plan was the “New Deal” which is seen as controversial. Although Roosevelt worked hard to improve the lives of American, there were still negative interactions between the different races and classes of the time.

In the middle of the deepest economic recession in the history of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt took office and did everything in his power to try and turn the country around. Roosevelt was a very intelligent man and the country believed he would lead them out of the Great Depression (Brinkley). Roosevelt inspired the nation to make drastic changes during the Great Depression with his extensive knowledge, understanding of the people's suffering, and new government reforms.

Roosevelt was a man who besides his intelligence, charm and strong confidence, he was able to sustain the nation through the most overbearing crisis know as the Great Depression as well as World War II. While managing to stay optimistic, Franklin Roosevelt helped people regain faith in themselves. Despite all the chaos going on at the time, “he was met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory (pg. 90).” He was praised for pushing the government to help those who were underprivileged. It was so chaotic and it came with numerous problems that people till this date seek ways to prevent similar events from happening. People at the time came up with different ways to stop a crisis, like the Great Depression, from happening, but this is not as easy as it seems.
